Liked the last update a lot. I think Troy is right.
Like I said, Troy's just a hater. ;)

Oh shit, you're on your second season and I haven't even started State Playoffs yet!? (I'll have to get to that soon, Season 1 Finale is coming up soon)
But nice shit Woy! Can't wait for Mr. Woy and Mr. Flynn to kill the competition
...what, you can't expect to turn around their football team in one season, lol ;)
- Good stuff Ethan
I want to get my entire career played out by the time I leave for college. Because I probably won't have a 360 out there for a while (hence why my Army dynasty hasn't got going) so that way I have all the stats and such and just have to write the storylines.
A few days after the awards banquet, I was over at Melyssa's. She was telling me about her plans for the day.
"Hey I got some plans with Brittany and Krista tonight. Is that cool?"
"Oh definitely hun. Guys night out then, haha."
"Just don't find another woman."
"I won't babe."
I kissed her on the cheek and went out the door. Then I picked up my phone and started dialing. Soon enough it was myself, Brad, Cory, Clinton, Brett, Brock, John and J-Mac packed into two vehicles on our way to Altoona, about half an hour away. Why couldn't there be a Hooters near Everett?
"So why did we drive the whole way to Altoona again just to go to Hooters?"
"Calm down, you're getting a free meal. Plus the girls here...way better than the ones at Everett."
"You plan on your using looks to get a free meal out of one of these waitresses? Haha, good luck with that."
"What is this...bromance time between all of us?"
"You know what? Fuck all of you, haha."
"You know we're just playing bro. How do you have all this money though?"
"Work...and some early graduation money. Brett, Brock - you guys decide on colleges yet?"
"Yeah, we're going to Shippensburg."
"Really? I just got accepted there!"
"Nice John, you should definitely go there."
"Probably will. Maybe I'll be able to walk onto their football team."
"I really want to walk onto Penn State dude."
"J-Mac, if you put on a good 40 pounds, I bet you could."
"That would be pretty badass."
As our waitress made her way to our table, ESPN was broadcasting a breaking news update.
"Breaking news out of Syracuse..."
"Oh shit, what did you do now Ethan?"
"Nothing, shut up. I gotta to hear this."
"...we'll take you live to a press conference by head football coach Doug Marrone."
"Over the last few weeks, we, Syracuse have been finding out some things about our football team..."
All that went through my mind was, 'please don't mention the money. Please tell me that they didn't find out about it.'
"...and I heard that a certain athlete was interested in playing again. After being turned down by Michigan, and looking over our quarterback situation, it was obvious that we should take a chance on this athlete. So I'd like to announce that former Duke point guard, Greg Paulus, will be joining the football team this fall."
I literally spit my drink all over the table when I heard that.
"What the hell!?"
"Haha, Ethan's got to catch passes from a Dukie."
"The Carolina fan and the flopper from Durham. Sounds like a match made in heaven to me."
"Now you can't bash Duke anymore Ethan, haha."
"Is he even eligible to play?"
"Shhh, listen."
"He's going to be given every opportunity to win the job. In fall camp it will be an open competition between Paulus and last year's starter Andrew Robinson. We all remember that Greg was a Parade All-American at quarterback years ago, so hopefully he retained some of those skills."
"Well at least he was good, back then. Brad, any chance you can change your committment?"
"Nah bro, I'm staying at Buffalo. Coach Gill said I have the starting job sophomore year if I improve enough."
"How is he able to play, you ask? Well turns out, since he's going to be a grad student at Syracuse, it's like he's a fifth year senior - so basically he already played three years and was redshirted one. According to the NCAA, you have four years of playing eligiblity in one sport. That's the reason why he can't play basketball at Syracuse."
"Good. Don't need him ruining both of my sports during my freshman year."
"But he is eligible to play any other sport he wants. After losing to Villanova in the NCAA tournament, he got a workout with the Green Bay Packers. That opened his mind into playing football again, and after talks broke down with Michigan, we immediately jumped at the chance. He's got a great skill-set for our spread offense and hopefully him or Robinson can get it to talented recruit Ethan Woy this fall..."
"Damn, I don't want to catch passes from him."
"Well on the bright side man, they did mention you."
The waitress overheard our conversation as I realized we still haven't ordered our food yet.
"Wait, you're the Ethan Woy? The one heading to Syracuse?"
"Yes, I am. Haha, do you want an autograph?"
"I wouldn't mind that. Oh shit, be right back boys. I forgot a pen."
As she walked back to get a pen, John spoke up.
"Damn, bitch is fine. Ethan, chase that now."
"I'm with Melyssa. I'm good."
"What happens if you break up at college? This would be a wasted opportunity then."
"We're fine dude, don't worry."
"Sorry about that. Here's a piece of paper for you to sign."
"Yeah, can I borrow your pen?"
"Sure."
I looked down at the paper to see that there was always something written down.
Britt 814-555-6105 Text me sometime. ;-)
Momentarily confused for a second, I ripped that part off and stuck it in my pocket as I finished up the autograph.
"Thanks Ethan, it really means a lot. Now, what can I get you guys to eat?"
"I know dad. Seems like the first 18 years of my life went by so fast."
It was the one day parents always dreaded, but yet were excited for; graduation day. I was getting my gown and cords on while we were talking. For the first time since my mom left him, I saw tears in my father's eyes. He was struggling for words and just slipped out a little 'I love you' to me. I wondered if I would be just as emotional when my very own son was graduating high school.
Eventually I got into my truck and drove off to the high school. The stands were already packed, and we didn't even start the ceremony for another three hours. I parked in my parking spot for the last time and walked inside.
"Ethan!"
"What's up John?"
"Dude, I can't believe today's the day."
"I know bro, I'm excited and nervous at the same time."
"Same here, and a little sad too."
"Yeah, definitely not going to be the same not seeing you guys every day."
"Tell me about it. You gotta come down to Ship sometime and party with us."
"Oh no doubt, I definitely will. I plan on getting you guys some tickets to some Syracuse games in the Carrier Dome."
"Nice. Now, how are the girls in New York?"
"Nicer than the ones here. But Melyssa's coming with me, so I'm not interested in them."
I got up from my chair and headed towards the front of the stage to receive my diploma. Flashbulbs started going off as I made my way across the stage. Closing my eyes, flashbacks started appearing in my thoughts...
"Listen Ethan. What do you did was wrong; you could have held your anger in. Plus the Bedford Gazette caught the entire fight. What am I going to say to them? That I can't control my team? Bullshit. You're suspended for the finale."
...
Transfer your bitch ass out of Everett. You're nothing special and we'd be much better without you.
...
"You're selfish Woy! Get out of here!"
...
"Woy is so overrated. All-State? Yeah right, he won't touch the ball with me covering him."
...
"And to Ethan Woy, you are a good player, but you're extremely overrated still. Number two receiver in the nation? You have to be paying Rivals to move you up the board! Our corners are all-WPIAL and they'll definitely shut you down. You aren't ready to go against our defense. I don't see number 15 taunting the Steel-High faithful Saturday night. Be ready for a long night and bring some tissues, cause you'll be crying when we're holding that State championship trophy."
I opened my eyes to see the entire crowd standing up, clapping. I felt embrrassed, but yet finally, truly happy. I've been through the lowest of lows, and now after a long climb, I am finally loved by the community again. It's going to be tough adjusting to a new life-style in a few months, but I know one thing - I'm glad I didn't decide to transfer out of Everett and instead stuck it out.
After we threw our caps and marched out as alumni of Everett High School, I was getting a drink in the gym when I was hugged from behind.
"Guess who?"
"The love of my life."
"You're too sweet. Umm...I got some news."
"Shit, you didn't get in at Syracuse? I can always check to see if there are schools nearby..."
"No, no. It's not that silly."
"Oh, good. What is it then?"
"I don't know if you'll be happy or disgusted..."
"Tell me babe."
"Okay...you remember a few weeks ago at your banquet in Harrisburg?"
"Yes?"
"Well, when we were having sex, I completely forgot to take something..."
"You mean?"
"Yeah. I'm pregnant..."
Shocked, I was stumbling for words when I took some time to process my thoughts.
"Oh my God. I'm really sorry, I don't know what to say. I..."
"Ethan, don't be sorry. I'm actually kind of glad. Sure, raising a baby in college will be tough, but we both can do it. We're together in this."
"Where's the baby? I didn't have the time for a fucking child! I got an abortion and had to work two jobs just to pay off the damn thing! And it's not even completely paid off yet! Now I've lost both of my jobs because I got into very vicious arguments with customers from all the stress that has been put on me, and the last thing I need in my life is you. I've gotten a new boyfriend who actually will support me and be there for me for whatever."
The flashbacks of the situation with Rebecca flew through my mind, causing myself to get a little light-headed.
"You alright Ethan? It seems like something's wrong."
"Oh...we are keeping the baby. I can balance school, football, basketball, and our child."
A smile lit up on Melyssa's face as she hugged me.
"Thank you so much Ethan. I love you more than anything."
"I love you too Melyssa."
As I stood there holding her, thoughts were running through my mind. After the episode with Rebecca last summer, I made a promise to myself that I would never screw up another thing like that again. Now placed in a similar situation, but with the one girl I truly have loved, I decided that despite the stress, I'm not making the same mistake again - I'm ready to be a father. I don't know how to tell my parents, or how Melyssa will tell her parents, but one thing's for certain; my life has spun in a complete 180 again but we're going to get through this...together.
