    Offseason goals:

-Revamp DL. Need players that aren't injury prone and/or overpaid. My DL got bitched around all last season.
-Look for new QB. Brad Smith is young and has some potential but he makes the worst decisions. I need some competition for him and I don't like Kellen Clemens.
-Upgrade OLB. Mitchell is fine on one side but I need another one.

    Starting salary cap 19M

    Notable Jets hitting FA
    SS Kerry Rhodes
    CB Justin Miller

Rhodes is coming back for sure, Justin Miller depends on what other teams offer him.

    Cut dead weight
DE Alex Brown cut saving 3 M
OLB Bryan Thomas cut saving 4.81M

Won't miss either of them. Wasn't going to commit long term to Brown and I need someone better than Thomas. Money I save here will likely be used on Rhodes.

    FA Strategy
Focusing on bringing back my own players and some smaller signings. Not going after any big names.

    Draft:
    9th overall

      Free Agency

      Franchise Tag:
      SS Kerry Rhodes

He'll make 5.7M this year while I figure out what to give him longterm.

      Trade
      Jets Receive: DE Victor Abiamiri
Eagles Receive: 6th round pick and future 4th

Guy just made the probowl no idea why Eagles had him on the block. He's young, 6'5 271 pounds. Proven player probably better than what I'd find in the 6th round anyway.

      Free Agents signed
CB bobbie browning 5 yr 9.5 1M bonus
TE ben troupe 2 yr 6.5m 1.5 bonus
LB Tyjuan Hagler 2 yr 3.8 mil .5M bonus
OL mark levoir 1 year .7M
LB Julius wilson 1 year .8M
DT Isaac Spoaga 1 yr 1.6M .25M bonus

I picked up Browning late last season and liked what I saw,. Resigned him as a backup plan after I failed to get Miller. Cowboys gave him 4 years 13 million which was more than I wanted to spend. Browning is young and has some upside.

The rest were just cheap signings to fill some holes. Didn't go after any of the big name players.

        Draft

1st round LE Doki Somanu (traded down)
        6'8 325 from pitt
Guy is huge, can play anywhere on the d-line and has great potential.

        2nd round QB Noah Wyoming
        6'3 225
Strong arm, some mobility and a lot of upside. Not the ideal fit I want but was too good to pass up. Will challenge for the starting job immediately.

        2nd round OLBSammy Hampton
        5'10 223
He's way undersized but is good in other areas. Kind of a project and not sure what I'm going to do with him, but we'll see.

        3rd round RB JaJuan Gales
        6'1 244 pound
Very fast for someone his size. Can run over, past and thru people. Has poor vision and isn't very smart though, another project. Hoping he can develop some and turn into a weapon.

        4th round TE Sammy Barnes
        6'4 247
Excellent potential and good overall player. Not the best blocker, but should turn into a threat in the passing game.

        5th round CB Darick Gordon
        5'8 178
Good learner and athletic. We'll see.

        7th round WR Terry Traywick
        6'4 210
        Great size, dumb though.

        7th round OLB Armond Emannual
        6'2 233

          UDFA

          WR Will Peterson OSU

          Excited about him. Why?

          6'3 211 pounds, 98 speed, 99 acceleration, 99 jump, 97 agility

No idea how he didn't get drafted. He's really raw but was easily the best undrafted player available.

          C riley c sacred heart
          D mizell de/olb arkansas

          Camp Invites

QB Rex Grossman. Cut from the Bears after playing terribly last season. I only have two QBs that are locks to make the roster so he has a chance.

DE Derrick Harvey. Not sure what happened with him, he was drafted by Arizona then let go after one year.

          Trade

Shaun Ellis to Jags for 5th rounder and future 6th.

              Preseason / Training Camp

              First cut
              QB Kellen Clemens
              LT Oldenberg

Wanted to trade Clemens but it never happened.

              Trade
WR cotchery traded to raiders for 6th and future 6th

Raiders are my favorite trade partner. He'll be their best WR and gets to play in a pass happy offense. He was not in my longterm plans and I have a lot of young cheap wrs.

First Game: Panthers 7, Jets 0

              2nd cuts
              QB Rex Grossman
              DT babbitt
              C riley
              LB kassell

Grossman got injured and will miss the rest of preseason so he'll never get a chance to prove himself. Cutting him leaves me with 3 QBs: Smith, Wyoming and a young project player.

Second Game: Bills 24, Jets 7

              3rd cuts
              S Matra
              CB Whitaker
              TE Fletcher
              WR Stuckey

Third Game: SF 14 Jets 7

              4th cuts
              C Connoly
              HB J gales
              G Moore
              DT Evans
              DT Rayburn

              Signed OLB Mike Humpal

Disappointed in Gales but my backfield is crowded and he didn't show anything.

              4th game KC 27 Jets 0

              Final Cuts
              TE dinkins
              DE mizell
              LB Humpal

                  Unit by Unit

                  QBs
Weak. Brad Smith still trying to become a real QB and Wyoming is just a rookie.

                  RBs
Strong. #1 Rushing attack last season. McFadden has a year under his belt and Jones is a solid backup. Also have some young prospects with potential.

                  WRs/TEs
OK. Swain/Petersen/Wright are all young but have room to develop. Coles is a good vet. Have Troupe and a nice rookie at TE.

                  OL
Prob my bets unit overall. Ferguson/Gross holding down the outside. Mangold in the middle. Noll and Woody are also good guards.

                  DL
Improved a lot from last year. Have Abiamiri who is coming off a probowl. Somanu/Harvey who are both young and have a lot of talent. Kris Jenkins is an injury risk but have good depth behind him.

                  LBs
Problem. Harris is a monster and Mitchell is OK. After that it's a dropoff. Lofton is sort of a misfit, he's not bad just doesn't stand out. I failed to upgrade the other OLB spot and have a bunch of mediocre players vying for it.

                  DBs
Solid aside from the #2 CB spot. Revis/Rhodes/Hamlin all good. Need Smith/Browning/??? to contribute and stop other teams #2s and #3s.

                  ST
OK. Not too worried about this.

                  Players with expiring deals

Brad Smith - will be his first QB contract, depends on what he wants
                  N Mangold - coming back
                  K Rhodes - almost 100% coming back
D harvey - not sure depends on play
L Coles - most likely gone

Defense looked a lot better managed to shut down Lynch (including a goal line stand where he ran 3 straight times.) Faulk impressed, he's not that talented but has very good vision which made him lethal behind the blocking he was getting. Smith was OK, just locks on to Coles every throw.

Both of my QBs got time in this game, Smith pissed me off with his usual bad decision making. McFadden also got banged up again.

                          Notes:

Both offenses were horrible. Brad Smith fumbled the ball, I got mad subbed him in at WR and he fumbles again after a catch. I had the ball late driving for the game winning QB but could only get to the 18.

For some reason this team always gives me problems.

                            Notes:

My offense didn't really do anything in this game which isn't a huge surprise considering this was my rookie QB's first start. Reason I won this game was my defense being able to confuse Brady. I forced him into 4 turnovers including 2 INTs that were returned for TDs.

I took a 30-14 lead early in the 4th and they started to mount a comeback. First they returned a fumble for a TD (and scored the 2pt conversion), then Brady easily drove down the field on me. I managed to stop the 2pt conversion this time giving me a 30-28 lead. They got the ball again near the end and were already on my side of the field when Revis tipped a ball and Rhodes intercepted it.

Big game they blew me out twice last season.

Was a defensive battle. I didn't manage t score a TD until late in the 4th. OT they win the coin toss and their kick returner fumbles it. I recover run a few times and kick the game winner.
