Vermont obliterates Orangemen, Thompson scores four in 42-0 win
Burlington, VT -- The Catamounts looked like they were in a different league than Syracuse today in
a dominant 42-0 win over the Orangemen.
Vermont's defense didn't allow a single Syracuse trip into the red-zone, and only 164 yards of total
offense.
Thompson ran all over Syracuse for 174 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries. He broke his own
record for yards in a season from last year in the second quarter, and finished the game with 1,753
yards.
Syracuse wasn't in it from the start as Vermont jumped out to a 14, nothing lead in the first on a
Thompson 25-yard run and James Lee 12 yard interception return touchdown.
They built their lead to 28 in the second with a Terrance Oliver to Chuck Jones 21-yard touchdown
pass and a Thompson one-yard run.
After a 22-yard Thompson touchdown run that made it 35-0, Syracuse made it past Vermont's 40 for the
first time in the game, but Lee Owens forced a Syracuse fumble after a Justin Tate catch, with Carpenter
recovering for Vermont.
Thompson recorded his fourth touchdown of the game from 14 yards with over a minute left in the fourth
on a 4th & 11 try that made it 42 to nothing.

Vermont blows out Bulls, wins ninth straight
Burlington, VT -- Vermont finished off their regular season strong with a 37-10 win over #24 South
Florida.
It stayed close in the first half (10-10 after the first), with both teams turning the ball over often,
three times for South Florida and four times for Vermont (all Terrance Oliver interceptions).
Oliver came back with a strong second half, and Vermont took off scoring 27 points in the second
half to cruise to an easy win.
Matt Thompson rushed for 264 yards, the 247th giving Thompson 2,000 on the season, and three
touchdowns.
Vermont set the tone early, with Frank Johnson intercepting Josh Miller on the first play of the
game. Nine plays later and Vermont was up seven on an Oliver to Chuck Jones seven yard
touchdown.
They made it 10-nothing a minute or so later with a 26-yard Eli Thomas field goal.
South Florida got on the board in the second with a 41-yard field goal after Oliver was picked off by
Ryan Sanders at UVM's 43.
After Oliver threw his fourth pick at USF's one with 12 seconds left, the Bulls ran an option play left
with Miller pitching to Tyrone Hampton (then getting nailed) and Hampton breaking a tackle and
outrunning everyone 99 yards for a touchdown that made it 10 all at half.
On Vermont's second play after the break, Thompson took the pitch, followed some blockers broke
two tackles (at once) and scored 67 yards later to take a 17-10 lead.
A 51-yard field goal and one-yard Thompson run extended the UVM lead to 17 in the third.
The Vermont defense remained stout in the second half, not allowing a score.
In the fourth, Vermont added a 23-yard field goal and five-yard Thompson touchdown run in the
fourth to their score, that made it 37 to South Florida's 10.
