These guys aren't anything very spectacular but they fill some needs that we'll need down the road. I don't think it is really a big deal that we only have gotten three commitments because there aren't really very many openings on the roster. But I will probably target recruits next season, just not actually do the recruiting.

Championship Weekend
#10 Virginia Tech (11-1) vs #1 Clemson (12-0)
Chris: Welcome to Tampa, Florida for the ACC Championship between Virginia Tech and the top ranked Clemson Tigers. [crowd cheers] We thought that there might be a little more riding on this game for both teams a few weeks ago but the Hokies failed to show up against North Texas in one of the biggest upsets of the season. [some boos and cheers in the crowd] But the Hokies can still win the conference and get into a BCS bowl with a win today. For the Tigers, a win sends them to Miami to play in the BCS Championship presumably against undefeated USC. Now if Clemson were to lose, then it would likely be USC versus BYU in the championship. So as a result the other conference championships do not have an impact on the national picture but it is still big to win the conference. So we'll get to previewing the other championships around the nation today and make our picks when we come back.
SEC Championship
#13 LSU (11-1) vs #8 Tennessee (11-1)

Big-12 Championship
#7 Nebraska (11-1) vs #6 Oklahoma (11-1)
Kirk: OU Lee: OU
Chris: No love for the Cornhuskers. I think you guys are both underestimating the Huskers. The Sooners barely beat Florida Atlantic. But that brings us to the ACC Championship. Kirk, you're up first.
Kirk: Clemson comes into the game ranked number one with probably the best QB in the nation, Kyle Parker and one of the best tailbacks in the nation, HB Scott Thomas. Both of these guys are on the Heisman watch list and deservedly so. The NFL can not wait to get their hands on Parker. He's already slated as the No. 1 pick in the draft. [camera shows a "Kyle Parker for Heisman" sign as the Clemson fans scream in the background] As a result, the Tigers have the top scoring offense in the nation. But they also have the 2nd best defense and are 1st in turnover differential. I see no reason why Clemson does not win today. I really don't think it will even be close. [mixed reaction from the crowd]
Lee: Those are all excellent points. If Virginia Tech didn't blow it against North Texas then we would all have more praise for the Hokies. We seem to forget that they were also undefeated and that North Texas is a pretty good team in their own right. Watch out for sophomore VT QB Sam Concepcion. He has only four interceptions this season, along with 28 touchdown passes. I think the young kid plays well today and this will be much closer than the experts think.
Kirk: So coach who are you picking?
Lee: Good question. Everybody is going with Clemson to dominate today so I may as well go with the rest of the crowd. [Lee puts on the Tiger headgear, waves at the crowd, then takes it off.] Forget about it! Not so fast! [Lee throws the Tiger headgear to the ground and puts on the Hokie headgear to stunned crowd with a mixed reaction] Go Hokies!

Championship Weekend
ACC Championship
(1)Clemson Remains Undefeated With 37-17 Dominating Effort Against (10)Virginia Tech
Clem QB Kyle Parker played nearly perfect, scoring three touchdowns to lead the Tigers past the Hokies.
Tampa, FL - Clemson had the ACC Championship in their hands from the start. VT QB Sam Concepcion made an early mistake, throwing an interception on his first pass of the game, which the Tigers quickly capitalized on. Clem QB Kyle Parker would get the Tigers out to a 17-3 lead at halftime. By the end of the 3rd quarter, the Tigers were out in front 30-3. Clem QB Kyle Parker will give Texas WR DJ Grant a run for his money in New York City at the Heisman presentation after this performance. Parker looks like the next Drew Brees with a little more speed. Virginia Tech did seem to wake up in the 4th quarter but it was way too late as the Tigers should be heading to Miami to play USC in the championship.

#24 Pittsburgh (9-3) vs #15 Oregon State (10-2)
Corvallis, OR - Oregon State found out today that they will officially be going to the Sun Bowl for the third time in a row. This time they will play No. 24 Pittsburgh. (Let us hope it is more exciting than the thrilling 3-0 game the two played in real life.) The loss to Arizona State proved to be the deciding factor that kept the Beavers out of the Holiday Bowl for the second year in a row. Because the Sun Devils and the Beavers were tied with a 7-2 conference record, the tie-breaker went to the head-to-head game where ASU defeated Oregon State. Thus the Sun Devils will play Texas Tech in the Holiday Bowl and Oregon State is heading back to El Paso. "I would be less than honest if I were to tell you guys that I'm not a little disappointed in the way our season ended," Mike Riley said. "But going to the Sun Bowl is better than not going to any bowl. Our guys will be ready for what should be a good game." It must be disappointing for Beaver Nation to have to travel to El Paso again but this might be the best matchup of the three games as neither looks to be an overwhelming favorite.

New York, NY - Three players were invited to the Heisman Trophy presentation but in reality it was a contest between Texas WR DJ Grant and Clemson QB Kyle Parker. The Longhorn receiver seemed to be the favorite from the midway point in the season putting up phenomenal numbers all season. But Parker's play down the stretch kept it interesting. However, it came as no surprise when DJ Grant's name was announced as the winner of the Heisman with his 100 receptions, 1335 yards receiving, and 22 touchdowns. Grant also walked away with the Belitnikoff award as the nation's best receiver earlier in the week. Parker went away empy handed, but don't feel too bad for the outstanding QB, as Parker is likely to be the first pick of the NFL draft (99 ovr) and still has an opportunity to give Clemson a national title. Coming in third was Clemson teamate HB Scott Thomas who also came away with the Best Returner award. Rounding out the list was Georgia Tech QB Jaybo Shaw and Wisconsin HB Will Pittman. Shaw was an amazing dual threat QB for the Yellow Jackets who also went away with the Maxwell and O'Brien awards. Badger HB Will Pittman went away empty handed as both Thomas and Pittman were beat out by USC HB Curtis McNeal for the Doak Walker award for the nation's best running back. This marks the first time in four years that a running back has not won the Heisman, and it is the first time in quite a while that a receiver has won the coveted award.Last edited by Emac78; 03-01-2009, 03:25 PM.Comment

Sun Bowl
#15 Oregon State (10-2) vs #24 Pittsburgh (9-3)
El Paso, TX - The Beavers might be starting to think that El Paso is their home away from home when it comes to bowl season, and the city of El Paso might also think that they have a new adopted college football team as this is the third time in a row that Oregon State will play in the Sun Bowl. This time it will be Big East opponent, Pittsburgh, ranked No. 24 which is actually ahead of the Big East champion West Virginia, who will play in the Orange Bowl versus No. 3 BYU. All in all, El Paso had a pretty good little matchup between two balanced teams. The Beavers found out not long before game-time that HB Marvin Quinn would not be able to play in what will be the last of game of his career, still out with the shoulder injury.
The Panthers looked good on the opening possession, as it looked like they might pose a problem for the Beavers' defense. But just as it looked like Pitt would get into the red zone, the OSU defense held. Pitt had to settle for a 51-yard field goal attempt which went wide left. Oregon State did not fare much better on their opening possession and they got the first tough break of the game. The Beavers have already been without their bruising HB Marvin Quinn, but now WR Brian Herring left the game with what looked like some kind of a back injury. The Beavers would attempt a 57-yard field goal that proved to be just out of range of kicker Reggie Smith. Next, Pitt would punt back to Oregon State where finally a play was made. Unfortunately for Oregon State, it was made by the Pitt defense when OSU HB Jacquizz Rodgers was stripped of the ball. It was a fumble and Pitt recovered the ball.

However, the Panthers were held to a three and out, unable to capitalize off the turnover. But the Beavers looked just as bad, punting after their own three and out. But as the first quarter came to an end, the Panthers were on the move into OSU territory.
Pitt would get into the red zone, but the OSU defense held strong, forcing Pitt to settle for a 26-yard field goal to finally get somebody on the board, 3-0 Pitt. The Beavers continued to struggle on offense and QB Bryan Rossner was sacked for a huge loss making it 3rd and 17. That is when Rossner stepped up and threw to WR Bill Faaeteete who caught the ball for a huge first down to finally keep a drive going for Oregon State.
OSU QB Bryan Rossner converts on 3rd and 17 on a 20-yard play to WR Bill Faaeteete.
Not long after the conversion, the Beavers found themselves in the red zone. Where Rossner unable to find anybody open, scrambled into the end zone from seven yards out to put Oregon State on top 7-3.
OSU QB Bryan Rossner puts the Beavers on the scoreboard with a 7-yard touchdown scramble.
The game was finally getting interesting. On the ensuing possession for the Beavers, Rossner stepped up in the pocket and gunned it to WR Alex Whitehead running a slant. The native Oregonian, Whitehead made the catch, eluded the cornerback, and was off to the races where he was able to take it 69 yards to the house. Suddenly the Beavers were now up 14-3 and it would stay that way going into halftime.
OSU WR Alex Whitehead takes it the distance for a 69-yard touchdown reception.
As the third quarter opened, OSU WR Brian Herring made his way back onto the field, which the Beaver fans noticed quickly and cheered their playmaking receiver. Rossner continued the momentum for the end of the first half, leading a beautiful drive down the field. Then finishing it off with a pass to WR Bill Faaeteete in the back of the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown to put Oregon State decisively in front 21-3.
OSU WR Bill Faaeteete catches the pass from Rossner in the back of the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown.
It would not get any better for the Panthers when QB Kellen Stevenson was intercepted by OSU MLB Paul Jones. If Oregon State could capitalize on the turnover, the Beavers could put this one away.
OSU MLB Paul Jones with an interception.
However, the Pitt defense was up to the challenge as Oregon State went three and out but OSU punter Nick Carpenter was able to make a great punt, pinning the Panthers at their own 2-yard line. Pitt QB Kellen Stevenson, feeling the pressure threw downfield off target where OSU FS Matt Arnold made an easy interception. So the Beavers would have another chance to put this one away. But then OSU QB Bryan Rossner was picked off by Pitt MLB Corey Chavez as Rossner was trying to fit a pass into slot receiver Bill Faaeteete. Pittsburgh was given an opportunity but the Panthers were again unable to figure out OSU defensive coordinator Mark Banker's defense as they were forced to punt as the third quarter came to an end.
The Beavers started playing more conservatively, running on first and second downs, but HB Jacquizz Rodgers was unable to keep the drives moving so the Beavers had to punt. The Panthers continued to struggle as they failed on a fourth down attempt near midfield that all but ended this game. However, OSU kicker Reggie Smith was able to tack on a strong legged 52-yard field goal to make it 24-3 OSU. On the final possession, the Panthers finally put a drive together which the Beavers' defense was unable to stop. With under a minute left, Pitt QB Kellen Stevenson hooked up with WR Gerald Mills, who caught the ball in the corner of the end zone, a rare mistake by OSU CB Mike Mayes to make the score a respectable 24-10. This was the first touchdown that the OSU defense had given up since Stanford QB Andrew Luck to WR Devin Williams, which was the first quarter of the Stanford game. This means Oregon State held opponents to no touchdowns for 10 consecutive quarters.
Pitt WR Gerald Mills with a 9-yard touchdown reception in the corner of the end zone.
Despite the Pitt touchdown, the game was all but over. Pittsburgh attempted a desperate onside kick but the Beavers recovered. Rossner came out and kneeled on it in the victory formation as the Beavers have beaten another Big East team for their third Sun Bowl victory in a row.
