    OOTP 14: Quick Summary

I have to say that as much as I enjoy going deep into statistics for baseball, basketball and football. I have always preferred the gameplay and graphics you get from playing one of these sports game on a console instead of simulating it on a PC. Out of the park baseball changes that a bit when it stops being a game and becomes an addiction. Once you start it is very difficult to stop. Before you know it 3 hours have passed and you are still trying to figure out if you should bring up that international player you picked up a few seasons back or if you just stick with the veteran that you know will not give you big rewards but at the end of the day is very consistent.

OOTP 14 proved to be just as consistent. We knew what we were getting from the beginning of the release, the best in-depth baseball management simulation.

You can be the general manager and take care of finances, scouting, drafting. You can do all this by simulating weeks, months or years at a time or you can manage each game day by day watching each pitch and making decisions as the game goes by. This game will make you feel just like a real general manager. Especially when you go to bed at night and you can’t sleep because you are still feeling stressed about some bad decisions you made during the baseball season. Which is not real of course. I knew that…

Another great feature to this game is the community. There are many mods that allow you to play the game with updated player pictures and rosters. Making the experience even more realistic. Also, if you have any questions either the fans or the OOTP Development staff usually answers them very quickly.

    Some great new features:
    • Completely Recoded Player Origin System
    • New Fielding Ratings Developments System
    • Scouting System has been improved
    • Trading has been tweaked
    • Improved interface
    • Improved simulation play-by-play commentary
    • More storylines
    • And many more

    Any Negatives:

Of course it would be great if graphics evolved for the better but this is a simulation text based game. This game is very deep and changing that would make many of us not like it as much as we do. For someone new to the series it will take a while to get used to all of the nuances of the game. If your not a big fan of baseball or OOTP you may not want to invest the time in learning and playing the game. Just know that it will be worth it.

    In conclusion:

I have had a ball playing this game. It is a deep customizable baseball simulation. The management aspect is great and the replay value is amazing. You will not stop playing it till the new version of the game comes out.

Really... like any game, I just hope they bring something new to freshen up the next version OOTP 15. I am sure they have something up their sleeves.

I heard somewhere that there would be 3D stadiums and player models in 15. Not sure how this affects a text based game though.

That will be an optional mode, so you still can opt for the text-based version.

Yes, 3D stadiums will be optional, as will the 3D players we hope to add next year.

We've announced the new features in OOTP 15 and just released some new screenshots. In addition, if you pre-order before 2/15, you save $5 and get a shot at winning some cool prizes, including a 64GB iPad Air (or a Surface 2 tablet) or an Amazon gift card.

            All the info is here:

              Teams will retire uniform numbers?

The smallest things really change it.

OOTP is amazing. It's the only baseball gaming I really need.

The OOTP forums are pretty active as well. I am actually going to start a new career using stats only and turn off the ratings. Some guys over there play that way and say it is an absolute blast! Much more challenging and a more realistic rate of prospect/FA busts since you don't see the decline coming.

Good to see you pop in Brad!

I love OOTP. The other night I spent 2 hours just debating and analyzing a trade.

I ended up trading a first round pick, 2nd round and 10th round for a first baseman. It was intense!

Its so easy to spend an hour or 2 going through everything before even simming to the next day.

'15 has been pre-ordered since day one. Can't wait.

Oh, don't tell my wife but..

I have a gaming PC that I just built and a 27" iMac, but tonight I bought a laptop on Ebay JUST for OOTP so I can play while watching the Tigers and play in bed.

Worth it, that's how I watch baseball.

That's the real nice thing about OOTP, you can play on a lower-end laptop with no issues.

Thanks, guys. If anyone has any questions, just LMK. Always happy to help. The VSN crew knows where to reach me by email too.

BTW, if VSN wants an interview with Markus about OOTP, I could get questions answered.
