Firings:
When Larry Brown was brought in to coach the Charlotte Bobcats, they expected to not only improve on last season's record of 32-50, but to also make a postseason appearance. The Bobcats are currently 29-46 and will not make the playoffs. Because of this, the Bobcats organization has decided to relieve Brown of his duties as Head Coach.
Injuries:
The Bobcats just informed the league office that Gerald Wallace has suffered a lower back strain. They put an estimated recovery time at 8 days.
Kevin Durant has suffered a broken toe injury and the 2008/2009 season is done for the sophomore forward. The Thunder are lottery pick bound and the surgery required to heal the broken toe would keep Durant out for 31 days. The regular season will be over in 12 days.
Tyson Chandler suffered a severe ankle sprain and the Hornets are expecting him to be out for 28 days. This is a very inopportune time for Tyson to go down with this injury as the Hornets are only half a game out of the 8th spot in the West. While this injury shouldn't be the scapegoat if the Hornets happen to miss the playoffs as they have made some questionable roster moves this season. At least the Hornets have Brad Miller to fill the void while Tyson nurses the ankle.

Playoff Picture Becoming Clearer As Season Draws To An End
So, the NBA season is slowly winding down and the playoff picture is getting a bit more clear as we have only a few more weeks left to play. Which brings us to the question plaguing many Pacers fans. Who will the Pacers meet in the 1st round of the playoffs? (Barring a 7 game losing streak of course.)
Here is what the Eastern Conference playoff picture looks like as of right now:
1. Cavaliers 47-28 0.0 GB
2. Heat 46-29 1.0 GB
3. Hawks 44-31 3.0 GB
4. Celtics 44-32 3.5 GB
5. Sixers 40-34 6.5 GB
6. Pistons 40-35 7.0 GB
7. Pacers 40-35 7.0 GB
8. Magic 39-35 7.5 GB
9. Wizards 37-40 11.0 GB
With losses to both the Pacers and Cavaliers over the past week, the Wizards would need miracles to land a playoff spot. Count them out.
The Pistons, who at the beginning of the season were the hottest team in the league, have since fallen from grace and have sunk in the standings fast. The Pacers have actually managed to tie the Pistons at 40-35. The Pistons currently hold a 2-1 season series lead over the Pacers and the two have one more matchup later next week. While the Pacers chances of seeing the Pistons in the 1st round are slim to none, it's important to note that the Pacers are actually tied for 2nd in the Central Division at this point alongside the Pistons.
If the Pacers fall to the 8th seed, a date with the Cleveland Cavaliers is as good as a sure thing at this point. Miami is without both Mario Chalmers and Dwyane Wade right now and we don't see them reclaiming that #1 spot, let alone holding on to that #2 spot.
Which brings up the ideal situation for the Pacers. If the Hawks can find a way to sneak into the #2 spot and the Pacers hold on to #7, the Pacers could matchup against the Hawks in the 1st round. This is ideal for the Pacers as they have had great success against the Hawks winning all 3 matchups so far this season. The two teams also play later in the week.
The Celtics also are in very good position to move up in the standings as well.
The Pacers odds to meet the Hawks and Heat in the 1st round are the highest at this point, which is what the Pacers fans should be hoping for as they stand their best chances of possibly advancing to the semi-finals against those teams. The Hawks thanks to the momentum the Pacers would carry into the postseason because of this season's matchups, and the Heat due to injuries plaguing their starting backcourt.
Running into the powerhouse Cavaliers or Celtics would more than likely equal a 1st round exit for our beloved Pacers.Comment

do yourself a favor and win the nba championship, so lebron and wade don't demoralize your team right out of the playoffs.
