    Grizzlies Blowout Wolves In Minny

    Minnesota

In the first the Grizzlies kept on fighting to take a solid lead. Just when they would take a 5 point lead or over the Wolves would come back with a 3 ball from some their sharpshooters. A Mike Miller 3 would leave the Wolves trailing by 4 after 1.

In the second the Grizzlies started to pull away with the lead. OJ Mayo and Rudy Gay played great defense and got some big dunks to spark the Grizzlies. Mike Conley got out of his drought from the first and hit some jump shots along with some circus shots.

In the third the Grizzlies would do more of the same. The T'Wolves would only kill themselves by missing open shots or not taking advantage of oppurtunities. The quarter would open with Rudy Gay hitting a wide open 3 to give the Grizzlies momentumn. Darrel Athur would do a great job guarding Kevin Love and scoring on him too. The Grizzlies would keep up the great work going into the fourth.

In the fourth the Grizzlies bench would play with the Grizz up 20. Marc Gasol would fill it up scoring all of the Grizzlies 33 points in the fourth on 16 of 16 shooting. He kept splitting double teams and dunking over Al Jefferson and Kevin Love and put on a show. He would help the Grizzlies expand their lead to 31 to win the game.

Vikings Edge Out Chargers for Super Bowl

Picture: Brad Childress is seen here coaching his team to a victory. (Pic thanks to Yahoo Sports)

Minneapolis, Minnesota - The Vikings and Chargers fought this battle out for the Super Bowl title. It was a tough game for both sides throughout the entire game. In the 3rd quarter, the Vikings went for a 2 point conversion that would be the eventual game winner. Tarvaris Jackson dropped back for a throw and dumped it off to Adrian Peterson who got into the endzone for a successful conversion.

James couldn't solve San Antonio's stifling defense and the pick-and-rolling Spurs, as fundamental and selfless as ever, outclassed Cleveland in an 85-76 victory in Game 1 on Thursday night.

Tim Duncan had 24 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks, and Tony Parker added 27 points and seven assists for the Spurs, who began their quest for a fourth championship since 1999 with a defensive clinic on James and the Cavs, making their first appearance in The Finals.

With the eyes of Texas, a curious hoops nation and the world upon him, the 22-year-old James, who has rarely failed to rise to any occasion, flopped like never before.

James shot just 4-of-16 from the field and finished with 14 points and six turnovers in 44 exhausting minutes. Led by Bruce Bowen, their top defensive agitator, the Spurs grounded Cleveland's soaring superstar.

"If I went by one guy, another guy stepped up,'' James said. "For us to have a chance to win, I have to play better.''

James' first foray into the finals was hyped in the days leading up to the game as many wondered if he could deliver the way Michael Jordan once did.

                          Game Summary

                          1st Quarter

The Georgia Dome was hopping as the Lions came out of the tunnel in their alternate silver and black uniforms. The captains went to the center of the field for the toss and would win. The Detroit Lions and their QB Dan Orlovsky would start the season off with the football.

Orlovsky started out with a bang, completing a dump pass that went for ten yards to rookie Kevin Smith. Smith would be the main workhorse on the drive but the Lions would be stopped on three down after a sack. Jason Hanson would easily hit the field goal to put Detroit up 3-0. The Lions joy was shortlived as on the first play of the Falcons drive, Matt Ryan's first NFL throw went for six as he hooked up with Harry Douglas who juked the defenders out of their shoes and went 72 yards to paydirt.3-7 On the very first play of the next drive Orlovsky was looking deep for Calvin Johnson but instead was picked by safety Eric Coleman who ran 20 yards downfield before being tackled. The quarter would end with the Falcons driving in Lions territory.

                          3
                          7

                          2nd Quarter

Michael Turner hurt himself on the very next play and trainers announced he was done for the game with what looked like a strained pectoral. Turner's backup-Jerious Norwood- would be stopped two row before taking a handoff off tackle for an easy 10 TD run.3-14 The Lions would be forced to punt on the next drive so Ryan had the ball again. Ryan would throw to Norwood but good defense stopped the runner at the one and forced the Falcons to settle for a FG.3-17 Again, on the first play of the drive Orlovsky was looking for Johnson but was picked, this time by Brent Grimes, giving the Falcons good field position. Ryan was sacked twice in a row forcing a Falcons FG from 42 yards but Jason Elam calmly hit it.3-20

                          Score
                          3
                          20

                          3rd Quarter

The Falcons would start with the ball since the Lions started the game with it. Ryan would drive the Falcons down the field and the drive would end with a 43 yard Elam FG.3-23 Everytime on the next drive the Lions looked like they were in a hole, Johnson would come up with clutch third down receptions, thanks to Johnson the Lions scored their first touchdown of the season courtesy of Jerome Felton.10-23

                          Score
                          10
                          23

                          4th Quarter

Ryan would lead the Falcons down the field but again they had to settle for an Elam FG.10-26 Avieon Cason would give the Lions good field position as he took the kickoff to midfield. The Lions would go for it on 4th and 23 but wouldn't convert which effectively ended the game. The Lions never quit and on the next drive Ernie Sims made a play that will change the Falcons season. Sims came on the blitz and hit Ryan unawares from behind ending his season because of a ruptured disk. Elam would hit another FG on the next play. 10-29 Orlovsky would be picked on the first play by Lawyer Milloy and the Falcons would end the game on kneel downs.

                          Final Score
                          10
                          29

                          Final Analysis

The Lions' offense was terrible. Plain embarrassing. The Lions D kept the team from being destroyed, holding Elam to six field goals. Ernie Sims was a man child injuring the Falcons two best players during the same game.

Wolves Overcome Slow Start (again) to Win on the Road

Al Jefferson's 2nd Straight Double-Double (18 points, 10 rebounds) helped down the stretch

Fans, experts, and just about everyone else thought this game was going to be a blowout. The Nuggets, coming off their first loss of the season, were looking to rebound against the not-so-great Timberwolves. Well, maybe I'm wrong about the Wolves being not-so-great. As it would turn out, the T-Wolves started out with another poor 1st quarter, then quickly rebounded to outscore the Nuggets the rest of the way. "This is almost a mirror image of what happened to us last game," said Sebastian Telfair, who had 15 points and 11 assists to help Minnesota, "We started off badly, and then played well the rest of the game." "Maybe they're for real," said Chauncy Billups, who was 3rd on the Nuggets in scoring with 15 points.

The Timberwolves end the week on a 2 game winning streak.
