When I see your defense I definitely see potential. I did notice Darrelle Revis' 13 production rating though.

        WEEK 1
        Jets (0-0) @ Dolphins (0-0)

        Pregame:

The Dolphins like to pass a ton 66% of the time. This is a great thing for me because this strategy doesn't really match the talent on their roster. Their best offensive threat is Ronnie Brown, while their QB is John Beck. Ginn and Dante Stallworth aren't a huge concern at WR. Their D is awful but they do have Joey Porter and picked up Asante Samuel in the offseason.

        Jets Injuries:
        Kris Jenkins out 1-3 weeks.

        Game

Dolphins wear down Phins, score 21 2nd half points.
        Jets 28, Dolphins 11.

        Jets Offense

Brad Smith 10-16 128 yards 1 TD, 47 rush yards
        McFadden 19 carr 93 yards
        T Jones 10 carries 73 yards 2 TD
        Coles 2 car 76 yards 1 TD, 4 Rec 55 yards 1 TD

        Jets Defense
        Lofton 7 tackles
Justin Miller 1 sack, 1 INT, 1 deflection
Revis 9 rec yards allowed, 2 delections

        Dolphins
        Beck 14-29 162 yards 1 TD 1 INT
        Brown 16 car 75 yards
        Ginn 4 rec 64 yards 1 TD

        Notes:
Pretty much the ideal game for my team. I had four players contributing in the rushing game. Coles turned an end around into a ~80 yard TD early in the second half. Smith looked good, actually leading a 2 min drive before HT to set up a score. McFadden carried most of the early load while Jones put the Phins away with two fourth quarter TDs.

              WEEK 2
              Pats (1-0) @ Jets (1-0)

              Pregame:

Pats are one of the more dangerous teams in this game. Brady to Moss is obviously a problem, but they have good complimentary players like Welker and Maroney. On defense they have a ton of solid vets and added OLB Keith Rivers with a top 10 pick. Rivers was the highest rated LB in the past draft.

              Jets Injuries:
              Kris Jenkins out 1-2 weeks.
TE Eric Johnson out 3-5 weeks.
              LB Chatham out 1 week.

              Game

Moss shines as Pats rout Jets
              Patriots 37, Jets 7

              Jets Offense

Brad Smith 5-11 45 yards 2 INT fumble
              McFadden 20 ar 70 yards

              Jets Defense
              No one showed up

              Patriots

              Brady 21-33 279 yards 5 TD, 5 diff rec
              Maroney 15 car 74 yards
Moss 5 rec 92 yards TD

              Notes:
I started off sacking Brady on back to back plays but after that it was over. My offense never got anything going and Brady torched my D throwing a TD to 5 different receivers. Moss embarrassed Revis all day and Maroney killed me while I focused on the pass.

                WEEK 3
                Jets (1-1) @ Chargers (1-1)

                Pregame:

Chargers have the best overall RB in the game and they run the ball 63% of the time. They also have a solid passing attack making it tough to focus solely on Tomlinson.

                Jets Injuries:
                Kris Jenkins out 1 week.
TE Eric Johnson out 2-4 weeks.

                Game

Tomlinson, Chargers beat Jets at their own game
                Chargers 40, Jets 21

                Jets Offense
                Clemens 4-6 72 yards 1 TD 1 INT
                McFadden 16 car 71 yards 2 TD
                W Wright 5 rec 78 yards 1 TD

                Jets Defense
                No one showed up

                Chargers

                Rivers 11-22 182 yards 2 TD
                Tomlinson 27 car 215 yards 2 TD
                Chambers 6 rec 79 yards 2 TD

                Notes:
Both teams run an ton and use the 3-4 but SD was a lot better at it. I couldn't stop Tomlinson all day and Revis was lost vs Chambers. Starting to get concerned since he's my best defensive player and is getting torched every week.

My offense was awful for the second straight game. I tried using Clemens but he just wanted to chuck balls into coverage all game. The only bright spot was Wallace Wright, I never paid attention to him but he produces whenever I can get him the ball.

Both of these WRs have been early surprises for me.

Swain was a throwaway 6th rounder my GM suggested.
                  88 potential
                  91 athletic
                  90 size

Wallace Wright was originally the 5th or 6th WR on my depth chart is now the 3rd or 4th.
                  86 potential
                  90 athletic
                  92 size

Neither player is good at catching but they're athletic which very important in my offense. They're awful learners with poor intangibles but they're young and cheap. WR isn't a coveted position on my team so it's nice to have two inexpensive options for the future. Right now Coles is one of the highest paid players on my team and is looking more and more expendable.

                    Cardinals (0-3) @ Jetss (1-2)

                    Pregame:

Weak offense strong defense. They have a balanced attack and skilled players in: Warner, James, Boldin, Fitz. My #1 goal is to slow down their offense and force a low scoring game. Their defense is suspect and I should be able to control the ball and run at will.

                    Jets Injuries:
TE Eric Johnson out 1-2 weeks.

                    warner 13-24 1 td 1 int 148 yards

                    Notes:
This one slipped away. They scored on a kickoff return, an interception return and had a late garbage TD. Other than that my D did it's job. James did have 171 yards but I still feel I had their offense in check.

The problem again was my own offense. McFadden has continued to look good but I'm not getting enough production. It's leading to my D being on the field entirely too much.

                      Defensive Focus
                      What's wrong with Revis?

                      :noidea:

Jet's pass defense has been terrible both in the preseason and first four games. Revis surprisingly is a big part of it. Of the 462 rec yards that can be attributed to any defender, Revis is accountable for 218 or ~47% of them. (Note I messed up on the pie chart oops.) He's also given up completions on a high % of passes that were thrown at him. Last he's failed to grab any interceptions.

This doesn't make any sense considering how good he is. And considering that other Jets CBs Miller/Smith are a lot worse but have played better. So what's the issue?

-Lack of playbook knowledge and poor playcalling. The team is still implementing a new defense, and it doesn't help that I call poor plays at times. I also let the DC call the play every now and then even though he's a moron.

-Lack of a pass rush. Anyone can get open with enough time and my DL/OLBs have failed to hurry the opposing QB.

-Scared to use press coverage. It seems like everytime I press one of my CBs or safeties gets burnt. This hurts Revis as he's good at pressing but I haven't been able to utilize it much.

I'm going to start pressing more and altering my gameplanning/playcalling to get Revis in better situations.

                        Quarterly Update PT2

                        Offense Focus
                        Offensive confusion and inefficiency

My offense has been very inefficient so far:
34% 3rd down conversions (2nd worst in league)
                        60% redzone scoring (3rd worst)

The main reason is there's no consistency at the QB spot. The Brad Smith experiment is not going well so far. He isn't skilled enough at reading defenses to make plays with his arm consistently. He struggles in third and long and any must-pass situation.

Clemens off the bench is just as bad. He's a standard pocket passer but has not impressed when given the opportunity.

I'm not sure what the solution to this is other than keeping Smith in good situations. Which means not asking him to make tough throws and avoiding third and long.

My kicker Nugent has also been bad missing a few FGs. This can't happen considering how few scoring opportunities I'm getting.

                          TRADE

Jets trade QB Chad Pennington to Bears for DE Alex Brown. Bears also receive a future 6th round draft pick.

                          ---------------

                          Positives for Bears:

They are 0-4 and have a messed up QB situation. They have a QB of the future in Joe Flacco but he's not ready. Right now Grossman is getting starts but playing terribly. Pennington will be their best QB and Flacco should be ready by the time his contract expieres.

They also get a future draft pick, guessing they wanted this to offset Pennington's salary.

                          Positives for me:
                          Good enough to immediately start
Shorter contract and less expensive than Peterson

                          Negatives:
                          Injury concerns
                          Not a long term solution
doesn't know PB at all and is below avg learner

                          ---------------------------

I've been trying to get rid of Pennington since beginning of the off-season. Bears were the only team willing to open negotiations.

                              Jets 31, Raiders 3.

                              Jets Offense

                              Smith 11-18 3td 1 INt

                              W Wright 3 rec 86 yards td

                              Jets Defense
                              Rhodes 6 tackles 2 tfl 4 deflection
Revis 1 catch allowed, 1 INT TD

                              Raiders
                              A Walter 11-28 131 yards 1 TD
                              L Washington 15 car 16 yards
                              A Caldwell 3 rec 67 yards

                              Notes:

Everything worked. Revis got his first INT of the year and took it back for a TD. Brad Smith three for 3 TD passes. Raiders offense was just non-existent and I controlled the game throughout.

DB/KR Justin Miller wants a long term deal.

During the first round of negotiations he asked for 6 years 17M plus he wanted a signing bonus. So I just left the room. I'm sure he'll ask again but I'm not sure if I want to keep him or not. He's grabbed a few INTs and is a skilled KR/PR but..

                                Potential 84

He can turn into an OK cornerback, but there's no guarantee he'll get there. He seems really dumb.

                                Obviously a super gifted athlete.

His head is empty and he has an asshole personality.

Hasn't done anything to warrant a long term deal.

                                OK learner.

He'll be the 4th best cornerback in FA this year, assuming other players don't get resigned. Debating whether to re-sign him, wait to FA and see if I can get a better price / shorter deal... or let him walk completely.
