After being torched by Patriots QB Tom Brady, the Bengals defense knew they had to shape up and start locking down. It took 3 quarters before they finally found their niche, but boy did they ever get it in during the 4th quarter against Baltimore. It was your typical AFC North struggle for the first three quarters as the defense dominated the game and the score was tied at 13 going into the 4th. Little did Joe Flacco and co. know what was about to hit them. A barrage of pick 6’s in the 4th, one from Leon Hall, Chinedum Ndukwe and Jonathan Joseph, helped the Bengals put away the Ravens late in the game.

Early on the Ravens dominated the Bengals up front on both sides of the ball. Ray Rice was gashing the porous Cincy defense for almost 100 yards in the 1st quarter alone. On the other side of the ball, things weren’t going well for Cedric Benson either as he was being gobbled up at the line of scrimmage every play. The passing game couldn’t get anything going in the first half either, more in part to very untimely drops from the likes of T.O. and rookie Jordan Shipley. Both teams had long sustained drives that ended in numerous field goals as the defenses seemed to lock down once the opponent got inside the red zone.

Then the 4th quarter happened. Leon Hall, Pick 6. Chinedum Ndukwe, Pick 6. Jonathan Joseph, Pick 6. Tack on another Cedric Benson touchdown and Baltimore had no idea what had hit them. 31 points later, the Bengals found themselves on the winning side of the scoreboard 44-13. The defense really showed up today. Pacman Jones had a field day getting at Flacco, sacking the QB twice and having numerous other pressures. LB Rey Maualuga set the tone early in the first with some crushing hits. Next week the Bengals go on the road to face the Carolina Panthers, who also find themselves sitting at 1-1.

Three pick 6's? Jesus, if it weren't for that, not sure if you would've won. Hahahaha.

The Bengals continued right where they left off last week against Baltimore, getting an interception returned for a touchdown in the 1st quarter. A blitzing Rey Maualuga pressured Panthers QB Matt Moore into a poor throw that Odom was able to pick off and take the distance. The secondary came out firing on all cylinders, forcing the Panthers to turn to the running game early in the game. That worked until Jonathan Stewart was injured and not able to return the game. After a couple of lucky breaks, the Bengals found themselves up 23-0 mid way through the second quarter. Many would say the Bengals got outplayed from that point in the game.

Sloppy play from the offense allowed the Panthers to crawl back into the game. Carson Palmer threw 3 picks and the Bengals coughed the ball up one other time. Carolina fought back on a pair of Brandon Lafell touchdowns in the 4th quarter, but the Bengals running game proved to be too strong. Not only did Cedric Benson run wild, spell back Bernard Scott racked up over 70 yards on only 6 carries. “Ced was out there wearing their front line down, and when I came in the line opened up huge holes allowing me to gash them for some large gains,” Scott said after the game.

Carolina had a chance in the end if they could stop the Bengals offense late in the 4th, but the Cincy rushing attack was too powerful and ate up the clock to seal the victory for the orange and black. Jermaine Gresham continues to be a favorite target of Palmer, catching a touchdown pass and having over 90 yards. Chad Ochocinco struggled, only reeling in 1 pass, and had 2 drops including one that fell into the hands of Chris Gamble. The defense continues to play solid, and the Bengals are feeling good about themselves going into next week. The Bengals travel to the dawg pound next week to face the AFC North leading Cleveland Browns. Expect a lot of hard hits and trash talk in this battle for Ohio.

Ochocinco, Wright have verbal battle via Twitter

Just 3 days before the upcoming battle for Ohio, Browns CB Eric Wright had no problems stirring up the pot a little. A known twitter-fiend himself, Wright sent Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco a little friendly tweet earliar. Here is what it read.

It didn't take long for Ocho to respond either, as he seems to always be sending out tweets on the social networking site.

The two haven't said anything to each other since this tweet, but one thing we can be certain of and that is both guys are going to come out fired up on Sunday.

Wright is having a great season so far, already having 2 INTs, and has yet to give up over 65 yards recieving on the year. He is starting to make his trek towards the upper echelon of defensive backs in the league. Chad hasn't been able to get on the right track yet, with only 6 catches in the Bengals 1st three games. Don't be shocked to see him have a big game since the stakes have noe been raised.

Year after year Bengals and Browns fans get hyped up for the annual “Battle of Ohio”. The first edition of this years fight could not be decided in regulation, as it took extra time for the Bengals to escape the Dawg Pound with a victory. The hype leading up to this game was huge, as Browns DB Eric Wright talked some smack on the website “Twitter”. This smack talk clearly fueled Chad Ochocinco’s aggression as he ended up having a monster day reeling in 3 touchdown catches. Wright did have his say though, as he was able to hold Terrell Owens with out a catch. This game featured little defense, and a lot of fire works from both teams.

The Browns were sitting pretty, up 14-7 late in the 2nd quarter with the ball. That is when a game changing play took place when Leon Hall intercepted a Delhomme pass intended for Cribbs and took it to the house to tie up the game right before half. The swing in momentum from this play was clear immediately after halftime as the Bengals came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders. Ochocinco burned the Browns defense on the 1st play after the 2nd half kickoff and scored on a 78 yard bomb from Palmer. The two hooked up later in the 3rd for another lengthy score as well.

For what seems like the 10th time in the row, Cincinnati built up a 14+ point lead in the 4th quarter only to let it slip away as the game winds down. The Browns were able to score a TD with only a minute left in the game driving the length of the field on the Bengals D. Luckily for the Bengals, they were fortunate enough to win the coin toss in over time and were able to march down the field for the game winning touch down. Next up, the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers come to town for a scrum.

Jones gones down with injury, Pierce signed

                          - The Cincinnati Bengals needed to fill a void created by injury in last week's game, and the signing of MLB Antonio Pierce is perfect. He fills in great for the injured Dhani Jones. Jones is expected to miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained ankle.

It did not take long for people watching the game to realize the Bengals game plan going into this game. Attack Tampa’s weak run defense. Mission accomplished, I gues you could say. Cedric Benson broke off a 89-yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter, and never looked back from there. Benson went on to tally up 189 yards and two scores. Buccaneer defenders could do nothing to stop Benson. Carson Palmer had an easy job during this game because all he had to do was hand the ball off and watch ‘Ced do his thang.

Palmer struggled throwing the ball, only completing 13 of his 38 attempts. He was also picked off once by up and coming star Aqib Talib. Last game Palmer and Ochocinco carried this high powered offense. This week the team relied on a great defensive effort and some superb running from Benson. After being shut down last week for no catches against the Browns, T.O. was able to haul in a couple receptions today for 72 yards. The passing game struggled to find any type of rhythm due to pressure and good coverage.

The defense played great today. After Jerome Harrison ran for well over 100 yards last week, the Bengals D toughened up today only giving up 50 yards on the ground. They played solid in the pass game too, aside from giving up one big play to rookie WR Mike Williams. The Bucs fell to 1-3 with the loss, and they look to be headed for another dismal year. Cincinnati upped their record to 4-1 heading into the bye, as they prepare to head into Atlanta in 2 weeks.

Looks like Benson is an early MVP candidate. Definitely didn't surprise me that he ran all over the Bucs defense.
