I'm trying hard to finish this update, but right now no creative juices are flowing whatsoever. It's really frustrating.
That being said, if it isn't up soon, just look for it tomorrow. Maybe I can think straight then.

Dreams Slipping Away
"And here's the kickoff...we are under way in the 2008 PIAA single A State title game. Millin catches it at the 15, runs to the right side and is tackled at the 32. Nice field position for the undefeated District 5 champion Everett Warriors on their opening drive."
I jogged onto the field for our opening drive. Brad huddled us up and called the first play of the night.
"Ace base, 38 Houston on one. Ready? Break!"
The corner facing me was stacked. He looked more like a power runningback than a cornerback. He didn't say anything and I couldn't tell where he was looking with his dark visor.
"RED, SET, ONE!"
I was a step into my route when...
*BOOM*
I was decked with a forearm, which completely threw me off my route. Brad started to panic and threw up a prayer to Brock.
"INTERCEPTED BY STEELTON!"
Brad was obviously shaken up a little after that interception and as the defense trotted onto the field, Coach whispered something to him. Jeremiah completely took over on their first drive, carrying three defenders every play en route to a touchdown.
"500 Seattle on two. Break!"
We got into our four-wide gun package as Brad called the cadence.
"GREEN, SET, ONE! TWO!"
I broke into a slant route while being jammed by the corner. I had a step on him and threw my hand up to get Brad's attention. Brad saw me and threw it...behind me.
"INTERCEPTION STEELTON!"
I dove and tackled him by his shoestrings. He got up without saying a word and just stared at me the whole way towards his sidelines. Jeremiah went off again and punched it into the endzone to make it a two touchdown lead after the first quarter. It was early, but Brad was already throwing away the game for us.
Our defense started to hold a little, with Jeremiah scoring only once as Brad threw two more picks in the first half. We finally got on the board late in the second quarter with a John Atherton touchdown run. The bell sounded and it was Steelton Highspire 21, Everett 7.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Gentlemen, we are very fortunate to be down only 14. We have played awful! You guys look like you're scared out there! Brad, cut down on the interceptions please. Read the defense, go through your progressions, and hit the open man. Defense, way to step up in that second quarter. Sure, Young hurt us with another touchdown, but for the most part we held. These guys are good, yes. We need to shut them out on defense and get the offense going right away! Brad, can I trust you here?"
Brad looked completely out of it and was staring into space.
"Wha...oh, yes sir."
"I better. I sure as hell don't want to sub you out for a sophomore in the State title game. The halftime is extended tonight, so just wait it out for a little bit."
I made my way over to Brad and sat down beside him.
"What's wrong bro?"
"I don't know man, I just don't have it tonight."
"Well you better get it soon, I don't want to lose this game."
"Me either. I just need to stop thinking so much. I'm trying to be the hero, and that isn't showing real well on the scoreboard."
"Listen, I know how that is. I've always wanted to be the hero, the superstar, the one and only. Right now, we need you to be a part of this team. The team. I don't care how many catches I get tonight as long as we win this game. No one is the hero or the goat here; we're either all heroes, or we're all goats. Just go out, play your game, and everything will fall into place."
"Gotcha man, I'm good now. Let's get this done."Last edited by Woy; 07-29-2009, 01:22 PM.
