    Texans Hold 'Em

The Texans finished 2008 by tying a franchise-best 8-8 record and going 5-1 over the final six weeks of the season.

Big reasons for that success can go to the offense.

The Texans finished third in the NFL in offense with 382.1 yards a game. The Passing game for the Texans was very good. It didn't matter if they had Matt Schaub or Sage Rosenfels playing QB, they still found a way to get it to Andre Johnson.

Andre Johnson lead the NFL in receptions with 115. He gained 1,575 yards on those catches, and caught 8 touchdowns. Andre is regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.

Andre Johnson wasn't the only Texan receiver to play great this season. Kevin Walter and Tight End Owen Daniels also had great seasons.

Kevin Walter caught 60 balls for 899 yards and 8 touchdowns. He is a great counter part for Andre Johnson on the other side of the field.

Owen Daniels really emerged as one of the best tight ends the past season. He got 862 yards on 70 catches last season.

Even with Owen Daniels having the surprising season he had, he did not have the most surprising. That went to Steve Slaton.

The rookie drafted in the third round of the NFL draft, suppose to be too small to be a starting running back in the NFL, started the final 15 games of the season and played fantastic. He lead all rookies in rushing yards with 1,282 yards on 268 attempts. That is a 4.8 average. He also found the end zone 9 times. He also caught the ball 50 times for 377 yards and a touchdown. He looks to have a great season again for the Texans.

On defense, again Mario Williams lead the Texans on the defensive line. He recorded 12 of the team's 25 sacks.

The line backing corps played decent, but the season was full with injuries for them. Demeco Ryans played with an ankle injury and got a career low 112 tackles. He still lead the Texans in tackles.Zac Diles was leading the Texans defense early in the season with 66 tackles, but he ended up going down with a season ending injury. Rookie Xavier Adibi also played well when healthy.

The secondary is the teams biggest place of improvement. They really missed Dunta Robinson when he was hurt with career threatening injuries. Once he returned, the secondary played very well. Jacques Reeves played very well this season, better then expected. Fred Bennett was very inconsistent, but still had a pretty good season. The safety positions were up for grabs till Nick Ferguson and Eugene Wilson settled those positions and played very well.

Kris Brown had a career year, making 29 field goals out of 33 attempts. He also had a team high 117 points.

With all this talent on offense, defense, and special teams, the Texans look like they are ready to get out of the cellar and into the playoffs.
