Pretty much. I took too long with basketball in freshman year because it doesn't hold an important role in the story.

Also I'd like to thank all my followers that post and those that are silent. 40,000 views is a huge accomplishment; means I must be doing something right. :D

          Our Song

          "Are you serious?"

I was holding a flier and saw Melyssa walking up towards me. "What's that babe?"

Turning it over, I put on a huge smile while she rolled her eyes. "Only you."

"Come on babe," I said. "You know how much I love Taylor Swift." She raised her eyebrows at that comment, but I assured her that her place was safe. "But not as much as you, of course."

"That's what I thought," she answered. "So I should tell Troy to watch Sean Joseph that night, huh?"

I was surprised that she wanted to go too, but hey, I didn't mind. "I didn't know you were a fan of her."

"You never asked," she replied, winking.

          ...

"Can I ask you a favor?"

"Sure, what is it that you need?"

"Well my boyfriend is a huge fan of Taylor Swift and would love nothing more than to meet her. Any chance you can hook him up with a back-stage pass for after the concert?"

"As long as he brings in the wins for our football team next season, I'll do anything for that man."

          ...

Mel and I got spots really close to the stage and ended up having a blast. The Carrier Dome was completely full and was almost as loud as it would be at a basketball game. When Taylor finished her last song, I was just about ready to leave, when Melyssa put something around my neck.

"Back-stage pass!?" I shouted out with joy. "You mean?"

"Yeah," she answered and kissed me on the cheek. "Happy birthday!"

I gave her a kiss back, took her hand and made our way through the crowd to meet the country-singing goddess.

          ...

"Wow," I nervously said. "I'm really meeting Taylor Swift." Step by step, the closer I got, the more my heart was pounding. I didn't want to make a fool out of myself and I hoped to ask her something if she'd be up to it.

"Looks like you have some visitors,"
one of the bodyguards told Taylor.

"Hey!" she said, greeting Mel and I with hugs. I was never going to wash this shirt again.

          "I'm Melyssa...huge fan of yours."

"It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Swift,"
I replied. "I'm Ethan. You were absolutely incredible out there tonight."

"Awh thanks," she answered, blushing a little. "And you can call me Taylor, haha."

"Sorry," I laughed. "I'm probably more nervous now than I've been in any football or basketball game."

Her eyes lit up a little bit when I mentioned sports. "Oh, so you're that Ethan. Receiver, right?"

"You a closet Syracuse fan?" I asked with a wink. "Or do you just like All-American wide receivers?"

Mel punched me in the arm, knowing I was flirting with her a little bit. Hey, can't I have a little fun? This is once-in-a-lifetime shit.

"Anyways, I was wondering if you were busy sometime in July. Mel and I need a singer for our wedding."

"You two are getting married? Congrats!"

"Thanks! I'm not sure what you have going on tour-wise but it would be great if you could do this for us."

She thought about it for a minute, then grinned from ear to ear. "Of course I would!"

"Thank you so much," Mel said. "It really means a lot."

          "Yeah it does," I added.

"Could we possibly get your number so we can let you know all the details and stuff sometime?"

"Yeah, of course. Just don't be spreading it around campus, haha."

          "I'll make sure he doesn't,"
Mel replied, rolling her eyes at me. They both laughed and made me feel like a little bit of an ass.

"Here," she said handing me her phone. "Don't you be scrolling through the contacts to find other celeb numbers in there."

"Damn, you caught me," I sheepishly replied. "Here's mine."

"Okay, well I better get going; have another show tomorrow. It was great meeting you guys!"

          "You too Taylor, keep safe."

          ...

Once we walked out of the dome, I gave Mel one of the biggest kisses I've ever given her.

"So you're satisfied?" she asked with a huge smile.

          "Best birthday gift ever,"
I replied. "You do know she wants me, right?"

She just laughed and shook her head as I grabbed her hand and walked her to the car.

                      The Past and the Future

"An All-American wide receiver and All-Conference basketball player, the greatest athlete in Everett history...please give a warm welcome to class of 2009 graduate, Ethan Woy!"

It was great to be back home. After last year's mayhem with Rodney showing up unexpectedly at my jersey retiring ceremony, the school decided to hold off and wait till I came back home to try it again. However, I didn't get a chance to during football or basketball season, so they just had an assembly for the public and students on a Friday in May to honor me. Have you seen 2,500 people try to pack into a gym with the capacity of 1,000? It's funny shit.

Greeted with a standing ovation, I smiled and walked to the podium. I didn't try to go overboard with the speech - considering I was doing it impromptu - and received another ovation as we all watched my basketball and football jerseys raised to the rafters. A lot of parents and kids congratulated me and I signed a few autographs afterward, and as I was walking towards the door to exit, I was tapped on the shoulder.

"Who do you guys play today?" I asked my brother. He, like the rest of the baseball team, was in his uniform already, awaiting the arrival of the bus to take them to their game.

"North Star," he replied. "It's the District 5 championship."

                      "Nice, where at?"

"Bedford. Are you going to come?"

"Wouldn't miss it for the world."

                      ...

"North Star holds a 3-2 lead with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Morral occupies first base and the Cougars' senior closer Brian Francis is on the mound ready to face junior Evan Woy."

At this point, Evan's had a solid game, hitting a double and making a nice diving catch in centerfield. However, none of that would be remembered unless he came through here.

                      "Francis winds up...here's the pitch!"

As soon as he let it go, flashbacks of my high school days ran through my mind. The buzzer-beater to win my first varsity game as a sophomore, the touchdown to beat Tussey, the passing touchdown to beat Conemaugh Township in the District 5 championship, and the touchdown to beat Steelton-Highspire in the State championship; I closed my eyes and reminisced on those moments for a few seconds when I was awoken by a...

                      *PING*

The ball was sent high to left field. At first it didn't look like it would make it to the fence, but the wind kept carrying and carrying it. Their left fielder jumped and at first I thought he got it, sending the North Star faithful into a frenzy while leaving the Everett side stunned.

However, he fell to his knees and put his head into his lap, revealing the ball on the other side of the fence. Instantly the tides were completely turned as the Everett dugout poured out onto the field and Evan threw his helmet into the air while rounding second base.

"Clutch end-of-the-game performances must run in the family folks! What a shot by Evan Woy and a win by Everett!"

From the other side of the fence, I watched as their coach was doused with Gatorade and everyone having the biggest smiles on their faces. After taking the team photo, those smiles never left as the kids went to find their family and friends. Evan was receiving a bunch of pats on the back and after a few minutes, he finally made it to Dad and I.

"Great game son. I'm extremely proud of you," my father said, patting him on the back.

"Thanks dad," he replied, swinging his head at me after saying that for some praise and encouraging words.

"Eh, I guess you didn't do bad," I sarcastically said, shrugging my shoulders. He punched my shoulder and I faked an injury, causing us both to laugh. "Nah, but seriously, you did great. Remember how I used to make fun of you for not hitting any homeruns in Little League?"

                      "Yeah?"

"Well now you have one more than me in high school, haha."

He laughed and shook his head as we walked back to the car. Like I said...it was great to be home.

                                Summer Work

The summer sun was high above me, beads of sweat dropping down from my forehead as I looked at the ground. I got into my stance, turned my head to see an old friend and awaited the cadence.

                                "RED, SET, ONE!"

Coming out of the break cleanly, I got 10 yards downfield and made a sharp 45 degree cut to the inside. The quarterback threw it a little out in front of me but I turned on the jets and shot my right hand out to bring the pass down.

I made a move up-field then jogged back to where Brad was standing. "You're really trying to make me work today, huh?"

"Sorry bro," he laughed. "It must have slipped."

"Well you can't get away with that shit in the Big East,"
I shot back. "But I guess you can in the MAC."

We both laughed as he motioned me out to run another route. I ran a twenty-yard corner route and Brad threw it perfect this time, as I caught it over my shoulder in stride. This time I tossed it back to him and shouted, "Now that's a Big East throw!"

"That's why I made the All-MAC team, brah."

                                "Please,"
I scoffed as I jogged back to the line. "When you're named an All-American, then you can talk."

"Just wait next season," he promised. "I'll be on that precious All-American team right along with your name."

                                "Maybe on the second team,"
I replied. "Ryan's gonna do work this year."

                                "Is Ryan considering the draft?"
                                he asked.

"Not sure," I answered. "We haven't really discussed it much."

"Oh alright, I was just wondering. Who's that walking down here?"

Brad pointed towards the stadium's ticket gates where we saw a heavy-set man walking. Scout? Reporter? This was supposed to be a private workout. But as he got closer and closer, it was easier to recognize who it was; Coach Waltman.

"Brad! Ethan!" he shouted from about 25 yards away. "Is that you guys?"

                                "Yeah it is Coach,"
Brad shouted back. "Just getting some off-season work in."

                                "How have you two been?"
he asked as he approached where we were standing. "Sounds like you both had great years."

"I've been pretty good," I replied. "How's the team looking like next year?"

He shrugged and looked a little disappointed. "Besides your brother, I don't know if we'll have a good team...definitely not one on the same level as years past, that's for sure."

"Sucks to hear that Coach," Brad said. "Maybe we have another year of eligibility still."

He laughed and patted us both on our backs. "Believe me, if I could coach you guys just one more time...I'd do it in a heartbeat. You and the rest of the senior gang were the hardest working group I've ever come across."

His first sentence really intrigued me and reminded me of my talk with Coach Marrone during the season. "Say Coach, if a certain position would open up with the team, would you consider leaving here?"

                                "Syracuse?"
he asked as I nodded my head yes. "Yeah, possibly. I think Angelo can do a fine job as the head coach here. Why?"

"Well," I started to explain. "Our offensive coordinator is looking to make a name for himself and some FCS teams have called about his services. I doubt he leaves this year, but maybe next year? Anyways, Coach Marrone wanted to know if I had anyone in mind if he did decide to leave and your name instantly came to mind."

"Oh wow," he said, obviously surprised. "If that job is open at the end of the season, throw my name into the discussion and we'll see what happens."

                                "Sounds good,"
                                I replied.

"Is the weight room open now?" Brad asked, trying to jump back into the conversation.

"I can open it for you guys," Coach Waltman answered. "Just walk up with me."
