Game 2, Year 2: Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals

    38 -- 1-1
    09 -- 1-1

Ravens All-Pro FS Ed Reed scores on a 68-yard fumble return for a touchdown to make the score 31-0 in the third quarter. Reed recovered Bengals QB Carson Palmer's fumble following a 15-yard run and finished the game with 8 tackles and an interception to go along with this big play.

RAVENS D SHUTS DOWN PALMER AND THE BENGALS IN 38-9 THRASHING

Cincinnati turns the ball over 7 times in blowout loss, falls to 1-1 on the year | After big 10-catch performance, WR McDonald suffers severe concussion that is expected to keep him out the remainder of the 2010 season | Team scrambling for answers as they prepare to face Tampa Bay next week

The Cincinnati Bengals were blown away by the Baltimore Ravens 38-9 Sunday at home. Bengals QB Carson Palmer, fresh off one of the best performances of his career, struggled versus the ferocious Ravens defense going just 33 of 53 for 235 yards and throwing four interceptions. The Bengals turned the ball over a whopping 7 times during the contest.

Baltimore FS Ed Reed's 68-yard fumble return for a touchdown following Palmer coughing the ball up in Ravens' territory made the score 31-0 in the third quarter and ended all hopes of a Bengals comeback.

"They made us one-dimensional early when they took the big lead and when you become one-dimensional against a defense like that, you're in trouble," said Palmer.

The news got worse for Cincinnati when the team learned that their leading receiver, Shaun McDonald, suffered a high grade concussion in which doctors have already concluded will cause him to miss several months of action and effectively end his 2010 season. He was injured in the fourth quarter by Baltimore MLB Ray Lewis when he received a vicious hit while going over the middle to catch a pass. McDonald laid motionless on the turf for several seconds before being carted off.

McDonald was off to a hot start playing again in Mike Martz's offense, catching 10 receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown against the Ravens, one week after gaining over 100 receiving yards in the team's season opening win versus New Orleans. McDonald will likely be replaced in the lineup by WR Mike Furrey and the team will need to sign another receiver to take his place on the active roster.

"This was a tough deal for him because he was off to such a fast start," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz.

"We have some options of replacing him but there is no replacing the type of speed Shaun brought to this offense."

The team also lost rookie WR Jacoby Ford with an abdominal injury early in the game that is expected to keep him out of one week of action.

Cincinnati (1-1) will host Tampa Bay (0-2) next week at home.

Yep...Definitely felt like a totally different game against this bunch. It was a very physical football game.

Nice opening week win against the Saints. CJ Spiller and Shaun McDonald really looked good against New Orleans. Seems McDonald was carrying that over against Baltimore before being knocked out with his concussion. I thought McDonald would have a good year and he looked to be on his way. It's a shame he can't finish. I expect Furrey to fill in admirably. His make-up is similar to that of McDonald. Gotta get Ochocinco going though. He has been kind of quiet thus far. What's up with Mays though? This is the 2nd or 3rd injury he has had since the preseason. Does he have a low INJ rating? Looking forward to the Tampa game...I hope you kick their ass.

tough second loss, but you did a great job of not folding in the first game and hanging in there to get the win. Spiller=sleeper IMO. What sliders do you use?

Tough loss man. It is always so hard to rebound when you fall behind early and have to constantly pass. That's a shame about McDonald he looked well on his way to having a great season. I think Furrey should step in nicely to Martz's offense, though. Hopefully Palmer and the offense can rebound against the Bucs. Good luck!

Bengals.com reports that the Cincinnati Bengals have signed free agent WR Dane Looker (62 overall) to a one-year contract. Looker, 34, is an 8-year NFL veteran who played with the St. Louis Rams from 2003-2008. "Dane is a player that is very familiar with our system and we needed a guy that we can plug right in and play," said Bengals head coach Mike Martz. "I'm sure there will be some rust since he did not play last season but I think Dane will pick up right where he left off."

"Condren is a guy that we had a high grade on during the off-season and we think he has potential," said Bengals G.M. D.Geezy. "We have an extra roster spot available and this looked like a perfect opportunity to get a look at this player." Condren was picked in the fourth round by the Indianapolis Colts during the 2007 draft but the Troy University graduate has bounced around with three different teams since then.

McDonald was definitely off to a fast start. He looked like T.J. Houshmandzadeh out there.

The thing we'll miss the most is his 92 speed. Furrey is nowhere close to that and has just 75 speed but has great hands.

Mays' injury rating is an 87. He needs to start making some plays soon to justify that fat contract.

Everything default All-Madden except for CPU pass block at 5.

Thanks man...Definitely a shame on McDonald. He was slowly becoming my favorite player and go-to guy. Hopefully Furrey or even Looker can step up. Not to mention Brandon London and Ochocinco.

I love the Dane Looker signing. What is his speed rating? I think he will do well for you down the road especially since he has been with Martz before. Good luck in your next game!
He's not the most fleet-footed guy, 75 speed just liek Furrey. He does have a pretty solid 80 cth rating though.

I wanted to sign a guy that could realistically play right away in Martz's system (realistically meaning from a story-telling point of view). He'll be my #4 wide receiver immediately.

I agree. It's definitely always better to keep it realistic. That's one of the things that makes this franchise so great.

Game 3, Year 2: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Cincinnati Bengals

                          28 -- 1-2
                          20 -- 1-2

Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco goes over the career 10,000 yard receiving yards mark on this third quarter 10-yard touchdown reception. The score was Ochocinco's second of the day but in the end it wasn't enough for Cincinnati.

Tough loss man. Freeman really played lights out. Looks like the secondary had a rough day. It was nice to see the huge game from Chad though. Good luck in the rematch with the Ravens!

Chad really got involved and was finding the holes in the zone often. It's about time he stepped up!
