                  Lineups
Welcome to baseball, 2010! We here at Extra Bases are ready to kick off the season against the hated
                  Yankees. Here are the lineups:

                  RED SOX (0-0)
                  Ellsbury LF
                  Pedroia 2B
                  Martinez C
                  Youkilis 1B
                  Ortiz DH
                  Drew RF
                  Beltre 3B
                  Cameron CF
                  Scutaro SS

Pitching: RHP Josh Beckett (0-0, 0.00)

                  YANKEES (0-0)
                  Jeter SS
                  Johnson SS
                  Rodrigues 3B
                  Teizeria 1B
                  Cano 2B
                  Granderson CF
                  Posada C
                  Gardner LF
                  Swisher RF

                  Pitching: LHP C.C. Sabathia (0-0, 0.00)

                  Top 1st: Yankees 2, Red Sox 0

Yankees jump out to an early lead thanks to some defensive troubles for the Sox. After Jeter flew out to
start the inning, Beckett hit Johnson, Rodriguez was given a single on what should have been an error for
Beltre at third as the ball went under his glove, and then Scutaro bobbled a sure double play ball at short
and couldn't get anyone, loading the bases. After striking out Cano, Granderson lined to left for a single
                  scoring Johnson and A-Rod.

                  Bottom 1st: Yankees 2, Red Sox 0

Ellsbury doulbed to start the inning, but on a passed ball gambled trying to get to third, and was thrown
out. Pedroia followed with a single to center that would have scored Ellsbury. Martinez struck out, and
Youkilis was hit by a pitch, and then Ortiz walked to load the bases with two outs. Drew came up empty
                  though, grounding out to second.

                  Bottom 2nd: Yankees 2, Red Sox 0

Boston threatened again after Cameron legged out an infield hit with one out, and Ellsbury lined to center
with two. It looked like they were gonna get on the board when Pedroia hit to Teixiera's right, but Cano
made a fantastic diving stop to throw out Pedroia, stranding two more.

                  Top 3rd: Yankees 4, Red Sox 0

More two out damage for the Yanks, Teixieria singling to center before Cano ground out weakly to Pedroia
who had to charge the ball and who's only option was the out at first. Granderson then tripled into the
right field corner on a 3-2 fastball, scoring Texieira. Posada followed with a bloop single to left, scoring
Granderson. Beckett then got Gardner on three pitches.

                  Bottom 4th: Yankees 4, Red Sox 0

Another opportunity by the wayside for the Sox, with two outs to be fair. Cameron singled, and Scutaro
walked, but Ellsbury broke his bat on a weak foul out to third.

                  Top 6th: Yankees 4, Red Sox 0

Not much doing aside for a couple singles for each team the past inning and a half, Ortiz, Drew, and
Beltre coming up for the Sox. Ramon Ramirez is warming in the pen.

                  Top 7th: Yankees 4, Red Sox 0

Beckett gets the first out, but after allowing a Jeter single to right, Francona made the change, Ramirez
coming in. Beckett threw 101 pitches, giving up two earned, and striking out seven. Ramirez got the last
                  two easily.

                  Bottom 7th: Yankees 4, Red Sox 0

Boston just can't get any timely hitting tonight. Cameron lead off the inning with a single, followed by a
Scutaro walk. Ellsbury then flew out to Gardner in left, and Pedroia ground out weakly to Cano at second.
Martinez walked to load the bases with two outs, but Youk popped up to first to strand three more. That
might have been the Sox' last chance in this one.

                  Top 8th: Yankees 6, Red Sox 0

New York blows this one open. Ramirez stayed in there after getting two quick outs in the 7th. Cano
started the inning doubling off the monster, then Granderson homered over it to add two to their score.
Okajima is warming in the pen.

Ramirez got the last three. Sabathia still in the game with 115 pitches.

                  Top 9th: Yankees 6, Red Sox 0

Okajima with a quick 1-2-3 inning. Sabathia still in with 123 pitches, going for the shutout, he's
gotta be on a short leash though. Cameron, Scutaro, and Ellsbury are coming up.

                  Bottom 9th: Yankees 6, Red Sox 0

Red Sox go down in order, Sabathia gets the shutout. The Sox got their hits and walks (eight and four) but
just could never capitalize. Granderson the player of the game going 3-3 with a home run, triple, walk, and
                  5 RBI.

After a tough first game of the season, the Sox hope to bounce back against Javier Vazquez tonight.

                      Lineups

                      RED SOX (0-1)
                      Ellsbury LF
                      Pedroia 2B
                      Martinez C
                      Youkilis 1B
                      Ortiz DH
                      Drew RF
                      Beltre 3B
                      Cameron CF
                      Scutaro SS

Pitching: LHP Jon Lester (0-0, 0.00)

                      YANKEES (1-0)
                      Jeter SS
                      Johnson DH
                      Rodriguez 3B
                      Teixeira 1B
                      Cano 2B
                      Posada C
                      Thames RF
                      Swisher LF
                      Granderson CF

Pitching: LHP Javier Vazquez (0-0, 0.00)

                      Top 1st: Yankees 1, Red Sox 0

Lester strikes Jeter out on a curveball in the dirt, but Martinez' throw to first sailed high, and Jeter advanced to second on
the strikeout. Johnson flew to center and Jeter tagged up to third, and Rodriguez doubled off the monster, scoring Jeter.
Errors haunt the Sox early again.

                      Bottom 2nd: Yankees 1, Red Sox 2

The Sox have hit Vazquez pretty hard so far, and they finally just got their first runs of the year on a David Ortiz two-run
shot into the Yankee bullpen. Youkilis started the inning with a single.

                      Top 3rd: Yankees 2, Red Sox 2

Yankees get the run right back after Jeter score from second after his leadoff double on a Nick Johnson single.

                      Bottom 4th: Yankees 2, Red Sox 2

Not much doing for either offense, Lester has seven strike outs threw four innings.

                      Top 5th: Yankees 3, Red Sox 2

Granderson is killing the Sox this series. He started the innings with a double into the right field corner, then advanced to
third on a passed ball. Lester walked Jeter, and then got the double play ball from Johnson, but Granderson scored on
the play. Lester got A-Rod to strike out to end the inning.

                      Bottom 6th: Yankees 3, Red Sox 3

Boston gets a bit of a rally going, albeit just for a run. Pedoria singled to lead off, Martinez was hit by a pitch, and then
Youkilis and Oritz flied out to center. Drew came up big though singling to center, Pedoria scoring to tie the game.
Cameron hit one well into the gap, but Thames ran it down in right center for the last out. Lester still in.

                      Top 7th: Yankees 3, Red Sox 3

Swisher starts the inning with a single just out of reach for Scutaro up the middle, which is enough for Francona. In
comes Delcarman. Lester went six innings, giving up 3 earned on seven hits and two walks, and he struck out eight.

Delcarman gets three quick outs and Swisher doesn't leave first. Bottom of the order coming up.

                      Bottom 7th: Yankees 3, Red Sox 3

Pedroia strands Scutaro at third after he doubled with one out and advanced to third on an Ellsbury ground out. Thames
just barely got to the ball hit just at the wall at the Pesky pole for the last out.

                      Top 8th: Yankees 4, Red Sox 3

Delcarman gets hit hard in his second inning of work. The Yankees got three straight singles to start the inning from
Rodriguez, Teixeira, and Cano quickly taking the 4-3 lead. Ellsbury saved a couple runs with an amazing diving catch in
left field that would have gone for a double, and then Scutaro caught a line drive at short for the second out. Delcarman
finally got Swisher to strike out to end the inning.

                      Bottom 8th: Yankees 4, Red Sox 3

The heat of the order goes down in order with three hard hit, poorly-placed balls.

                      Top 9th: Yankees 8, Red Sox 3

And….the Yankees blow it open again, Papelbon struggling. Granderson doubled, again, to left, Jeter struck out looking,
Johnson lined to left for a single, then A-Rod smacked one over the green monster for the three-run homer to take a 7-3
                      lead.

New York keeps padding their lead. Cano hit a ground rule double to right with two outs, followed by a Posada double to
left, Ellsubry coming up just short with the dive. Papelbon finally got Thames to ground out to end the inning.

                      Bottom 9th: Yankees 8, Red Sox 3

Alfredo Aceves closes out the ninth, and the Yankees take game two of the series. Boston just can't seem to get a good rally
going in either of their first two games.

Boston trying to salvage the third game of the series tonight against A.J. Burnett, with John Lackey making his Red Sox

                          Garnder LF
                          Swisher RF

                          Pitching: RHP A.J. Burnett (0-0, 0.00)

                          Bottom 2nd: Yankees 0, Red Sox 0

Two 1-2-3 innings for Lackey to start, and one for Burnett.

Teixeira and Rodriguez made two fantastic diving plays to rob Ortiz and Cameron of basehits, and then Burnett
plunked Beltre, before Hermida lined out to center.

                          Top 4th: Yankees 0, Red Sox 0

Lackey pitches out of a jam after allowing a leadoff single to Jeter, and a Rodriguez ground rule double with one out,
with a Teixeira strike out and Cano line out.

Lackey left a 1-2 changeup over the plate and Gardner curled it barely around the pole in right with Posada at first for

Kevin Youkilis gives the Sox the lead with a three-blast to the deepest part of the park. Pedroia walked to start the
inning, followed by a Martinez single to right. David Robertson in to relieve Burnett.

Robertson got Ortiz to fly out to right before giving up single to Cameron and double to Beltre off the monster. Hermida
singled up the middle, picking up two more RBI. Finally some timely hitting for Boston. After Scutaro getting a single to

Sox trying to add some insurance with Martinez at first (single) and Ortiz at second (double), can't, with Cameron
popping up to Jeter and Beltre flying out to Gardner. Daniel Bard coming in.

                          Bottom 8th: Yankees 2, Red Sox 6

1-2-3 inning for Joba; Johnson, A-Rod, and Teixeira coming up for New York.

                          getting Boston its first win.
