I just have 1 question. Are you going to play the basketball games too, or are you making them up? That'd be interesting to see.

Playing them on NCAA Basketball 09. I created myself, put me on Syracuse, and simmed the first season while redshirting. However, the basketball updates aren't going to go in-depth, and there will probably just be like four games mentioned during an update.

Pre-Game Madness

For every nice pass Greg Paulus threw, the projected starter Andrew Robinson usually one-uped him. Camp was winding down and we were counting the days off till the opener against Minnesota. Starting positions were all but locked up and it looked like Greg would be settled into the backup quarterback slot, when...

"Fuck!"

I was talking to Delone on the sidelines when I heard Andrew scream. I looked over to see him on the ground, clutching his knee.

"Shit, this can't be good."

A few of the coaches and offensive linemen made their way over to the senior quarterback, who was obviously in tremendous pain. I couldn't tell what exactly they were saying, but after a few minutes, two of the offensive lineman picked the wounded senior up and carried him off the field. The diagnois didn't really shock me after practice.

"Fellas, this has been a great camp. You guys all look determined, focused, and ready to make a mark on the Big East this year. However, we did lose one of our own today. Andrew Robinson suffered a serious knee injury, probably a torn ACL, and will be done for the season. That hurts our offense a little bit, but I have no doubt that Greg can come in a perform as well or even better than Andrew. Now get out of here and get some rest. Yes, that means no parties tonight."

Collective groans could be heard throughout the team. Delone broke us down and we headed off the field, knowing tomorrow would be the first game of a new era in Syracuse football.

When I got home, I collapsed right on my bed and fell asleep. Hours later, I was awaken by a text from an unknown number.

"ill cut u some slack since its ur 1st game. 4-60"

Still trying to wake up and comprehend what that meant, I read the text several times before finally realizing it was Rodney. The four and the 60 must mean that he bet on me to at least have four catches for 60 yards tomorrow.

The next morning came extremely quick. We had our team breakfast, then headed to the Carrier Dome around 10. After some light pre-game stretches with no pads, we went into the lockerroom to change. I sat at my locker for a little while as most of the team started to get ready, then Delone made his way over to me.

"Yah nervous kid?"

"Eh, a little. Just hoping I can get off to a quick start, that's all."

"I hear ya. Usually when I start off fast, I'll continue to play like that."

"Yeah same here. Kinda hoping that Paulus doesn't blow it either."

"You have no faith in the guy, do you?"

"Nah, I do. I just think Andrew was a better fit for this offense and that Paulus's performance in camp might be a fluke."

"Haha, just do you. Don't worry about anyone else."

I just nodded and he made his way back to his locker.

Following a superstistion I've done since seventh grade, I started to put everything on. First left high sock, then the right one, followed by my girdle and the orange pants. Next, I put on the same Spiderman cut-off I've wore since freshman year, my shoulder pads and that dark blue Nike number 15 jersey that Melyssa would be wearing at the game as well. I slid on my orange half-sleeves, and gloves, and then finally put on my helmet shielded by a dark visor.

As I was finally dressed, Coach appeared from his office and the whole lockerroom got quiet. He had a real serious expression on his face as he moved to the center of the lockerroom.

"Huddle around me men."

Everyone then made their way over to Coach and then he started his speech.

"Gentlemen. Today starts a new era in Syracuse football. No more sub-.500 seasons! No more being the laughing stock of the Big East! None of it! If we perform the way we did at camp, there is no doubt in my mind that we can beat this Minnesota squad. They are good, I will give them that. I personally feel we have more talent though."

He started then to pace around the little area we made him, and as he called out players, he stared them right in the eye.

"Offensive linemen! I want you to block your asses off. At least one person gets pancaked, every play. Delone Carter! This is your senior year son. You've fought through adversity, injuries, and now it's your time. Hope you're hungry, cause we're feeding you the ball a lot today. Ethan Woy! Here's your first impression. First impressions always make a mark on people, and I sure as hell don't want the Syracuse faithful to think lowly of you after today. Make them Gopher defensive backs look silly out there. Greg Paulus! I gave you this chance. Don't screw it up."

Then the serious look on Coach Marrone's face started to crack with a smirk.

"Hey D!"

"Yo Coach?"

"Get your ass up here and break it down!"

"Haha, it's 'bout damn time."

Delone made his way to the middle of the huddle as Coach left.

"Coach was right, this is a new era. Let's start this era out right with a good 'ol asswhooping! Now...who we are!?"

"SU!"

"And what we do!?"

"Stomp on you!"

"I said, what we do!?"

"Stomp on you!"

"Break it down now! One, two, three..."

"SU! Will rock you!"

Author's Note: The whole putting a Spiderman cut-off under my jersey is really what I did before football games. Just wanted to throw a little realism in there.

OMG, you know what the next update is!? Ethan's first collegiate game! :D After 53 updates, we've finally gotten to this point. :tongue:
