Rodger Goodell answering questions at his most recent press conference.
(AP) - July brings many things: lightning bugs, vacations, longer days, and most importantly, the anticipation of another NFL season.
"July is the worst time of the year for people associated with the NFL," said Rodger Goodell at a recent press conference. "The football season is less than a month away, but until then there is nothing to do except sit and wait."
Last year's memorable season ended with a memorable playoffs, finally ending with the New Orleans Saints being crowned Super Bowl Champs with their 31-17 upset of the Indianapolis Colts. "If the momentum created in the 2009 Playoffs carries over to 2010, we could have one hell of a season," said Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis.
You remember the NFC Championship game from last season? That controversial game between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints? The one that caused the new overtime rule? Well, folks, now we can have--if Brett Favre returns--a perfect rematch of that game; week 1 will feature the Vikings and the Saints squaring off again. "A perfect accident," said Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
As I mentioned earlier, Rodger Goodell held a press conference just a few days ago. The conference, aired on ESPN2 and the NFL Network, was just an announcement telling fans what to expect for the upcoming season. "The official start of the preseason," as Goodell put it.
