Getting Ready

I started counting off the days till that Friday, our season opener. Tuesday went by quickly, Wednesday was slow and it was our hardest practice conditioning wise, but Thursday was no pads. As we had a little break during practice, I kneeled down beside Brad.

"You nervous for tomorrow?"

"Hell no man. I expect to win by at least 30. We're miles better than them."

"Yeah I know dude. You think we can make some noise this year?"

"Definitely. Those seniors last year put no heart or effort into the game, yet Coach still rolled with them. The league is down and we are experienced and talented. Plus we've been working our asses off all year."

"Yeah, no doubt."

"So how's things with the new chick, Melyssa?"

"Damn, the whole school knows huh?"

"Haha, pretty much. She's a ten."

"I know dude, I know. Things are good."

"Good. You know Dan has been talking to her right?"

"Let him talk, she won't leave me."

"Yeah."

Practice ended a little bit after and the night went by quick. When I woke up the next morning, I had a text from an anonymous number.

"Good luck tonight Ethan. Someone will be there watching."

I didn't have the number in my phone but I figured it was Coach Rodriguez. Eventually I got ready and drove off to school.

After first period, I decided to go to Sheetz to grab something for breakfast. When I made it outside, I saw paint covering the windows of my truck.

Breann has been one of my best friends since the seventh grade. It started out as a crush, but it didn't work out and instead I found someone that I could tell anything to and someone that was always there for me. Since she didn't have a class now, I decided to call her after I got in the truck.

"Yeah thanks alot. So I'm guessing you're the cheerleader that was assigned to me?"

"I will. Besides, I would think she'd rather have the best athlete in the class rather than the class drunk, haha."

"Haha, that is true. What was I thinking? Well I gotta go, good luck tonight! I'll be cheering you on."

The rest of the day went by fast and soon enough, I was on the bus on it's way to Glendale. We went through our pre-game stretches and stuff, and then came back into the lockerroom to get fully dressed. Before putting on my shoulde I was getting focused by listening to some Nelly when Coach walked in and told us circle around him.

"I am number one - no matter if you like it, here take it sit down and write it..."

"Fellas, we've been through a lot the last few years. Defeated seasons, injuries, and critism from the community..."

"...I am number one - hey now let me ask you man..."

"...but this year is different. We have the talent to compete and the attitude of champions. We just need to put all the ingredients together..."

"...what does it take to be number one? Two is not a winner and three nobody remembers..."

"...and if we do that, we'll be successful. Now does anyone else want to speak up?"

"...what does it take to be number one?"

I took my headphones out and walked to the center of the circle.

"First of all, I'm tired of losing - real tired of it. I told the Bedford Gazette that I have three goals for this team. One, District 5 title, two, ICC championship, and three, 10-0 regular season. Now there is no way in hell that we can't accomplish those goals! We have the talent, we have way better fucking leadership than last year, and most importantly we have the heart. I don't want anyone giving up on any single play! I want to see the same swagger I carry onto the field in all of you guys! We aren't just going to beat teams, we're going to fucking destroy them! Now, who are we?"

"EVERETT!"

"I said, who the fuck are we?"

"EVERETT!"

"And what time is it?"

"Game time!"

"Win on three! One, two, three!"

I voted Michigan. Main reason is, one of my boys on this site is on a mission trip right now and he has a TCU dynasty going on. Which reminds me that I have to bump it sometime today.

Sort of. Some of the storyline is true, stats are inflated, and there's no way anyone around here would get recruited by Michigan to play football. Too small of a school.

This was a mismatch from the beginning. The first drive lasted three plays and then Brad hit me on a fade for the first of many touchdowns of the year. We continued our steamroll when Zach took a pitch to the outside and ran 65 yards to paydirt. I would catch another fade over an unathletic corner for a touchdown and then late in the third quarter, I caught a slant, broke a tackle and high-stepped my way into the endzone. The question is: is Glendale that bad or are we just that good?

The reporters shouted out more questions, but I told them I had to go change. Eventually I got showered and dressed and started carrying my bag to the car when I was stopped my a mysterious man...

Fictional regular season games for now. 10 game regular season, but I'm only going into detail about a few games. I already have the playoffs played out but I'm still deciding on where I want to go. We'll see.
