A little more tact may have been called for...hell, for all you know, she has some of the same contacts Rodney had...

The Sure Thing
Exhaustion. It was barely noon and it felt like I've played West Virginia three times already. I laid in bed wondering how I didn't see the connection between the two earlier, but eventually decided to stop thinking about it altogether. The more I had it in my mind, the more it would piss me off.
I was just about asleep again when Wiz Khalifa started spitting bars to me. I reached over my shoulder and saw the only name I wanted to see on my caller I.D. right now, so I decided to sit up and answer it.
"Hey Mel, how've you been?"
"Better now that I get to hear your voice," she replied on the other line. I felt the exact same way; yeah corny, I know.
"How's Sean Joseph?" I asked. I now knew how my mother felt when I left her for an extended period of time when my parents were in the divorce process. Not seeing my son in so long has really been eating me alive.
"Actually that's what I wanted to talk about," she said. With the way this day has gone already, I expected the worst. But she shocked me and also reminded me of a promise I made before I left for the Sun Bowl. "Any chance you're free tomorrow?"
"Well I have basketball practice," I answered, trying to make it seem like I was too busy; sarcastically, of course. "But I think I might be available that night."
"Okay!" she said with a pep in her voice. "I'll bring Sean Joseph over then tomorrow night."
"You mean you're not going to stay?"
"Of course I am. I haven't seen my man in a while, so why wouldn't I stay?"
That comment really got me to smile as I started digging through my night stand drawer. When I found what I wanted, I placed it back in the drawer and closed it up for now.
"That's what I wanted to hear. Well hey, I'm going to take a nap; I kind of had a rough morning."
"Alright," she answered. "Is it anything you need to talk about?"
No chance I tell her. "Nah, I'll be good I think."
"Okay, well I'll let you go. See you tomorrow!"
"Bye Mel."
...
*KNOCK KNOCK*
Looking out the peephole, I saw a beautiful brunette and an 11-month carbon copy of my own flesh standing outside. I excitedly opened the door but was confused for a moment when she shouted...
"Merry Christmas!"
But then I remembered about how she wanted to make this like the first Christmas our "family" spent together...even though in reality it was just a day before my 20th birthday.
"Thanks babe," I answered, kissing her on the forehead. "How's my baby boy?"
"He missed you very much," she replied while waving his little hand. "Shall we make ourselves at home?"
"Yeah, come in. I'm making dinner right now."
She raised her eyebrows at that news. "Making dinner? I thought I'd never see the day."
"Yeah, a special dinner for a special night...and a special girl."
She playfully punched my arm and laughed. "Well at the corniness is still there."
I thankfully didn't fuck up dinner as my chicken parmesan was cooked to near perfection. From there, Mel and I spent some time playing with Sean Joseph before it was time for him to get some sleep. After tucking him in, we both walked back down into the living room and took a seat on the couch.
"So did you enjoy your Christmas with us?" Melyssa asked, turning off the TV.
"Sorry I couldn't get a tree this year," I joked. "But yes, I loved it."
"That's what I wanted to hear," she replied. "Hey, can I tell you something?"
Oh, here it comes...more bad news.
"Sure. But before you do, I need to get something."
I decided that right now was the best time to give her my present. I walked into my bedroom and pulled out the object from the drawer and put it in my back pocket. When I got back to the living room, Mel was curled up on the couch with a blanket, smiling and awaiting what I was about to give her.
"You didn't have to give me anything for Christmas," she unselfishly said. "I was fine just spending time with you."
"Oh, who's corny now?" I laughed. She both smiled at each other for a moment, then I decided that it was time. "Anyways, a lot has been running through my mind lately...mainly about us in general."
"Same here."
"Anyways, I found something of yours and I wanted to give it back to you."
I think she knew what was coming next but it didn't matter. I dropped to one knee and mouthed those same four words I said on Christmas day as a high school senior. She couldn't control her emotions and just nodded her head yes.
A long embracing hug followed and then she looked right into my eyes. "That's exactly what I was thinking about...about getting back together."
"Best Christmas gift ever?"
"Yeah. You're sure about this, right?"
"I've never been more sure of anything in my life."

Fuck weddings.
Moving right along, what happened to Britt was unnecessary.
Granted, Woy needs to stop tryna settle down with bitches, but she has nothing to do with Rodney's craziness and that, of course, is gonna bite him in the ass later.Comment

Okay, I'm pretty sure I'll have the update later today. Won't be a great one, but it doesn't need to be.
I'll going to really try for an update every day this week, because next week is my spring break and in addition to not being on VSN that much, I'm going to take a break from updating and refresh. Once I get back though, I'll try my hardest to get done with junior year by the end of March and we'll see what happens from there.
Just a heads up.

What If?
Last year when I joined the basketball team mid-season, we were sitting at the edge of the Top 25. We proceeded to lose our next two games and never got back on a long winning streak.
What a difference a year makes.
Second in the Big East behind Pittsburgh, we were ranked tenth in the nation going into my first game of the season against Rutgers. Coming off the bench, I had a solid six points in a 89-76 win. Unlike last year where I was looked upon to do a lot of the scoring with Jonny Flynn, we had a nice group of players - senior Wes Johnson, sophomore Brandon Triche, junior Scoop Jardine - that were carrying this ball club. I sat back and enjoyed my role as my teammates were getting the glory.
Eventually I jumped into the sixth man role again - Boeheim told me that I would have been moved into the starting lineup, but he didn't want to disrupt the chemistry we had - and we continued to roll. Falling only once (to Connecticut in a game we shot only 28%) before rivalry week, we came into our two-game series against Georgetown ranked fifth in the nation and first in the Big East.
Keeping true to a promise I made last year, I went out of my way to destroy Georgetown as we beat them by double-digits in both contests. The Hoyas weren't slouches either, being fourth in the Big East and 13th in the country. I scored 21 points in DC while dropping 23 on our home floor, earning myself a second Big East Player of the Week award.
We continued destroying our competition and ended up only losing one more game before the Big East tournament. Unlike last year when we fell to Rutgers, we finished the job by defeating Pittsburgh by two as Wes hit a running jumper with three seconds remaining. Guaranteed a number one seed, we were picked by many to be raising the trophy in Houston that April.
And then it happened.
In our first round match-up against Morehead State, we were up by 15 nearing the end of the first half when Wes went up for a rebound. He got tangled up with their big man and came down awkwardly. Instantly grabbing his knee, we all huddled together and feared the worst. The news came back from the doctors after our win and it was learned that he blew out his knee; obviously ending his tournament.
We still kept on trucking, defeating eight seed Oklahoma and crushing four seed Duke to advance to the Elite Eight. Unfortunately, we ran into a dominant Texas team who was getting hot at the right time. A 15-point loss sent us home after a great season, but one that also had the campus asking "what if Wes didn't get hurt." Texas ended up getting to the championship game but there they fell to Michigan State.
With sports out of the way until fall practice, I spent all the time I could with my fiance and son when I wasn't lifting or attending meetings for football. Life was going really well and it would get even better when I found out about...Last edited by Woy; 02-28-2010, 08:24 PM.
