Here is an educated guess that I came across while browsing the net for some trailer clues:
So many questions…who is the narrator? Other than being voiced by Todd Stashwick, we don’t know if it’s a new main character, or a new villain, seeking revenge on Drake for betraying him perhaps?
As for the setting – Uncharted ’4′ (since there is no number in the title or subtitle yet) looks like it will use the legendary pirate utopia of Libertatia. Here are the clues from the trailer:
- The pirate map motif
- The map pans until it eventually reaches Madagascar, where there is marking on the island called I. St Mary, or Île Sainte-Marie. This island was the rumoured site of Libertatia.
- The map also has the phrase ‘for God and Liberty’, which also happens to be one of the mottos of said pirate utopia.
That’s my guess for now but all the clues seem to add up.
From the Wikipedia posting on I. St Mary (the circled place on the map):
Ile Sainte-Marie, or St. Mary's Island as it is known in English, became a popular base for pirates throughout the 17th and 18th centuries due to several reasons: it was not far from the maritime routes along which ships returning from the East Indies sailed in transit, their holds overflowing with wealth, it was provided with bays and inlets protected from storms and finally, it had abundant fruit and was situated in quiet waters. Legendary pirates like William Kidd, Robert Culliford, Olivier Levasseur, Henry Every, Abraham Samuel and Thomas Tew, lived in the île aux Forbans, an island located in the bay of Sainte Marie's main town, Ambodifotatra. Many of them would found a family line. Numerous vestiges of this history remain at Sainte Marie. For example, several authentic pirate vessels still lie within a few meters of the surface in the Baie des Forbans. One of these has been tentatively identified as Captain Condent's ship, the Fiery Dragon.
The utopian pirate republic of Libertalia was also rumored to exist in this area, although the republic's existence, let alone its location, has never been proven.Last edited by Swarley; 11-15-2013, 02:49 AM.Comment

Wasn't expecting to see it tonight. Naughty Dog usually does their reveals during the VGAs. Also the thought of UC with the system is awesome. UC looked great on PS3. Just think of what it'll look like next
