Pack your bags Everett, we're heading to Philadelphia. Despite being a lower seed that last Friday's opponent Scottsdale Academy, Clairton was ranked higher in the Patriot Poll - the PIAA version of the BCS. We started off slow and were down by 17, but then our offense exploded in the second half.

Brad threw a bomb to me and I caught it in stride for an early 57 yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 10. Then a three-and-out by the Bears led into another long drive in which junior sensation Zach Millin took the handoff up the middle, broke the safety's ankles, and dashed into the endzone. Cory picked off a pass the following drive, and then Brad hit me on another touchdown pass to give us the lead for good. When the clock struck zero, the fans started pouring from the bleachers as we started celebrating our Cinderella-like run to the State Championship.

Keeping My Mouth Shut

The town went into chaos when they heard we'd be playing in the State championship. Fans were running through the streets celebrating, while others threw useless furniture of theirs in their backyard and set it on fire. The arrests and fines were handed out, and by Monday when everyone went back to school, the town calmed down.

Right away I could tell this would be the easiest week of school in my life. My teachers were showing movies and giving out passes, so no one would end up getting on the ineligible list. I got a pass out of first period with Brett, Brock, Brad, and Clinton and went to a local restaurant called Kelly's for breakfast.

"Yeah, can I get a number three combo with a chocolate muffin?"

"Damn Ethan, you're going to balloon in college if you continue to eat like you do."

"Haha, I need to gain some weight anyways. I'm too skinny to play in college right now."

"Made a decision yet on where you're going? I'm deciding between a few MAC schools."

"I got to gain at least 60 pounds to have a chance at defensive end at a college, haha."

"Yeah I think I'm going with Michigan."

"Really? Why's that?"

"Just like the campus up there and I licking my lips at the opportunity to turn that program around."

I went outside to buy the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to see if there's any talk about next Saturday night's championship. I put the paper on the table and went right to the sports page.

JEREMIAH YOUNG CALLS OUT ETHAN WOY AND EVERETT

"Who has Everett played this year? A bunch of chumps, that's who. Beating Clairton by 24? We beat them at their home field by 45! They played in the weakest district in the state, and probably the weakest conference, and now they've gotten lucky to get here. We've been ranked number one in the Patriot Poll all year and I'm definitely not letting this Cinderella team beat us. We're going to be ready to show the state of Pennsylvania who really is the best team."

"Strong words, wonder what he has to say about me."

"And to Ethan Woy, you are a good player, but you're extremely overrated still. Number two receiver in the nation? You have to be paying Rivals to move you up the board! Our corners are all-WPIAL and they'll definitely shut you down. You aren't ready to go against our defense. I don't see number 15 taunting the Steel-High faithful Saturday night. Be ready for a long night and bring some tissues cause you'll be crying when we're holding that State championship trophy."

"I wonder what Ethan's comeback is going to be?"

"Nothing."

"What?!"

"Yeah. I'm keeping my mouth shut on this one. For once, I want my play to do the talking."

"You smoke something lately?"

"No, no. I'm just really focused for this game and can't let trashtalk distract me."

"Haha, nah."

"Is this a sign of maturity from Ethan?"

"Yeah, maybe a little sign. Oh look, here comes our food."

For the oddest reason, I didn't want to cause any controversy. I wanted to just shut my mouth, play my game, and prove the critics wrong.
