Catching Controversy | The Legend of Ethan Woy

Two Letters
The mysterious man was in a dark blue polo with the same colored hat. He had a long gold necklace with the number 23 on it.
"Ethan Woy?"
"Yes?"
"Finally, I get to meet the number one target on our recruiting board. Just call me CP."
"What school are you associated with CP?"
"Michigan. Now about that money that Rich Rod is sending you..."
"Damn, am I in some deep shit for that?"
"No, no. It's just not his money."
"Who's is it then?"
"Mine. Coming out of my own pocket. Coach Rodriguez has me as his main booster. He says he'll pay me back if you do come to Ann Arbor."
"I see, I see. So what did you think about my performance?"
"Honestly, that team you played there was shit."
"You have that right."
"Anyways, you did alright, but I'm not into the hype as much as Coach is. Prove yourself against better teams and then I'll start to respect you."
"Oh I will, don't worry."
"Let's get down to business. I'm here to give you some more money. Wait...no one knows that you're receiving money, right? You and me could be in a big heap of shit if someone found out."
I thought about when I told Melyssa, but I wasn't telling this guy that.
"No, it's on the down low."
"Good. Now anyways, we're uping the dollar amount."
"Continue talking."
"We were giving you 500 every two weeks, but now we're raising it to 750 every week."
"Damn, that's great."
"You bet it is...for you. And it'll be sweet for me if you do follow my orders and commit to Michigan."
"They are definitely the favorites right now."
"Good."
"But, what if I get a better offer?"
"How the hell will you get a better offer? We're paying you cash! Now listen here, you better be committing to Michigan otherwise I don't see many touchdowns in your future."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Whatever you think it means kid. Now take the money and get out of here. I'll be in touch soon."
As he jumped into his new 2009 Chevy Impala and drove off, I stood there wondering: Who is this CP? Is it really his money? And what does he mean by 'you won't be scoring many touchdowns if you don't come to Michigan?' This whole recruiting process is spinning my head around and it got more confusing as the days passed on. I was confused trying to process what all CP said when my phone started to ring.
"great game babe. hurry up so we can celebrate ;-)"
Fuck processing, Melyssa awaits.Last edited by Woy; 07-20-2009, 07:46 PM.

And that will probably be the last update of the night. I finally have a day off work, and I have some plans with a lady friend, if the weather holds up.
If I don't post again tonight, I'll be back tomorrow for an update before work 3-11 EST.
EDIT: I'll be on for a little while longer, the thing doesn't start till 7, so I don't have to get ready yet.Last edited by Woy; 07-17-2009, 03:47 PM.

Putting Everett On The Map
Everett Warriors (1-0) at Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils (1-0)
Woy's Word
Bellwood came out fast with a touchdown on their first drive - just like I expected from one of PIAA state semifinalists last year. Eventually they jumped out to a 20-7 lead with five minutes left in the game. Our running game helped us out tremendously, as my best friend John Atherton took a handoff, broke a tackle, and eventually carried a defender into the endzone.
I thought to myself, "damnit, if we're losing this game, we're going down fighting."
Bellwood then surprisingly went three and out, and we got the ball back at our own 37 yard line with three and a half minutes to go. Swindell started picking apart the Blue Devils defense left and right, while I was commanding a double team every play. With two minutes left, I saw that I had single coverage on me, and montioned to Brad for him to look my way. Here's the call, if you're interested.
"Swindell's in the gun. Two minutes left in what has been a fantasic game. Here's the snap, he drops back. Looks left, pump fakes...sees Woy in single coverage on the right! He lets it go...and it's complete! Woy to the five...touchdown Warriors! They have came back to tie this game with 1:45 left in the game!"
Cory kicked the extra point and then we held their desperation heaves towards the endzone, and pulled off a shocking upset. It's pretty safe to say that Everett football is back on the map.
Everett 21
Bellwood-Antis 20
5 catches, 67 yards, 1 TD
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After giving Coach a Gatorade bath, I was approached by three scouts.
"Ethan, Jay Paterno of Penn State. Great game out there. We're ready to offer you a full-ride scholarship to play for the Nittany Lions next year. How does that sound?"
Beaver Stadium. 110,000 screaming fans all wearing white. Joe Paterno. I've bled navy blue and white all my life and now I have the opportunity to play for them.
"Thanks for the offer, I will definitely have it in consideration."
"Mr. Woy! Harold Young, scout from West Virginia. Son, you have a lot of athletic ability and could do wonders in our offense. What do you say?"
Another big-time school offering me. I've never been a fan of WVU, but I could definitely see myself playing there.
"Ethan. Ed Williams from Syracuse University. You have a lot of potential kid and I could see you resurrecting our program. We might not fare so well this year, but with you on our team, we're a Big East contender."
Syracuse has been on the losing end of a lot of games lately, but playing in the Carrier Dome would be sick. I could be a first-year starter and put up incredible numbers. So many offers, so little time.
"That bitch better not sign with any of those schools..."Last edited by Woy; 07-20-2009, 07:46 PM.

National Recognition Is Always Good
"Hello, I'm Mike Hall, and welcome to ESPNU Recruiting Insider. On this show, we preview the next stars of college football from their beginnings - the high school days. Last week we spoke about All-American quarterback Matt Barkley and receiver Reuben Randle. Barkley is a USC commit, where if Mark Sanchez declares for the NFL Draft after this season, could be a contender for the starting job right away. Randle has SEC powers LSU, Alabama, and Florida as his top schools. Today we are going to switch gears a little bit and talk about a player who plays for a small school but is quickly flying up recruiting boards."
(shows highlight of a tall, lanky receiver dominating defenses)
"Ethan Woy, wide receiver from Everett High School in Pennsylvania, has put on a show for the local fans the last year. Although the team stumbled to a 2-8 record, he caught 53 passes for 1032 yards and 13 touchdowns, and was named Honorable Mention All-State. He's gotten off to a hot start this year, and with 16 catches, 303 yards, and five touchdowns, he believes he's just getting started."
(shows tape of Woy being interviewed by Fox Sports Pittsburgh)
"We've had a great start to the season, especially defeated state semifinalist Bellwood last week. But we've only equaled our win total from last year. I have much higher goals both for this team, and myself. I want to make first-team All-State, play in the Big 33 game, and I want this team to make a State run. There is no doubt in my mind that the team and I can accomplish all those goals."
"Confident young man, huh? He just pointed out that his Everett Warriors defeated state semifinalist Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils last week, and boy was it a game to watch. With five minutes left in the game, the Warriors were down by 13 when senior tailback John Atherton took the handoff from fellow senior Brad Swindell and rumbled into the endzone. The Warrior defense held the next drive and with two minutes left in the ball game, Woy made the play to give his team the upset."
(plays radio feed from the Bellwood-Antis game)
"Swindell's in the gun. Two minutes left in what has been a fantasic game. Here's the snap, he drops back. Looks left, pump fakes...sees Woy in single coverage on the right! He lets it go...and it's complete! Woy to the five...touchdown Warriors! They have came back to tie this game with 1:45 left in the game!"
"Despite having only five catches and that touchdown, scouts were very impressed with the way he came through in the clutch and scholarship after scholarship was offered to him. Rivals.com had Woy as a three-star prospect, but after last Friday night's performance, he was bumped up to a four-star prospect, and the number seven receiver on the board. Speaking of Rivals, let's look at his page."
(Rivals page shown on the screen)
"He's a tall receiver at six foot three but at 175 pounds, he could put on some weight to dominate at the next level. He's fairly quick with a 4.51 forty yard dash, shown at the Penn State Senior Camp over the summer. His hands have been graded as some of the best in the class of 2009, and he plays basketball, so he can definitely get off the ground. With all his strengths though, there come weaknesses. First off, he plays against lower level competition. The Everett Warriors are a District 5-A team, which could possibly be the weakest district in the state of Pennsylvania. What would he be like if he played in the WPIAL against powers like Jeanette and Pittsburgh Central Catholic?"
(highlight of Woy running downfield routes)
"The next weakness in his game is his route running ability. In Everett's offense, there aren't many complex route combinations, which means that Woy usually either runs downfield to catch a lob or he runs a slant-type route. What if he can't run a post corner or a 15 yard comeback?"
(highlight of Woy yelling at an official)
"Finally, the last weakness in this young man is his attitude - the one thing that coaches hate to hear. He was suspended for the season finale last year for fighting with a teammate, and likes to talk trash out on the field. Some Everett fans say he's selfish, but his teammates say he's a hard worker and team player."
(picture of Woy shows up on the screen)
"So the big question is this. Will Woy be catching either touchdowns or controversy at a college near you? We'll take a commerical break and be back with an interview by Florida back Trent Richardson."Last edited by Woy; 07-20-2009, 07:48 PM.

Good stuff
For some reason, I'm pretty sure you'll like the next three updates.
