Edwards Is NOT The QB Of The Bills Future

The Buffalo Bills faithful fan base has been waiting for an effective signal caller ever since Jim Kelly’s tearful retirement in 1996.

There is a faction of Bills fans that hail Trent Edwards as this long sought after savior, the one that will lead the Bills out of the desert of mediocrity and ineptitude and into the promised land of NFL relevance.

However, despite the Bills impressive 6-2 record as the Bills enter their bye in week 9, Edwards has not performed well. Yes, he is ranked amongst the best in the league in total yards passed but he is far from efficient at doing it. His completion percentage lingers just over 50% while his 25 interceptions are a league-worst and put him on pace to finish the season with 50 interceptions.

That would be enough to break, actually shatter, George Blanda's infamous 1962 season record of 42 interceptions.

The fact of the matter is, how hard can it be to throw for lots of yards when you're 1 and 2 receivers are Terrell Owens and Lee Evans, one of the top receiving duo's in the league?

Luckily, the Bills defense and special teams have been able to put points up on the board and have bailed Edwards out big time. (4 interception return TD's, 2 kickoff return TD's in their past 2 games)

Best case scenario, Edwards turns it around in the 2nd half of the season and starts throwing to his teammates instead of the other team.

We can all cling to the rare feel good stories like Drew Brees where previously dismal QBs finally blossom in their 3rd or 4th years. For the most part, however, QBs tend to be who we thought they were by the time they get a full NFL season under the belt.

Dan Marino was setting records by his second year, Ben Rothelisburger was winning super bowls, hell even Matt Ryan looked sharp as a rookie.

The Bills are likely to make the playoffs this year barring any meltdown's reminiscent of last season's but are highly unlikely (see impossible) to win a Super Bowl with Edwards at the helm.

For the Bills faithful, it may be time to face the fact the Trent Edwards is a middling game manger that is timid with his throws, prone to throwing interceptions and not the future leader of a high powered offense.

I may just have to go back to the style of play that was successful for him last season. Short passes. Me trying to go for big plays is costing him bigtime. He should be better than how I'm playing with him.

I want it to work with him, I really do. But he isn't showing me he is capable of leading this team. :dontknow:

We are one of the worst pass defenses yard-wise in the league despite being able to intercept a good amount of passes. lol. Aside from Jamal Lewis though, no running back has ran for over 100 yards on us. :joystick:

                      Week 10 Preview
Sunday, November 15, 1:00 PM @ LP Field

                      (6-2) @ (1-7)

The Bills are riding the crest of a 2 game win streak and coming off their bye week heading into week 10 of the 2009/2010 NFL season.

On the other hand, the Titans are in a free fall, losing their last 6 games after winning their season opener.

The Titans' last 2 losses have been determined by 4 or less points while the Bills have had a fire lit under them after an embarassing week 6 loss to the Jets, winning their 2 last games by at least 18 points.

Will the Titans be able to turn the ship around in this week's matchup or will the Bills defense and special teams continue to lead them towards a playoff berth?
