That and I'm going against lesser skilled pitchers. This is the bottom of the Rangers rotation until game 3 when I go up against Millwood. I'm still leaving tons of runners stranded it feels like.
I got robbed on a run early in the game when Sheffield drove a line drive to CF and Polanco tried to get home from 2B but got tagged out.Comment

Wow dude, I'm flattered. Thanks a lot. I'm having a lot of fun with this so far.Comment

Hmm, I wanna say closer to line drive kinda. Both to left field as well. It seems like most of my hits are pulled to left actually with most of my batters being right handed.Comment

there you go mike, nice win although would of liked to see a little more cushion.
its always good to learn how to win the close ones early though, nice work with D-Train tooComment

Mike, are you stealing bases? Sacrifice flying? Doing stuff like that to get runs when you're on base?
If you're grounding into too many double plays, remember you don't want to swing at anything down when someone is on 1st or it will most likely end in a grounder and a double play.Last edited by The Messenger; 03-06-2009, 09:50 AM.Comment

I've sac bunted a couple of times already to get runners from 1st to 2nd in 0 out situations. I haven't really atttempted to sac fly except for one occasion where I drove a fly ball to right field but my runner got picked off trying to advance from 2nd to 3rd. lol. Kinda got messed up with the baserunning controls for a second there.
I'm sure my run production will increase as I get better.
Remember, 1st mlb chise and 1st mlb game in a longgggg time.
Thanks for the advice. I really need to be more patient and stop swinging at bad pitches. I'm not forcing pitchers to throw a lot of pitches at this point.Comment

Laird To Take Day Off; Leyland To Shake Up Lineup
Tigers manager Jim Leyland will give catcher Gerald Laird the day off for the Tigers upcoming game against the Rangers in hopes of giving him a little extra rest.
With Laird to miss the 2nd game of a 3 game series with the Rangers, Leyland plans on shaking up the lineup in hopes of increasing offensive production.
Brandon Inge, currently playing at 3rd, will take pitches behind the plate in Laird's absence. Carlos Guillen, currently out in left field will take over at 3rd, and hard hitting Marcus Thames, will take over duties in left field.
Guillen and Inge will both continue to bat in the 6th and 7th spots of the batting order respectively while Thames will fill in for Laird and bat 8th.
The Tigers hope laird will pick up right where he left off upon his return. Laird has been a pleasant surprise for the Tigers this season, already drilling 2 homers in 5 games.Comment

Yeah, the game actually prompted me to give Laird a day off before I started the next game because he's low on energy/tired.
So I figured I'd use this as a way to get Thames some playing time.
Pretty cool the game has progressive fatigue.Comment
