NHL 10 - Early features

Found this blog entry/article with David Littman giving details about some of the things in NHL10.

First-person fighting, intimidation and tough guys take center ice as ESPN Video Games' Jon Robinson breaks down the five things you need to know about "NHL 10."

Looks like they are doing a lot with fighting and hitting, and after whistle stuff. You can face wash guys now, and hitting actually means a lot more to the game this year.

KG you are going to be happy. If you start hammering the hell out of some guy, he is going to start to bobble the puck and the tape to tape pass looks to be on the way out of NHL hockey games.

All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

    "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

The idea is spectacular. If this works it will go a long into turning the EASHL in particular into a much better game. LOVE IT.

I hope though that there is no visible sign of this energy thing in terms of a bar on the screen, because that would just be corny.

Yes that's a must for me too.

Best next gen sports game imo regardless and looks to be getting better.

Yeah I would like them to improve the board game as well. You watch the penguins game last night and you seem them always working it down low along the boards. I'd like to be able to do that.

I was thinking what would be great is a button that allows you to shot the puck anywhere you want by using the joystick. Like say you are the defencemen and you want to fire the puck down low, or even just shoot it down low, you can't do that because it will always go on net. You can kind of do it with the flip puck button, but I'd like something a little better.

That is a video blog by one of the developers. They are fixing a lot of the exploits as well. Curve shot is gone...betting goalie 5-hole on wrap around is gone...

In the video it also says that one guy spent the entire year working on new goalie animations and fixing the goalie problem. So this looks to be a huge update from last year.

And as I said before, and it is said in this video, passing has been changed. It was so arcade like before, but now I guess they have done something with it to make it less like it.

Yeah I don't think The Show '09 will have anything on this game. I'm not going to down play their accomplishments, but I think a sport like hockey, if you can make it almost real, and so sim like, well it will always beat every other sport that is stop and go.

Now I just need to buy a new TV, because there is no way I can play on the injustice that is the TV I am playing on now.

                  god damn.....

this could very well challenge The Show next year.

the only area IMO where NHL was better than The Show this year was with it's online play.

graphics/presenation/modes/realism The Show kicks NHL's ass in 09.

but these additions are awesome...just awesome! oh man....

i anticipate a goalie on the cover this year

I really am finding myself sexually attracted to a video game. Don't think I'll bother going to university, I'll just become an NHL player.

it's funny cause these minor details have me more excited for NHL.....than all the shit combined for Madden so far.....

i was just about to sell NHL 09.....but I think I may just keep it to keep my skills fresh for release day

i'm gonna buy mounds of lotto tickets so I can hopefully retire in time for this game.

I think they should put Loungo on the cover, or maybe someone like Kane or Toews. Most likely though they will throw Ovey or Crosby on, but it would be nice to see someone like the three above.

And I am so happy about my career choice now. I'll be up for release day and be playing all day without a problem.

                        Game normally drops in September.

And I think this will be better then the show. Graphics are one thing, but would you rather have the game play or the graphics? Granted I don't know much about the show's gameplay, but as I said, you can't compare hockey to baseball IMO gameplay wise. Way to different.

i wasn't making a comparison between the two....rather than how close both come to the real thing.

while NHL 09 is a ton of fun, there's plenty of realism inaccuracies all over the gameplay, while in The Show there aren't all that many.

I'd probably guarentee it won't be Ovie as he was just on the cover in 07. Maybe they'll do a two player thing like Madden did this year?

I'd assume two players from the Cup finals if they go that route

(Not 2 player covers, the gap just shows who is more likley)

                            Sidney Crosby
                            Evgeni Malkin

                            Pavel Datsyuk
                            Zedeno Chara

                            Roberto Luongo
                            Steve Mason

I have a feeling it might be Chara due to the intimidation focus of this years game, however I hope Sid the Kid gets it.
                            Steve Mason wtf? :p

Good point about Chara, especially a contender for the cover if he wins the Norris Trophy.
