I have a paper to write about Social Security tonight, so no update. I'm going home tomorrow and chances are I'll be drunk around this time, so there won't be an update then either.
Look for one sometime Saturday.

It's Better to Give, Than Receive
"Wake up, wake up, wake up!"
I slowly opened my eyes to see my brother smiling. He still had a wince of pain in his voice as he was balancing on his crutches, but that smile shined right through the discomfort.
"Settle down, I'm up. You want to see your gifts from Santa, huh?"
Evan laughed and rolled his eyes at my statement.
"Yeah, cause I definitely still believe in him."
"You did a few years ago, haha."
"When I was nine."
"You cried."
"Shut up."
I laughed and he punched me in the shoulder. Like I said, everything was going to be alright.
Eventually, I rolled out of bed and made my way downstairs. We had the Christmas tree lit up in the front room, with loads of presents under it. I started going through what was mine before my dad interrupted my searching with his voice.
"Curious of what you got, huh?"
"Haha, a little."
"Go ahead and open everything."
As soon as the last word left his mouth, Evan and I started ripping at our gifts. A few things like an authentic Chris Johnson jersey and some new Air Jordans were really nice, but I was even more excited to give my gift to Melyssa later tonight.
The family came over to the house for lunch later in the day and after spending some time with them, I drove over to Melyssa's to go with her to her grandparents' house for more gifts and dinner. After all the festivities and with a lot of the Washington family gone or about to leave, I found myself alone with Melyssa in her room - away from the world.
"So did you have a good Christmas babe?"
"Yeah I did sweetheart. I absolutely love the necklace you got me."
"And I'm loving this new guitar. My old one was shit anyways."
"Well I know you too well, haha."
I reached into my back pocket, making sure I still had the last gift for her. Then I looked at her smiling face and decided this was the time.
"I have one more gift for you."
"Oh really? Well let me see it."
"Alright, hand me my guitar."
"You wrote me a song?"
"We'll see."
I've never seen a smile get so big until I saw her's as he handed me the guitar. Tuning it to get the right pitch, I looked at her and took the pick to the first string.
"Because when everything goes wrong, and the world's all gloomy and gray,
One look from you changes all that and is the highlight of my day.
You say I'm amazing and unlike any guy,
But you haven't seen amazing till you've seen the sun rise in your own eyes.
That's how beautiful they are, I can't say it enough,
Why didn't I fall for you earlier?
Why were the other relationships so tough?
There are so many words that fit you, but they aren't getting a mention,
Because there's only one word that can describe you fully; perfection."
You can tell that she was amazed and interrupted me at the end of the verse to tell me.
"Wow, that's incredible. Did you write that yourself?"
I just nodded my head yes and continued to play.
"I look back at previous girls I've been with, none to show and tell,
Some girls are tens, but I think you've surpassed the scale.
And I'm not just talking about outer beauty; I'm talking about inner too,
Your personality, your smarts; all have got me attracted to you.
There's no way this is possible, this has to be a trap,
Heaven's finest must have fell right onto my lap.
The halo above your head completes the masterpiece,
Be my guardian angel; that one girl that completes me."
As soon as I finished the song she went to give me a hug, but I reached into my pocket to pull out the gift. Dropping to one knee and opening the box, I stumbled through my words as she started to cry. It was obvious what was coming next.
"Melyssa, will you marry me?"
Tears in her eyes, she shook her head yes and gave me a huge hug. I might have bought her an expensive ring, but in the end we both got the best gift you could ever ask for - the gift of knowing you'll have someone there with you for your entire life. We both had our soulmate.Last edited by Woy; 12-31-2009, 01:50 AM.

3-One time thing or does he have a permanent thing on the side?

Back to Work
With my goal for the break accomplished, I spent a few more days at home with the family before heading back to Syracuse, taking my girl with me. Everyone close to me was either surprised or happy, especially my friends.
"I didn't think I'd ever see the day that Ethan Woy was engaged."
"Seems just like yesterday you were dating three different girls in junior high."
"Haha, shut it. I know I've found the one here."
"Yeah I think you have too, haha. It's just funny how you've grown up so fast."
"Hey, just because I'm engaged doesn't mean I've grown up. I'm still that guy that will eat your cake when you're not looking, haha. I still pull tricks...I'm just serious about one thing - my relationship."
"I can tell. Congrats."
And that's usually how the conversations went. People were surprised about how quickly we tied the knot and how "mature" I've become in such a short period of time, but that's what a girl can do to you.
Once arriving back at the Cuse, I just kicked back and relaxed for the rest of the day, knowing that I would have to get back into game mode in just a few weeks.
...
"Well look who is finally here...wassup cuz?"
"Haha, you know we'd be 12-0 if I was here for the entire season."
"You don't make that much of a difference kid. You haven't been here for many practices as it is."
"I'm just playing anyways. I'm just looking for some PT Friday night."
"You perform the next few days and you'll probably get it. We need a guard off the bench anyways. Rautins is playing with a midly sprained ankle right now."
"Get the hell out the locker room and onto the court!"
Coach Boeheim yelled in to tell us to hurry up and he didn't seem in a good mood. The team lost a few days ago to end the non-conference schedule and at 9-3, we had a big test to open up Big East play at Cincinnati, another 9-3 squad.
Conditioning was not my favorite thing to start practice with, but I guess it was Coach's. I could tell I wasn't in amazing shape and was in the middle of the pack during suicides. However, once we started to scrimmage, I started to impress the coaching staff with my skill set.
I was matched up against Rautins on the wing and went to work. Knowing his ankle was weak, I faked a move to the left and drove baseline; throwing it down to the roar of the walk-ons sitting on the bench. Calling a press after the basket, I jumped in for a double-team and stole the ball, and banked it off the glass. Boeheim was furious with the first squad and called them over to get in their faces. Once they went back onto the court, the second team's coach subbed me out and pointed me in the direction of Boeheim, who had a grin on his face.
"Yeah Coach?"
"I didn't know you'd be game-ready so soon, damn."
"Well Rautins does have a sprained ankle."
"Eh, I think he's just milking it a little to get out of some practice time. Anyways, I'm just letting you know that you will get some time against Cincinnati. Not garbage time, but actual time. Make the most of it, young man."
I didn't know how much time he meant by that, but one thing's for sure: Cincinnati better be ready.Last edited by Woy; 10-12-2009, 09:41 PM.
