Preseason Game 4, Year 2: Cincinnati Bengals at Tennessee Titans

Note: The following is a brief summary of the Bengals' September 3, 2010 preseason game at Tennessee. Normal full-scale reporting will be reinstituted at the start of the 2010 regular season.

    27 -- 1-3
    24 -- 1-3

Summary: Bengals PK Shayne Graham's 34-yard field goal with :10 remaining gave Cincinnati a 27-24 preseason victory over Tennessee in both team's final tune-up before the regular season. Cincinnati QB J.T. O'Sullivan had a solid performance completing 8 of his 13 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns during the second half, compiling a 140.4 passer rating.

The Bengals rested most of their key personnel during the contest and several young players stepped up with big performances. Rookie WR Jacoby Ford scored on a 40-yard reception from QB Jordan Palmer in the first quarter and finished the game with 4 receptions for 64 yards. Rookie TE Ryan Moya also made his final case to stay on the active roster, hauling in 5 receptions for 94 yards, which included a 47-yard fourth quarter touchdown which gave his team a 24-21 lead with 14:52 to go in the game.

Cincinnati must get their roster down to 48 players this week prior to their regular season opener next Sunday at home against New Orleans.

Thanks man...I don't know why but my confidence is building. If Palmer stays healthy, I can actually see us winning 9 games and being in the playoff race towards the end.

The D has definitely shown some flashes. If they can just not totally implode like they did at times last season, Carson and co. should be able to do enough on offense for us to win.

Yeah that was a bummer but I doubt the CPU was going to use him in the manner you would expect (wildcat formations) with Flacco still being the starter.

                          Bengals | LB Wilhelm released
                          Mon, 5 Sep 2010 10:07:49 -0700
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Cincinnati Bengals have released OLB Matt Wilhelm (62 overall) from the team on the final day to cut down their roster to the 48-man maximum. Wilhelm, who was signed during the unrestricted free agent signing period, was unable to beat out reserve linebackers Blake Costanzo (62 overall) and John Digiorgio (71 overall) during the preseason. The Bengals will keep just six active linebackers on their active roster at this stage of the season. "We wanted to hold onto an extra receiver this year so we had to sacrifice at another area and for now, we've decided that the area is at reserve linebacker," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy. "We've been cross-training DE Michael Johnson at the SAM in the case of an emergency and he may also see time as a rush linebacker when we go with our 3-4 looks."

Jefferson failed to beat out Bengals 5th round draft choice Boo Robinson (58 overall) for a reserve defensive tackle position.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have released RB Brian Leonard (65 overall) from the team on the final day to cut down their roster to the 48-man maximum. "This was the toughest decision for us on cut down day," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy. "Brian is a heck of a player and a very versatile player who we hated to release but he just got caught up in a numbers game. We like Brian because he can play both running back and full back but in the end we decided that we have a guy in TE Brandon Manumaleuna who could fill-in at fullback if needed as well. Brian will be on our speed dial though in case one of the other backs go down."

                          Bengals | CB Trent released

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have released CB Morgan Trent (63 overall) from the team on the final day to cut down their roster to the 48-man maximum. Trent's chances of making the team were slim following the selection of cornerbacks Joe Haden and Javier Arenas during the 2010 NFL Draft. The former Michigan Wolverine had 39 tackles, 6 sacks, and an interception last season serving as the team's nickle back. The Bengals, like last season, will carry four cornerbacks on their final 48 man roster.

He's on speed dial for sure man. I don't know what it is about him but he's just one of those guys you'd like to keep on your team.

I don't think we've seen the last of Leonard.

No joke, Leonard is a guy who never quits - [insert sad face].

Good work - and good luck!

Yep...I was going to roll with 2 tight ends since Martz doesn't really utilize tight ends much but I couldn't cut Moya after all the big plays he made during the preseason.

Basically to keep Leonard, it's either cut a tight end, cut a receiver, or cut another RB. Can't do any of those at this point.
