For the second week in a row, the Cincinnati Bengals relied on Cedric Benson to lead them to victory. This time, Benson scores the go ahead touchdown with 17 seconds left in the game to give the Bengals a 31-24 comeback win in Atlanta. The score was Benson’s 3rd of the game, bringing his season total to 10 in only 6 games. He gained 164 yards on 20 attempts today, which raises his average to 130.5 Yards Per Game so far. These numbers along with the Bengals 5-1 record has Sportscenter talking about Benson in the MVP Race.

Early on it looked like the Falcons might be a tough match for the Bengals. They got out to a 24-14 lead in the 3rd quarter, thanks in large part to an awful passing performance put on by Carson Palmer. Palmer threw 4 picks in the day, and all of them came before the 4th quarter. This is the second straight dismal outing the quarterback has had, and fans are not happy. Carson needs to start playing better. Plain and simple. The Bengals got a huge break early in the 3rd quarter as Falcons QB Matt Ryan was injured and did not return to the game.

The final turning point in the game took place on the last play of the 3rd quarter. Falcons had just been stopped, and punted the ball to Adam “Pacman” Jones. 93 yards and a cloud of dust later, Jones was dancing in the end zone. Momentum was on the Bengals side the rest of the way. Only down 3 going into the 4th quarter, fans and players both knew it was time for Ced to do his thing. The game was tied, and the Bengals were driving about to kick the go ahead field goal. Benson took matters into his own hands, breaking a few tackles and trotting in for his 3rd score of the day. There was not enough time for a Falcons comeback, and Cincinnati completed the comeback 31-24. The Miami Dolphins head to Cincinnati next week for what should be another great game.

Something finally got to Carson Palmer. Whether it was the fans, the media, or maybe even his teammates. Whatever it was, it worked. Carson came out all guns firing against the Miami Dolphins. He passed for over 300 yards after struggling mightily in the last two games. Cincinnati went back to their old ways of winning. Big plays on offense and big plays on defense. The game started out with the Bengals getting on the board thanks to a Jonathan Joseph interception return for touchdown. It was his 2nd pick 6 of the year, tying him with teammate Leon Hall for the league lead so far.

The Bengals made it evident they were trying to re-establish their passing game. Palmer was able to hook up with rookie Jermaine Gresham twice for scores. He found Ochocinco numerous times as Chad almost went over the century mark. Carson also limited the bad throws, and finally took a few sacks instead of forcing the ball. Still, the Bengals D had a hell of a time trying to contain Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown. Brown had 2 long TD runs and tallied up over 150 yards on the ground. He ran all over the Bengals defense from start to finish on this day. On the flip side, Cedric Benson did not have a great day running the ball. He was contained and only held to a couple punishing runs. Before halftime the Bengals kicker Dave Rayner squandered an opportunity to put the Bengals up by missing a field. Redemption would be oh so sweet.

The game was back and forth during the 3rd and 4th quarters. Both teams had costly turnovers which created for a close finish right down to the wire. The Bengals got possession of the ball with under 3 minutes left in the game. That was all they needed. A combination of runs and passes got the ball down to a long, but very makeable FG attempt for Rayner. Rayner went up and booted the ball through the uprights as time expired, giving the Bengals the 30-27 win. The second week in a row the Bengals have won at the last second. Next week Cincy takes on struggling, bit still hated rival the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bengals. Steelers. Monday Night Football. What more can a football fan ask for? Even though the records may not have looked equal on paper, these two teams always come out and give it their all against each other and no game in this historic series goes down without excitement. This installment of the rivalry was no different. No sugar coating here, these teams just flat out hate each other. They showed it in this primetime matchup with bone jarring hits taking place all game. The Bengals were struck with a catastrophic blow in the 1st quarter, as starting QB Carson Palmer went down with an injury and could not return. Shades of the 2005 Playoffs all over again for Bengals fans. Depth at quarterback is a serious concern for the Bengals, and this game proved that. Carson’s brother, Jordan, had to come in and lead the team to victory.

Once Carson went down with the injury, the team morale was completely deflated. On the play he was injured, Palmer was picked off in the endzone. Backup JT O’Sullivan came in for 1 series, looked atrocious and was immediately replaced by Jordan Palmer. Palmer has absolutely no experience, so Bengals fans were preparing for the worst. Throwing an inexperienced quarterback out against the Steelers on Monday Night Football is like throwing a teddy bear into a lion’s cage. Not much good can come out of it…most would think. In a defensive battle where every yard was fought till the death, the Steelers found themselves up 10-7 at halftime thanks to a Troy Polamalu pick 6 right before half.

The 3rd quarter brought the excitement that was for sure. With the Steelers driving, Leon Hall picked off a pass for what nearly everyone thought would be a touchback. NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND. For some reason, the refs decided it was a safety against the Bengals! So instead of having the ball down 3, they were now punting the ball away down 5. A few plays after the free kick, Hines Ward broke about 7 tackles in route for a long touchdown, and after a fail 2-point conversion the Bengals found themselves down 18-7. Just like that. At this point, most fans are thinking its over with the Steelers D playing tough, and Jordan Palmer at quarterback. Fans must not forget that Cedric Benson is on the team. Benson would not let his team go down without a fight, and kept pummeling away at the Pittsburgh front line racking up minimal gains most of the time, but wearing the D down.

The turning point of the game came late in the 3rd quarter with the Bengals down 11, and punting the ball away to Pittsburgh. That is when Brandon Ghee, the rookie out of Wake Forest, made the biggest play of his career. Ghee crushed Logan on the punt return, and Pacman was able to recover the ball giving the Bengals great field position. Benson would punch it in pulling Cincinnati within 5. After another stop, it was Jordan Palmer’s time to shine. And shine he did. Palmer went 5/5 on the game winning drive, including the go-ahead TD to Terrell Owens just before the 2-minute warning. The score was Owens’ first on the year, but a vital one for the Bengals. Jordan wasn’t done there, as he ran in the 2 point conversion attempt to put the Bengals up 3. After a defensive stop, the Bengals found themselves unlikely victors 21-18. The true test comes next week as Cincinnati travels to face the Indianapolis Colts who are undefeated on the year so far at 8-0.

Shortly after the game it was found that Carson Palmer has a partial tear in his groin. He will miss 2 weeks of action. Palmer misses the Bengals showdown with the undefeated Colts next week, but shouldn’t be needed in Week 11 as the winless Bills come to down.

Early signs are that the Bengals front office will be signing a free agent over the next few days. Names such as Colt Brennan, Jamarcus Russell, and Mike Teel are being thrown into the fray as far as possible replacements for Palmer. More to come on who the Bengals pick up in a few days.

                        Bengals Sign Teel

Due to the recent injury of starting QB Carson Palmer, the Bengals were forced to make a roster move for their next 2 games. This move came as a surprise to many people, as JT O'Sullivan was released from the team, and 2nd year player out of Rutgers, Mike Teel was signed to the team. The team has full intentions of starting him against the undefeated Colts this upcoming week, and the following week against the shitty Buffalo Bills. Many people may not know how Mike Teel is, but thats ok. We feel he can come in and get the job done while Palmer rehabs his groin tear.

Teel was the quarterback at Rutgers when Ray Rice was there. All he had to do at Rutgers was hand the ball to Ray and make a few throws here and there. Thats the same gameplan the Bengals are going to give him. Give the ball to Ced, and watch him do his thing. Teel is willing to accept any role the Bengals give him. "Who knows, maybe we will come out and throw the ball 50 times against the Colts," Mike said after his 1st practice with the Bengals. We will have to wait and see how Teel does in his NFL debut!

The Bengals have pretty much cruised to their 7-1 record so far this season. They have beaten the teams they should have, but got shown up in the opening game by the Patriots. This week, Cincinnati faced another AFC power house, and proved they still are a ways from being able to really contend in this league. Although starting QB Carson Palmer was out, Teel was not the reason the Bengals lost this game. Peyton Manning absolutely shredded the defense, passing for over 300 yards and 4 touch downs. Not only was the pass defense horrid, Joseph Addai ran for 2 scores and over 130 yards.

“For a team that has been using its defense as a focal point this season, today’s performance was inexcusable.” Leon Hall told reporters after the game. Nothing went right for the Bengals. Teel looked timid and shaky at times which led to very inaccurate throws. He finally settled down a bit in the 4th, but by then the score was out of reach. Cedric Benson never got into a groove like he has been most of the year. The Colts defense was a force to be reckoned with. Unlike years past, this Indianapolis team has some guys out there playing defense. The only jolt came out of the special teams unit as Bernard Scott returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Aside from that, Cincinnati could not get anything going. Mike Teel did have a highlight reel type play coming in the 2 quarter. With the Bengals driving, Teel scrambled to the goal line and trucked over Bob Sanders. The powerful hit sent Sanders tumbling the ground in a heap of pain. He had to leave the game, and was later found to have a broken collarbone. Don’t mess with Teel.

Overall the Bengals just looked out of sync on offense. Whether it was the big time atmosphere, or the inexperienced quarterback who has only been on the team a few days, something wasn’t clicking on this given Sunday. The defense was on the field way too much as Manning was just out there playing catch with his receivers. He hooked up with 4 different players for scores. The Colts look like the team to beat this season. The only undefeated team at 9-0 and they yield the leagues best defense by far. The loss puts the Bengals at 7-2, but still in great shape in the division. The Buffalo Bills come to Cincinnati in Week 11, fresh off their 1st victory of the season over the Lions.

The Bengals matchup with the Buffalo Bills proved to be a big time trap game for the 1st place Bengals. The Bills came to town with only 1 win, but almost stole one away from a very sloppy Cincinnati team that looked dismal on offense with Mike Teel leading the way. Teel could not get anything going, but he was not helped out by his receivers, mainly Jermaine Gresham. Gresham had an embarrassing day, dropping 5 passes from Teel including 2 that would have been touch downs. The team had 9 drops which is one main reason the game was close.

The Bengals got out to an early 14-0 lead thanks to a Benson scoring run, and a Robert Geathers fumble return for a touch down. That was all the scoring Bengals fan would see until way late in the game. Buffalo battled back thanks in large part to 2 pick 6’s thrown by Mike Teel. The weather was awful, but not as bad as the play on the field between these two teams. They combined for 10 turnovers a piece, throwing picks and fumbling the ball left and right. The Bills had success getting the ball to rookie C.J. Spiller as he spelled Fred Jackson in big situations and came up with some crucial runs.

The Bengals found themselves down a touchdown late in the game and things were looking grim. Mike Teel had looked awful all day, the offense had not been able to get anything going. Then something clicked. Teel led the team all the way down the field and put the team in position to send the game to over time. The game came down to 1 play on 4th down in which Teel found Antonio Bryant wide open for the game tying touchdown with just over a minute left. This tied the game at 21 and sent the game to over time. The Bills won the toss and received first, but coughed the ball up giving the Bengals great field position. It only took one play for Cedric Benson to have another MVP defining moment. Benson broke free for the game winning 34 yard touch down run. Cincinnati managed to escape with the 27-21 victory. The Bengals head to New York on Thanksgiving night for a matchup of two 8-2 teams who both look to be headed for the playoffs. This game is also a rematch from the playoffs last year in which the Jets went into Cincinnati and won. Revenge is on the mind of every single Bengal. Carson Palmer is also returning from injury, ending Mike Teel’s short stint as a starter.
