Are you saying the govt will get backdoor access to the dead persons gmail account and find the email address, and then "request" (via their back door) IP information from Google etc, ISP to arrest this perpetrator?

I don't think these are master criminals. If I were to be up to such shenanigans, I would pay cash for a burner phone at a store wearing a coat and a baseball cap and then only use it in a high crime area to communicate with the person I planned to rob and ditch it in a trash can as soon as the crime was committed.

The police wouldn't be looking for tower logs from the phone company or IP addresses from an ISP over a theft of this nature but if you kill somebody, you can bet there is a detective actively looking for your ass. The idiot above was probably holding the cell phone he used for the meet in his pocket when the police kicked in his front door

If they want to meet in some parking lot somewhere, I size them up via a phone call first and decide if that is an option. There is almost always a loaded 45 that is cocked and locked on my person just in case. Unfortunately the victim was too trusting of his fellow man.

I wouldn't tell anybody no but if somebody sounds fishy on the phone, they are either not serious about the transaction or sizing me up as a potential mark. If you tell somebody to meet you in the lobby of a bank and they say they are just looking right now, then you have to wonder...

Actually never watched a single episode but I have seen enough investigation shows to know where idiots make mistakes.

Plus working for the phone company, I know I am walking around with an always on GPS. The police aren't tracking it for small stuff but shoot somebody and see how much they will have on you within a few hours
