    Oregon State (4-2) at #12 USC (4-2)

Los Angeles, CA - Who could have forgotten the shocking upset at Reser Stadium last year in Corvallis when a sea of orange rushed the field as the Beavers had beaten the #1 USC Trojans? Now the Men of Troy will finally get their rematch in the Coliseum where Oregon State has a long history of being unable to win. "I won't lie," said a very serious USC FS Taylor Mays. "We really want to beat these guys after the way we played up there last year. I have a lot of respect for Oregon State but all I'm gonna say is that we're taking care of business this week." Both Oregon State and USC come in with identical 4-2 records so the game has lost some of its importance nationally, but on the west coast, viewers prepared to watch another great game between the Beavers and the Trojans. Southern Cal would look to regain respect after losing an early game to Cal and just last week losing to still undefeated Notre Dame. Oregon State on the other hand was coming off of a bye after destroying Stanford and previously getting their biggest win of the season against Arizona State. A loss by either team would probably put them too far behind Oregon who has still yet to lose a conference game.

Unfortunately for the Trojans, they have been struck by injuries. USC is down to 3rd-string freshman QB Matt Barkley after both Aaron Corp and Mitch Mustain were lost for the season. Also, two stallions in their stable of running backs have been sidelined for a few weeks as USC would be without both HBs CJ Gable and Stafon Johnson. So it would be up to HBs Joe McKnight and Allen Bradford.

The Trojans opened their drive by completing one first down but the outstanding OSU defense was able get USC off the field as they were forced to punt. However, the opening possession for the Beavers did not go so well either as QB Lyle Moevao tried to connect with WR James Rodgers but USC CB Shareece Wright had position and made the interception. Taking advantage of the turnover, QB Matt Barkley was able to get USC into the red zone where HB Joe McKnight was able to slither across a small hole, diving across the goal line on a four-yard touchdown scamper to put Southern Cal on top 7-0.

USC HB Joe McKnight dives across the goal line on a four-yard touchdown scamper.

Now, Oregon State was forced to deal with an enthusiastic crowd as the noise level of the Coliseum jumped up considerably. Though Moevao was able to silence the crowd a bit when he connected with TE Howard Croom for a first down. Then Moevao threw deep to the sideline to Croom again who made a nice over the shoulder catch very close to the sideline but the play was ruled incomplete. But just as the Beavers were ready for their next play, the whistle blew as the play was under review. After a short delay it was determined that Croom was able to keep a foot in bounds and had possession so Oregon State was now inside the red zone.

OSU TE Howard Croom keeps one foot in bounds and makes a nice over the shoulder catch for a big gain.

A couple plays later, Moevao out of the gun faked the handoff to HB Jacquizz Rodgers and threw to an open Croom again who was able to score an 11-yard touchdown reception to tie the game 7-7.

OSU TE Howard Croom left open for an 11-yard touchdown reception.

On the ensuing possession for the Trojans, QB Matt Barkely would find himself under pressure by DE Kevin Frahm who caused the freshman to get rid of the ball too early as CB Tim Clark was there for an easy interception and then took off, diving into the end zone for a pick-six to give the Beavers a 14-7 lead just like that.

OSU CB Tim Clark with a pick-six.

To end an entertaining 1st quarter, Barkley would be sacked by DE Ben Terry on a possession where the Trojans lost ten yards and were forced to punt after a three-and-out. But the Beavers did not fare much better as Moevao was sacked on third down, leading to a punt. Barkley continued to struggle against one of the top defenses in not just the conference but in the nation as he threw another interception as OSU FS Suaesi Tuimaunei picked him off. However, OSU was limited to just a 27-yard field goal attempt which kicker Justin Kahut doinked off the upright. (Becoming the first victim of lowered FG accuracy sliders)

Finally, Barkley was able to show some flashes of brilliance, looking like the top QB prospect from last year as he led USC into the red zone but OSU DT Stephen Paea was able to apply pressure to force an errant pass on 3rd down. As a result, the Trojans settled for a 28-yard field goal to cut the OSU lead to 14-10 with 2:11 left in the 1st half.

Moevao countered back with an impressive two-minute drill. With :36 left to go, Moevao lofted up a deep pass toward the end zone to WR Darrell Catchings in single coverage. The ball just cleared the USC defender's outstretched hand as Catchings caught the ball over his shoulder in the back of the end zone for a 32-yard touchdown reception to give Oregon State a 21-10 lead at halftime.

OSU WR Darrell Catchings with a great catch in the end zone off of a fantastic pass by QB Lyle Moevao for a 32-yard touchdown reception.

Oregon State continued to move the ball well to start the 3rd quarter but a decent drive would stall, leading to a punt. The play before the drive ended, Moevao was hit in throwing motion and left the field but it proved to just be a scare as he was fine.

Pete Carroll as usual was able to make some adjustments at halftime and the Trojans' opening possession of the 3rd quarter was their best of the game. Suddenly, USC looked unstoppable as they moved the ball methodically. Finally, QB Matt Barkley would find FB Havili in the flat for a seven-yard touchdown connection to cap off a 15-play, 80-yard drive to make it 21-17 OSU.

On the ensuing kickoff, WR Reggie Dunn on the return was able to spin out of trouble and find nothing but green in front of him as he was able to race down the field, housing a 98-yard kick return for a touchdown as the Beavers were now up 28-17.

OSU WR Reggie Dunn spins out of trouble and returns it 98 yards for a touchdown.

The Trojans seemed to have regained the momentum until Dunn's 98-yard kick return so USC was back to square one to start the 4th quarter. It was starting to look like Oregon State might finally beat the Trojans in the Coliseum but then USC put another impressive scoring drive together as HB Allen Bradford, on a toss to the left, scored on a two-yard touchdown scamper . Carroll decided to for the two points but Bradford was stuffed so USC was down 28-23.

USC HB Allen Bradford with a two-yard touchdown scamper.

Then the Beavers would fail to move the ball at all, going three-and-out. However, on the punt, USC returner Ronald Johnson was lit up by OSU CB James Dockery, separating Johnson from the ball as it fell to the grass where Dockery was able to fall on it for the recovery. The Coliseum was silenced by the turnover as Oregon State now had terrific field position with a chance to likely put this game away.

OSU CB James Dockery forced a fumble on a punt return by USC WR Ronald Johnson which Dockery also recovers.

Not long after, Moevao on a playaction would throw a strike to WR James Rodgers just short of the goal line. Next, younger brother "Quizz" Rodgers fought across the goal line for a one-yard goal line touchdown run to put the Beavers up 35-23 with only 3:57 remaining in the game.

OSU HB Jacquizz Rodgers scores at the gaol line.

Time was running out for USC and to make matters worse, the Trojans were forced to punt after another three-and-out. Oregon State now had a chance to put the game away if they could just move the chains. But the Trojan defense stepped up and forced a three-and-out so USC was able to quickly get the ball back. Barkley engineered an impressive late 13-play drive and finished it off by hitting WR David Ausberry for a four-yard touchdown pass to make it 35-30 OSU with only :33 left in the game.

It would all come down to the onside kick but it was not to be for the Men of Troy as the Beavers recovered the football. After a couple of kneeldowns by Moevao, the Beavers celebrated a huge victory and finally won in the Coliseum. After the game a teary-eyed Mike Riley was available for comment. "This is a huge, huge victory for the Beavers," said Riley. "I think you have to be a fan, a player, or a member of this program to fully understand how important of a win this is for the Beavers. I'm really, really proud of those kids to go out there and beat an outstanding football team like the Trojans is just something really special. This is a great day to be a Beaver." Oregon State wins their first game at the Coliseum against the Trojans since 1960 and makes it back-to-back wins against USC.

      Week 8

      #8 Oklahoma (4-2) at Kansas (5-1)

Lawrence, KA - The Jayhawks' dreams of pulling off an upset over the Sooners died when OU HB Demarco Murray early in the 1st quarter got to the outside and broke loose for a 55-yard touchdown to give Oklahoma an early 7-0 lead.

Later, the outstanding OU QB Sam Bradford was under pressure and threw an interception but the Jayhawks could not take advantage of the opportunity. On the ensuing possession, Murray would leave the game with bruised ribs. To end the quarter, the Jayhawks would tack on a 33-yard field goal to keep them in the game, only down 7-3.

To start the 2nd quarter, the Sooners would be held inside the five-yard line and would settle for a 21-yard field goal to go ahead 10-3. On the Jayhawks' next possession, QB Todd Reesing would throw a laser to WR Kerry Meier who was able to slip by two OU defensive backs and take it to the house for a 49-yard touchdown to tie the game at...Oh wait...the PAT was no good so Kansas still found themselves down 10-9.

It would not take long for the Sooners to respond as Bradford led a nice drive down the field and found HB Chris Brown for a 13-yard touchdown over the middle to put Oklahoma ahead 17-9. The Sooners were not done there though as later Bradford, given an eternity in the pocket, launched one deep which WR Ryan Broyles came down with for a 52-yard touchdown, giving Oklahoma a 24-9 lead.

Kansas would get a last second 25-yard field goal to end the half to keep the Jayhawks in the game, only down 24-12. Considering how well Oklahoma had played, Kansas had to feel pretty fortunate.

Demarco Murray was back for Oklahoma to start the 2nd half. The Sooners were able to move the ball but had two consecutive drives end with a missed 35-yard field goal. However heavy pressure on KU QB Todd Reesing led him to throw while being hit, causing the ball to float in the air where OU MLB Ryan Reynolds intercepted it and took in for a pick-six to put the Sooners up 31-12.

Oklahoma would continue to pile it on as Bradford would find Murray in the flat who sped in for an 11-yard touchdown reception to put Oklahoma up 38-12. Kansas was just unable to convert 3rd downs as they had a miserable 2-for-15 3rd down conversion ratio. That would in the end be the difference as the Jayhawks were no match for the Sooners.

I don't think that will happen in real life. Injuries are killing them though in my dynasty.

Oregon State received a commitment from three-star pro-style QB Kyle Nicholson of Redwood City, California after the historic win over USC in the Coliseum this weekend. Nicholson is a prototypical pocket QB that Mike Riley covets. He has a pretty good arm with decent accuracy and an ability to elude the pass rush in the pocket. Look for Nicholson to compete with Justin Engstrom for the job of starting QB next season.

                  Game of the Week

                  #1 Texas (7-0) at #11 Oklahoma State (5-2)

Chris: We are here in Stillwater for another Big 12 game between the #1 team in the nation, Texas against #11 Oklahoma State. *crowd cheers* Well, Texas seems to be the only team left standing as the top ranked teams continue to fall. Though Wisconsin is still sitting there undefeated, going completely underneath radar. If the Longhorns were to lose today, then the Badgers could take over the top spot in the land. Texas seemed like a sure thing today until last week against Missouri, Colt McCoy suffered a PCL sprain. We'll have a report from Erin Andrews about what the diagnosis looks like for the Longhorn QB. But when we get back we'll go over some other huge games today....

                  Games of the Week

                  #14 North Carolina (5-2) at #3 Virginia Tech (6-1)
                  Kirk: VT Lee: VT

                  #5 Penn State (7-1) at #25 Northwestern (7-1)
                  Kirk: PSU Lee: PSU

                  #18 South Carolina (6-2) at #24 Tennessee (5-2)
                  Kirk: Tenn Lee: Tenn

                  #17 USC (4-3) at #8 Oregon (6-1)
                  Kirk: Oregon Lee: USC

Chris: That sure is an intriguing matchup that will take place in Eugene today. If USC loses, then the Trojans will fall to .500, and Oregon will still be undefeated in the conference. Okay. So we understand Erin Andrews has that injury report for Colt McCoy. Erin...

Erin: I sure do Chris and it does not look good for Longhorns. McCoy will be out at least two weeks with PCL sprain, which means QB Sherrod Harris will start today. Also, Texas will be without DE Sergio Kindle because of a bruised shoulder he suffered last week. And I've also got some bad news for the Cowboys as LT Russell Okung will miss another week as he is still dealing with a hip pointer so Zac Robinson will have to deal without his sensational left tackle another week. Guys, back to you...

Chris: Thanks Erin. That is too bad we won't be able to see some of the best players in all of college football. But most importantly, can Texas stay undefeated without Colt McCoy?

Kirk: Absoutely they can. The Longhorns may be without their leader today but Texas is still a more talented team. Especially on defense. I really look for the Longhorns' defense to be the difference today. Look for Texas to maybe struggle early on in the passing game but they should be able run all over the Pokes. Texas wins convincingly today. *crowd boos*

Lee: Come on now Kirk. It won't be that easy. Being without your top guys on both sides of the ball will hurt any football team. And if this is going to be a shootout between Zac Robinson and Sherrod Harris, I'm taking Robinson every time. Oklahoma State will keep it close today, much closer than the experts think, but...*Lee puts on the Longhorn headgear to a chorus of boos* Hook'em Horns! Go Longhorns!

                        UCLA (1-6) at #21 Oregon State (5-2)

Corvallis, OR - After the unbelievable win over USC at the Coliseum the Beavers have climbed into the top 25, ranked 21st in the nation. Their first test as a ranked team would be UCLA, who has only managed to win one game against Stanford. The Bruins were met with cold, rainy conditions at Reser Stadium.

UCLA was unable to get a first down on their opening possession, punting after a three-and-out. However, Oregon State would have their opening possession cut short when QB Lyle Moevao unwisely threw over the middle where UCLA CB Lowell Rose picked him off. Taking advantage of terrific field position, QB Kevin Craft found WR Taylor Embree for a 12-yard touchdown connection to put the Bruins on top 7-0 early on.

UCLA WR Taylor Embree with a 12-yard touchdown reception.

But the Beavers were on the move as the 2nd quarter got underway. Where Moevao faked the handoff to HB Jacquizz Rodgers, and threw into the flat to TE John Reese while under pressure from two defenders. Moevao was able to get the ball out just in time. Reese was all alone and raced in for a 25-yard touchdown to tie the game up 7-7.

OSU QB Lyle Moevao gets the ball out in time to TE John Reese for a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Reser Stadium could now breathe a bit easier as fans were getting nervous that UCLA pulled out in front early on. Then the Bruins tried a little trickeration with the "wildcat" but it ended in disaster as OSU MLB David Pa'aluhi came up with the interception. Though Oregon State could only settle for a 41-yard field goal to take the lead 10-7.

UCLA would be forced to punt on the ensuing possession but James Rodgers unwisely decided to field the ball inside his own five-yard line, and was stopped at the five-yard line. Then the Beavers did something even more questionable as Moevao threw a screen to James Rodgers in the end zone where he was tackled for a safety. Reser Stadium let the players know of their disapproval of the playcall as UCLA was now only down 10-9 and would get the ball.

However, after a sack on 3rd down, UCLA punted after a three-and-out. After a three-and-out by Oregon State and then another punt from UCLA, it was Beaver ball with 1:43 left in the half, at their own 20-yard line. Moevao was able to lead OSU to midfield but then threw to what he thought was a sure touchdown to TE Howard Croom. Unfortunately, all-american CB Alterraun Verner broke off of his coverage and easily made the pick, and took it all the way back to the house for a pick-six, regaining the lead for the Bruins 16-10.

UCLA CB Alterraun Verner with a pick-six.

Moevao was able to shake off his mistake and get the Beavers into field goal position when he connected with WR Darrell Catchings for a 40-yard gain, setting up a 42-yard field goal attempt for Justin Kahut, but it was kicked wide right to end the half.

It looked like UCLA was ripe for an upset to start the 2nd half but Moevao would throw over the top to WR Darrell Catchings for a 40-yard touchdown to regain the lead for OSU 17-16. Though UCLA was doing a great job containing "Quizz" in the running game, the Bruins were not giving their corners a lot help in coverage. It was only a matter of time before Moevao would connect for some big passes as UCLA was bringing the heat all game long.

OSU WR Darrell Catchings with a 40-yard touchdown reception.

UCLA was unable to counter back as DE Kevin Frahm brought down Craft for a sack to force another three-and-out. However, the Beavers would have a decent drive ended prematurely when Moevao tried to hit "Quizz" over the middle but MLB Reggie Carter made a spectacular one-handed catch to intercept the football.

UCLA MLB Reggie Carter with a spectacular one-handed interception.

But again, the Bruins went three-and-out. To start the 4th quarter, OSU was able to get back into the red zone, but were held to a 21-yard field goal to go up 20-16. Later, after another UCLA three-and-out, "Quizz" started moving the chains with some tough running. Moevao would cap off the drive by hitting a wide open WR James Rodgers, running a slant in the end zone for a five-yard touchdown to put the Beavers ahead 27-16 with only 1:45 remaining in the the game.

OSU WR James Rodgers all alone for a five-yard touchdown reception.

Kevin Craft tried some last minute heroics but an interception by OSU FS Tuamaunei in the end zone sealed this one shut.

                          Week 9

                          #1 Texas (7-0) at #11 Oklahoma State (5-2)

                          Cowboys End Longhorns' Perfect Season

OSU WR Dez Bryant with four touchdown receptions and 209 yards receiving.

Stillwater, OK - Last year it was Michael Crabtree that ended the Longhorns' perfect season. This year it was Dez Bryant which Texas had no answer for. It may have been a bad predicament for the the Horns when their opening possession ended with a field goal attempt that went wide right. Not long after, OSU WR Dez Bryant broke press coverage which QB Zac Robinson quickly noticed and hit him in stride for a 40-yard touchdown to give the Pokes a 7-0 lead. But the Cowboys were not done there, as Robinson on their next possession threw over the top to Bryant who made an over the shoulder catch in the back of the end zone for a 21-yard touchdown, already his second touchdown of the quarter. However, the extra point was doinked off the upright but OSU was still ahead 13-0.

Texas would finally counter back with an impressive drive mainly on the ground from HB Cody Johnson. On 4th-and-inches in the red zone, Mack Brown decided to take the risk and the gamble paid off as QB Sherrod Harris, in for the injured Colt McCoy, threw a clutch pass in traffic to WR Malcolm Williams for a seven-yard touchdown to make it 13-7 OSU going into the 2nd quarter.

Texas would finally slow down the explosive Cowboy offense to a field goal attempt that went wide right. Then the Longhorns put another drive together where Harris hooked up with WR Jordan Shipley deep for a 38-yard touchdown to give Texas the 14-13 lead. But the Cowboys immediately countered back as HB Kendall Hunter broke containment to the outside, broke a tackle and took it to the house for an 80-yard touchdown scamper, regaining the lead for the Pokes 20-14.

It was clear that the Longhorns missed Colt McCoy as Harris would throw two interceptions on the next two possessions. One of which, was returned for a Cowboy pick-six to put Oklahoma State out in front 27-14. But Longhorn HB Cody Johnson would cut the lead to 27-21 with a punishing 13-yard touchdown run just before halftime.

Dez Bryant left off where he started in the 2nd half as Zac Robinson hit him on a deep pass at the sideline where Bryant was just able to make the catch while keeping a foot in bounds. Then raced down the sideline for a 49-yard touchdown, his third of the day to put OSU ahead 34-21.

Texas countered back with Sherrod Harris hitting TE DJ Grant in the end zone for a five-yard touchdown to make it 34-28 OSU. Oklahoma State looked like they were going to move in for another score but Robinson would throw a ball with no zip toward the sideline where CB Aaron Williams made the interception and returned it all the way for a pick-six, silencing Boone-Pickens Stadium as the Longhorns suddenly took the 35-34 lead.

Later, Robinson would find Bryant again. This time on a deep post where Bryant had gotten past the secondary. The ball hit him in stride and he was in for a 68-yard touchdown, his fourth touchdown of the game to put OSU ahead 42-35 as they converted on the 2-point try.

Texas would make things interesting to start the 4th quarter by tacking on a 37-yard field goal to make it 42-38 OSU. Then on the Longhorns' next possession, it looked like they were about to score but Jerrod Harris threw an interception on a screen. Then Zac Robinson led the Pokes down the field and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to WR Bo Bowling, Robinson's 5th touchdown pass of the game to put the Cowboys up 48-38 because of another missed XP. The game was put away for Oklahoma State when Harris was picked off in the red zone. A wave of fans clad in orange stormed the field as the Cowboys had knocked off the #1 team in the land. The win also puts Oklahoma State in position to challenge for the Big 12 South and become a legitimite BCS contender.

                            Game of the Week

                            #7 Oklahoma (6-2) at #8 Nebraska (7-1)

Chris: And then there was only one. As Notre Dame is the only team left standing undefeated after Texas fell to Oklahoma State and even more shockingly, Wisconsin was upset by an unranked Purdue team. The craziness of the 2009 college football season continues. Welcome to Lincoln everybody. *crowd cheers* Where we have another big game out here in the Big 12. We're really getting used to this area of the country as the Big 12, it seems has the game of the week every week it seems. But this one is just as important as the others as Oklahoma now finds itself in a three-way tie with Texas and Oklahoma State in the South and Nebraska sits on top of the North, tied with Kansas who the Sooners just dominated. In addition, Ohio State will take on Penn State down in Happy Valley. The loser of the game is pretty much out of contention for the Big Ten as Northwestern and Wisconsin sit at the top of the conference. While Virginia will look to stay in the ACC Coastal race with a win over #10 Miami, as Virginia Tech is still undefeated in the ACC.

                            Games of the Week

                            #15 Ohio State (6-3) at #11 Penn State (7-2)
                            Kirk: OSU Lee: PSU

                            #24 Virginia (6-2) at #10 Miami (6-2)
                            Kirk: Miami Lee: Miami

Chris: Alright, so we turn our attention to this one here in the Big 12. Who do you got today guys?

Kirk: These are two explosive offenses but I'm expecting a close game with a lower score than many might think. Both teams are in the top 5 in rush defense. So I don't expect either team to run the ball effectively. As we will see two of the top DTs in the nation in McCoy for the Sooners and Suh for the Cornhuskers. But I think much like last week how Dez Bryant took over the game for Oklahoma State, I look for Niles Paul to be the difference maker as the Huskers win a close game. *crowd cheers*

Lee: Interesting pick Kirk. You're right about this being a close game, but come on...how can you not go with the team that has a QB with a Heisman trophy? Bradford is the x-factor today. He has a huge game today. *Lee puts on the schooner hat as the crowd boos* Boomer Sooner! Go Oklahoma!
