UFC-SF 4: Shogun v Cavalcante
Shogun Captures Title with 5th Round TKO. Alvarez KO's Penn
(Left) Shogun Rua stands victorious after his TKO victory | (center) Shogun standing over Cavalcante prior to TKO | (Right) Eddie Alvarez after securing the KO victory
Recap:
Shogun Rua def. Rafael Cavalcante in 5th round by TKO for Light Heavyweight championship
This was an absolute battle. Both guys could've won this fight, but, the leg kicks Rua landed slowed down Cavalcante's pace and Shogun finally scored a knockdown in the 5th round before finishing the fight with a flurry of punches. FIGHT OF THE NIGHT!!!
Eddie Alvarez def. BJ Penn via KO in 3rd round
Eddie Alvarez was just too fast for BJ Penn. His also outboxed Penn who looked...slow at times. Alvarez likely becomes the #1 contender for the lightweight title and earns a shot at the winner of the Frankie Edgar and Gilbert Melendez bout.
Jason Miller def. Tim Kennedy via Kimura submission in 2nd round
Kennedy scored two takedowns early in the first round surprising Miller. Miller kept his distance and chose his spots to strike. Showing tremendous patience throughout the first round, Miller eventually shot for a takedown in the second round, moved to side control and locked in the Kimura for the submission victory.
Roger Gracie def. Kevin Randleman via Kimura submission in 2nd round
Chalk another submission win up for the Gracie family legacy. This time Roger Gracie was doing the damage as he out-manuevered wreslter Kevin Randleman on the ground and effortlessly locked in a Kimura for the submission victory.

Thanks for following. Good to have you and Rob reading. Feel free to send suggestions at any time. As for Aoki and Penn, it can happen, but, now it'll have to wait due to Penn's KO loss. IRL, I am thinking he would have at least a 60 day suspension before training could begin. I'm thinking it would be 5-6 cards before I could get Penn v Aoki set-up.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

Yeah, Alvarez's speed, in game, really surprised me and took me by surprise.
Cool thanks for following. Never had one of my 'chises be considered one of the "best."
Appreciate you following. Again, I'm relatively new to the fight game having only followed since UFC 94 - so I don't take offense and encourage you guys to give me ideas on fights. Like I said early on though, as the 'chise moves forward, names won't matter as much as records. So if someone like Lesnar loses 3 fights in a row, he'll have to work his way back up in the heavyweight division.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

Shane Carwin on the Shelf with Back Injury
Shane Carwin was looking to shoot back up to the top of the heavyweight division - that quest will have to be put on hold
***credit mmajunkie.com***
A back injury and expected surgery have forced Shane Carwin out of his speculated future bout with Brett Rogers.
After dealing with back pain, the former title challenger underwent an MRI on Monday that detected an injury that "may really require surgery," he wrote on his official website, shane-carwin.com.
UFC-Strikeforce Entertainment, LLC officials have not announced his withdrawal from the active roster of fighters.
With ample time available, UFC-Strikeforce officials likely will find a replacement for the Carwin-Rogers fight. Theoretically, fighters Cain Velasquez and Roy Nelson are options. So, too, is Frank Mir, who's coming off a September win over Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (prior to the UFC-Strikeforce merger).
"If the doctors do not have to perform surgery, then I will be out eight to 12 weeks," Carwin wrote. "If they do have to perform surgery, I do not know how long I will be out of action.
"I was really looking forward to fighting again, and obviously, this is a very disappointing turn of events."
Carwin stated that he struggled with the decision but ultimately decided he needs to be fully healthy to compete in the UFC-Strikeforce organization.
"This is a hard decision but the right one, and I hope Team Carwin can stand by me through this period of my career," he wrote. "No one wants to get me back to winning more than me. I just need to be healthy to do it."
Carwin hasn't fought since UFC 116, when he suffered a second-round submission loss to then-heavyweight champ Lesnar. Carwin nearly ended the fight in the first round with a vicious barrage of punches, but Lesnar survived and then capitalized on a quickly fading Carwin to secure a fight-ending arm-triangle choke. Prior to the loss, the former interim champ had posted 12 consecutive wins, all of which came via first-round stoppage.
The heavyweight division is loaded with talent which makes Carwin's injury that much more detrimental to his title aspirations. However, Carwin is correct in stating that he must be healthy to compete at the highest level.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

Liddell: "I'm Done."
Longtime MMA veteran Chuck Liddell announces his retirment
With John Hackleman flanking him to the right and Dana White to his left, MMA veteran Chuck Liddell announced his retirement from mixed martial arts and UFC-Strikeforce on Tuesday.
"I just think it's time I stop fighting and focus on other aspects of the sport," Liddell said.
Liddell plans on working with longtime friend John Hackleman on training current fighters and up-and-comers in the UFC-Strikeforce brand.
"Chuck's done a lot for this sport," UFC-Strikeforce President Dana White said. "He'll still be around - so he's not going anywhere, he just won't be battling in the cage anymore."
Liddell ends his career with a loss to bitter-rival Tito Ortiz and a loss via TKO to fellow vet Rich Franklin. Some have also questioned whether or not Liddell left due to the rampant speculation that UFC-Strikeforce is planning on going global and hosting shows in Brazil and Japan and even adopting Vale Tudo rules for international fight cards.
"Absolutely not true," Liddell said. "I'm not afraid of any type of rules or fights...I just felt it was time to move on. I haven't performed very well in my last handful of fights and I don't see a reason to keep trying to recapture something that is likely gone for good."
Liddell ends his MMA career with a record of 21-9-0 and as a former light heavyweight champion on multiple occasions.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

Thanks for following! Hoping to get this done tonight or tomorrow morning. Depends on how my night goes. I still have to watch this past week's episode of Dexter. Plus, TUF and Modern Family are on tonight - so it will either be a really late night or I'll just do it in the morning.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008
