Playoff Picture Becoming Clearer As Season Draws To An End
So, the NBA season is slowly winding down and the playoff picture is getting a bit more clear as we have only a few more weeks left to play. Which brings us to the question plaguing many Pacers fans. Who will the Pacers meet in the 1st round of the playoffs?
Here is what the Eastern Conference playoff picture looks like as of right now:
1. Magic 47-27 0.0 GB
2. Heat 47-28 .5 GB
3. Pacers 46-30 2.0 GB
4. Celtics 43-30 3.5 GB
5. Hawks 43-32 4.5 GB
6. Cavaliers 40-35 7.5 GB
7. Sixers 39-36 8.5 GB
8. Wizards 35-40 12.5 GB
9. Pistons 35-41 13 GB
As of right now, the Pacers seem to be on a collison course with Lebron James and the Cavaliers. The 2nd seed Cavaliers eliminated the 8th seed Pacers a season ago in the Eastern Conference Finals. With injuries to Delonte West and Vladimir Dasic this week, the Pacers could dodge the Cavs by the skin of their teeth if the Sixers can manage to pull into the 6th spot in the East.
The Pacers knocked out the Sixers in the 2nd round of last year's playoffs and have shown they clearly hold the advantage over them for the past 2 seasons.
The chances of the Pacers pulling ahead of Miami for the #2 seed seems slim considering the 1 and a half game advantage the Heat hold over the Pacers.
However, the Celtics are right on the Pacers tails, only one and a half game behind and should the Celtics manage to pull ahead, the Pacers would see the Hawks in the 1st round. In the Pacers last meeting with the Hawks in Atlanta, the Pacers looked weak down low. Defintely a cause for concern.
What's also very interesting is the 1 game gap between the Celtics and Hawks. The Celtics managed to eliminate the Hawks in an exciting 7 game series on their way to a championship two years ago. The tables may be turned this time around if Atlanta manages to oust the Celtics for the #4 spot and take home court advantage.
The Pacers play the Celtics, Magic, and Cavaliers all 1 more time in their last 6 games and those games will go a long way to determining who the Pacers will meet in the 1st round of the 2010 NBA Playoffs.Last edited by mfbmike; 05-31-2009, 01:14 PM.Comment

Player Of The Game:

Quote Of The Game:
"Darren Collison hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer in the 3rd quarter that really got the home crowd going. They took that momentum into the 4th. Chris (Kaman) had a hell of a game though. Sometimes you have those games where it seems like you do everything right, but still fall short of the desired result." - Danny Granger
