Game of the Week
#6 Texas (4-0) vs #14 Oklahoma (3-0)
Chris: We are coming to you from the Cotton Bowl for one of the biggest rivalries in all of college football, Texas and Oklahoma. (Loud response of the crowd) As usual the stakes are high. Only the Big-12 South and BCS positioning are on the line. Both teams have looked great thus far so we should have a good one today. Maybe a top ten team might even fall this weekend.
But there's also a huge SEC game today between LSU and Florida down in Gainesville that we will all have our eyes on. The Gators will try not to get an early 2nd conference loss while LSU will try to show the nation that they are ready to make a title run.
Other Game of the Week
#4 LSU at #16 Florida
Kirk: LSU Lee: LSU
Chris: Well, that brings us to the Red River Rivalry. Make your picks guys.
Kirk: I really don't see how you can't go with Texas. This offense is just ridiculous. First of all, the Longhorns have fourth-year junior QB Adam Moore (93 ovr) who has just been playing terrific football. He already had 11 touchdown passes and only one interception. Talking to the scouts, he has a chance to be something special at the next level. He has all of the physical tools. Then the Longhorns have third-year sophomore HB Mike Martin (92 ovr) who has already gained 534 yards on the ground along with five touchdowns. Not to mention Martin also has over 300 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions. (Camera zooms in on Texas fans holding up a "Martin for Heisman" sign) In addition, Texas boasts two of the best young receivers in the game. Junior WR Ryan Oliver (90 ovr) and true freshman WR Lamar McCauley (87 ovr). It is difficult to see how anybody will stop this offense. I haven't even mentioned the defense which has very few holes and is led by one of the best LBs in the game, OLB Willie Walton (97 ovr). So I'm clearly going with the Longhorns in a rout. (Loud mixed reaction)
Lee: Kirk, you are forgetting just how good Oklahoma is. They aren't going to get walked all over by their hated rivals. No way. The Sooners have a tailback that I really like and I think he is one of the most underrated players. That is HB Scott Buckles (96 ovr). He's also got over 500 yards on the ground and four touchdowns. I look for him to be a factor today for Oklahoma. Then on defense, they are led by an outstanding MLB Michael Meade (94 ovr). But where the Sooners might find themselves in trouble is in the trenches. Their pass protection has struggled to keep QB Darren Lane (88 ovr) off his back. And their DTs are not the best. But this one will be closer than the experts think. (Lee puts on a Sooner Schooner hat to a loud mixed reaction from the crowd) Boomer Sooner! Go Oklahoma!

Cal (3-1) at #10 Oregon State (3-0)
Corvallis, OR - Oregon State's early patsy schedule is finally over and in comes the California Golden Bears who's only loss came against USC. Cal boasts one of the best QBs in the conference in Sam Russell. If the Golden Bears wanted to have any chance at winning in hostile Reser Stadium for the Beavers' home opener, Russell would have to play well.
Unfortunately, Russell could not have gotten off to a worse start as he threw an ill-advised pass into double coverage where OSU FS Scott Vinson came up with an easy interception, igniting an already excited crowd. The Beavers took advantage of the good field position when HB Tim Taylor scored from one yard out to put Oregon State on top 7-0.
An interception by OSU FS Scott Vinson sets up a 1-yard touchdown run by HB Tim Taylor.
Cal would look no better, going three and out on their next possession but at least they did not turn over the ball. The Beavers looked like they were about to score again as they quickly moved into the red zone, but QB Justin Rust was picked off by Cal FS Byron Smith. Then the Golden Bears suddenly got in rhythm and marched the length of the field where QB Sam Russell connected with WR Curtis Justice in the corner of the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown reception to tie the game 7-7.

The tide seemed to be turning as now the Beavers struggled on offense with their own three-and-out. As the 2nd quarter got underway, Cal had a good looking drive going until Russell was intercepted by OSU CB Deon Weatherford who took it all the way back for a pick-six, regaining the lead for Oregon State 14-7.
OSU CB Deon Weatherford with a pick-six.
Cal QB Sam Russell would continue to struggle as we would throw a horrendous pass that was picked off by OSU SS Courtney Smith. But then OSU QB Justin Rust was picked off by Cal CB David Booth who returned it all the way for a pick-six of his own to tie the game back up 14-14.
Cal CB David Booth with a pick-six.
Finally, the game would calm down as Oregon State was forced to punt when their drive stalled because of a sack and a holding call. Another penalty would be called on the Beavers on the ensuing punt return for Cal. A facemask was called, bring the Golden Bears deep inside OSU territory. Then backup Cal HB Travis Taylor, a guy the Beavers heavily recruited was able to get to the outside for a 23-yard gain, setting up the Bears at the OSU 5-yard line. On the next play, QB Sam Russell connected with TE Brandon Jame in the flat who got in for a 5-yard touchdown, giving Cal its first lead of the game 21-14.
Cal QB Sam Russell connects with TE Brandon James on a 5-yard touchdown.
The Beavers would be able to get a little something going on offense on the ensuing possession primarily on the ground with HB Tim Taylor, but the drive would stall, setting up a 46-yard field goal to make it 21-17 Cal. On Cal's next possession, the OSU defense would hold Cal to a 52-yard field goal attempt that fell well short of the cross bar. In the closing seconds of the half, OSU QB Justin Rust threw up a prayer on the hail mary but it fell to the turf off of a Cal deflection.
The Beavers would get the ball first to start the 2nd half and right away, HB Tim Taylor would get to the outside behind superb blocking as the entire side of the Cal defensive line was pancaked. Then Taylor received excellent blocking support from WR Brian Horn, who obliterated his CB off the playing field. Taylor broke a tackle and was off to the races as Reser Stadium roareed. The Cal defense could not catch him as he took it to the house on an 81-yard touchdown scamper to put the Beavers back on top 24-21.
With the electrifying run by Taylor, the momentum was fully in the hands of the Beavers. Cal would have their next possession ended when OSU OLB Cole Alexander sacked Sam Russell on 3rd down. But OSU could not do much better as they were also forced to punt. The Golden Bear offense looked a lot better on their next possession though as Russell was able to lead them into the red zone. However, OSU OLB Carlos Matthews would deflect a 3rd down pass. Cal head coach Jeff Tedford would settle for the 24-yard field goal to tie the game 24-24.
Oregon State was in a dogfight and then QB Justin Rust was hurt as he released a pass late. He would miss the rest of the game with an abdominal strain so in came the red shirt freshman QB Ty Moore for his first real game experience besides the garbage time play as the 3rd quarter came to an end.
Moore was not up to the task at hand as he missed a wide open WR Bill Faaeteete running all alone over the middle of the field on 3rd down. The Beavers would be forced to settle for a 42-yard field goal which kicker Reggie Smith drilled through the uprights, giving Oregon State a 27-24 lead.
OSU kicker Reggie Smith with a 42-yard field goal to give the Beavers the lead.
Cal was still in a position to pull of the upset, but the OSU defense came up big as they have all season, forcing a three-and-out. Then the Beavers put a drive together, and QB Ty Moore threw a laser to WR David Baker running a slant in tight coverage. The ball was right on the money and Baker scored on the 14-yard touchdown reception to put the Beavers ahead 34-24 with 3:46 remaining in the game.
OSU QB Ty Moore throws a laser to WR David Baker for a 14-yard touchdown.
The touchdown gave the Beavers some breathing room but the Golden Bears were not done yet. QB Sam Russell was in a groove as he marched his team quickly into the red zone but the drive stalled and Cal was forced to kick a 31-yard field goal to cut the OSU lead to 34-27 with 1:52 left to go.
Now Cal just needed to be successful on the onside kick. The ball was kicked into the turf, bouncing high up in the air, but the Beavers came down with the ball on the onside kick. HB Tim Taylor would get the one 1st down that the Beavers would need to run the clock out and the Beavers escaped with a big conference win in their first competitive game of the season.

Week 6
Red River Shootout
(14)Oklahoma Storms Back to Beat (6)Texas 44-35
OU HB Scott Buckles was the difference maker, scoring three total touchdowns despite leaving the game in the 2nd quarter with a strained back.
Dallas, TX - The Longhorns came into the game on fire and it looked like they would run away with this one in the 1st quarter. Texas QB Adam Moore looked as good as advertised early on as he threw to WR Andrew Alfred for a quick 34-yard touchdown. Later, backup HB Adam Davis would score a 6-yard touchdown, diving across the goal line to put the Longhorns up 14-0. The game appeared over when OU WR Johnny Smith was stripped of the ball by Tex CB Steve Townsend for a Longhorn fumble recovery. But the Sooners got a break when the OU defense held in the red zone, forcing a Longhorn 20-yard field goal that was doinked off the upright. Not long after, OU QB Darren Lane threw to HB Scott Buckles on a swing pass that went the distance for an 80-yard touchdown to cut the Longhorn lead to 14-7.
And then in the 2nd quarter Buckles would score on a 4-yard scamper to tie the game 14-14. Later, Buckles on a punt return would spin by one defender and stiff-arm another, then take it all the way back to the house on a highlight return to give the Sooners their first lead of the game 21-14. But Heisman frontrunner, Texas HB Mike Martin would tie the game up with a 1-yard touchdown scamper to make it 21-21. Unfortunately for Oklahoma and the nation, HB Scott Buckles would leave the game with a strained back so the Sooners would have to do without their superstar tailback. Oklahoma would get a late field goal to regain the lead 24-21 and Texas would miss a last second 42-yard field goal to end the half.
To start the 3rd quarter, the Sooners marched down the field where QB Darren Lane scored on a 1-yard QB sneak to put the Sooners ahead 31-21. And then Texas QB Adam Moore threw and interception that was taken back for a pick-six by OU CB Clint Greenwood to put the Sooners up 38-21. Moore would throw an even more terrible pass on his next possession that was also intercepted, setting up an OU 44-yard field goal to put Oklahoma up 41-21 to start the 4th quarter.
Texas would get back in the game when QB Adam Moore threw a 1-yard touchdown to his FB. And then later, HB Adam Davis would score on a 4-yard toss to cut the Sooners' lead to only 41-35 with 4:20 left in the game. But Oklahoma would use the clock, taking up valuable time and kicking a 32-yard field goal with only :59 left to go in the game, effectively ending the game 44-35.

Game of the Week
#5 Florida State (4-0) at #18 Virginia Tech (5-0)
Chris: We are here in Blacksburg for a major ACC conference game between Florida State and Virginia Tech. We finally had a couple top ten teams fall last week. We've got a great slate of games this weekend as it is Separtaion Saturday. In the Big-12, undefeated Missouri will take on Texas who will be looking to rebound after the loss against rival Oklahoma. Speaking of the Sooners. They will face an undefeated Kansas State team. In the Big Ten, Wisconsin will meet up with Ohio State and in the SEC, the #1 Tennessee Volunteers face off against Georgia. So we have a lot to get to today.
Games of the Week, Separation Saturday
#15 Missouri at #16 Texas

#11 Oklahoma at #25 Kansas State
Kirk: KSU Lee: OU
#23 Wisconsin at #6 Ohio State
Kirk: OSU Lee: OSU
#1 Tennessee at #22 Georgia
Kirk: Tenn Lee: Tenn
Chris: I don't know guys. Georgia could be tough to beat down there in Athens. I'm just saying. So that brings us to this ACC matchup that could very significant nationally. We understand that Erin Andrews has an update on Tech HB Cory Smith. Erin...
Erin: That's right. VT HB Cory Smith (87 ovr) is listed as probable today so he is likely to start for the Hokies today. Also expect sophomore HB Antwan Tanner (86 ovr) to get a significant amount of carries. Smith is more the thunder and Tanner is considered the lightning so to speak. Together they have proved a great one-two punch at the tailback position as the Hokies are 5th in the nation in rushings yards. Chris...
Chris: Thanks for that report Erin. Okay guys. Time to make your picks.
Kirk: I think if the Hokies are going to have any chance at all today, QB Sam Concepcion (94 ovr) will have to have an exceptional game. There is no question he has the talent but he his career has been plagued with injuries. It seems like our crew has a jinx effect against great QBs so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he has a bad game and the Hokies get destroyed by a much faster, bigger, and more talented team. Florida State rolls today. (Crowd boos)
Lee: Kirk, the Hokies aren't that bad and you know that old Frank Beamer will have Virginia Tech ready to play today. That being said, the 'Noles have two incredible receivers. Senior WR Adam Richardson (91 ovr) and a true freshman WR Josh Bryant (89 ovr) who could be something truly special. Along with a great offensive line and one of the best defenses in the nation led by FS Donovan Stewart (97 ovr), the Seminoles are one of the most talented teams in the nation. You know that they have four guys starting on that terrific defense that will playing on Sundays next year. This is a no brainer. (Lee puts on the Seminole headdress and starts doing the warchant as the crowd boos the pick)

Washington State (1-3) at #8 Oregon State (4-0)
Corvallis, OR - Well, Oregon State thought their cupcake schedule had ended when conference play started. Now it is time to play a couple of the bottom feeders of the conference back-to-back. First up is Washington State, a 60 overall rated team that might be one of the worst teams in the nation, and then next week will be winless Washington. This has really become a top-heavy conference with USC and UCLA at the top every year. Occasionally, an Oregon State or Cal might stir things up. Regardless, Reser Stadium was sold out to watch what surely would be an uncompetitive game.
Just as the many teams before them, the Cougars went three-and-out to start the game. But bad news would strike early for the Beavers when HB Tim Taylor left the game. Fortunately, it was just a bruised sternum and would only sideline the playmaking tailback for one quarter. It was thought by many that at the beginning of the year, tailback would be a weakness with last year's Heisman winner, HB Roy Nolen graduated. It has not turned out that way at all. With Taylor out, the OSU drive stalled in the red zone, and Mike Riley settled for a 24-yard field goal to go on top 3-0. Both teams would trade punts for their next possession as this game was looking like a snoozer. But then OSU CB John Biggers came up with an interception, and not long after, HB Derrick Andrews broke a run to the outside and housed a 38-yard run to put the Beavers up 10-0. It almost appers the Beavers can put whoever they want back there and he would be successful.
OSU HB Derrick Andrews with a 38-yard touchdown run.
To start the 2nd quarter, Oregon State would have a drive sputter in the red zone again on their next possession, scoring on a 24-yard field goal to go ahead 13-0. Washigton State's offense could do absolutely nothing. But OSU QB Justin Rust struggled and threw a bad interception to a LB over the middle of the field. Of course it did not matter though since WSU went three-and-out. Finally, Rust would score when the Beavers got into the red zone when he threw to a wide open TE Adam Banks in the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown, giving Oregon State a 20-0 lead.
OSU TE Adam Banks wide open in the end zone for a 2-yard touchdown reception.
OSU CB Deon Weatherford would come up with an interception at the end of the half when WSU QB Chris Harwell attempted a hail mary. The Beavers were in comple command going into the locker rooms at halftime.
Much like last week, out of the break, OSU HB Tim Taylor got loose, side-stepping past defenders, and took for a 55-yard touchdown run making it 27-0.
OSU HB Tim Taylor with a 55-yard touchdown run.
As well as Oregon State was doing as a team, QB Justin Rust was not playing that well as he threw an out pattern late to WR Brian Horn that was picked off by WSU CB Dan Harris for an easy pick-six to put the Cougars on the scoreboard, down 27-7.
WSU CB Dan Harris puts the Cougars on the board with a pick-six.
But the mistake by Rust would be quickly overshadowed by OSU HB Tim Taylor who just made the WSU defense look silly, spinning out of a pile, juking a defender in the open field out of his shoes, and taking it all the way for a 75-yard touchdown run; 34-7 OSU.
OSU HB Tim Taylor makes the WSU defense look silly on a 75-yard touchdown run.
To start the 4th quarter, the Cougars could only take pride in holding Oregon State to a 55-yard field goal attempt. Kicker Reggie Smith had the leg but sailed it to the right. And then it happened. Washington State scored an offensive touchdown when HB Nick Whitaker charged his way in on a 1-yard touchdown to make it 34-14.
WSU HB Nick Whitaker scores an offensive touchdown for the Cougars.
Later, OSU HB Tim Taylor would get loose again for a 38-yard touchdown to give Oregon State a 41-14 lead. The game was clearly over and that would be the last of the OSU starters in this game. However in the closing minutes, backup QB Ty Moore would showcase his arm strength as he threw one deep out in front of WR David Baker who laid out to make a tremendous diving catch despite the play being meaningless to the outcome of the game. WSU head coach Paul Wulff said after the game, "I don't know what in the hell they are doing throwing deep when the game is clearly over. That just shows no class on their part but that kid Baker still made a heck of a catch."

Week 7
(18)Virginia Tech Upsets (5)Florida State 23-20
VT true freshman kicker Nate Davidson with a clutch 35-yard field goal to win the game for the Hokies.
Blacksburg, VA - On a day of many upsets and close calls, it was fitting to finish the night with another upset. Florida State came into the game as clear favorites but it was clear from the beginning that the Seminoles would have their hands full when FSU QB Ryan Johnson threw an interception that set up a Virginia Tech 49-yard field goal for the true freshman kicker Nate Davidson. Later, a VT QB Sam Concepcion to WR Seth King touchdown pass of five yards would put the Hokies up 10-0.
By the 2nd quarter it was apparent that FSU QB Ryan Johnson was rattled. It may have been the crowd noise or a loss of confidence from the early interception, or maybe both. But the Seminoles found themselves down 13-3 at halftime.
Then disaster struck for Florida State when VT WR Seth King took the opening kickoff of the half 95 yards to the house to put the Hokies up 20-3. All that the Seminoles could score in response was a 36-yard field goal to keep it a close 20-6. Later in the game FSU would back up the Hokies inside their own 5-yard line with a great punt. It would force the Hokies to punt from their own end zone where one of the strangest plays in my eight years of NCAA Football occured. VT had so little room to punt that an FSU defender came rushing in and dove to block the punt. It looked like for sure that it would be blocked but the punter somehow was able to stop his kick in mid air and ran it out to the 2-yard line. As a result, FSU HB Adam Harper scored on a 2-yard option run to cut the Hokie lead to 20-13.
Unfortunately, Virginia Tech could not make the plays to keep a drive going as they were getting absolutely nothing from their running game against that talented FSU defense. FSU HB Adam Harper started making some decent runs but QB Ryan Johnson could not make the passes to keep the drives alive. But finally late in the 4th quarter Johnson was able to put a drive together where WR Adam Richardson took a handoff out of the backfield and was in for a 1-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game 20-20 with 1:09 left in the game.
Plenty of time for VT QB Sam Concepcion who in no time threw two strikes to his receivers to get the Hokies into FSU territory. One more clutch pass later to WR Seth King and the Hokies were in position to attempt a 35-yard field goal. True freshman kicker Nate Davidson hooked it but it stayed through the left upright for a game-winning field goal in the closing seconds. Virginia Tech will travel to Clemson next week for what will likely be the game of the week also. If they can beat Clemson, people will have to start taking this team seriously.

Game of the Week
#12 Virginia Tech (6-0) at #5 Clemson (6-0)
Chris: We are here in Clemson for a huge game between two undefeated ACC teams. The winner of today's game has a very real chance at possibly going undefeated. Especially Virginia Tech since they were able to beat Florida State last week. What a week it was last week. Tennesse fell to Georgia in probably the upset of the year so far. Now the SEC is wide open and Auburn is suddenly the only team left standing undefeated but they face a very tough LSU team today. The SEC will be heavily featured even more than normal on today's show as there are three huge games in the conference today. I already mentioned LSU and Auburn. Also, Florida will meet up with Georgia in their annual rivalry game at a time while the Dawgs are riding high after their huge upset last week over Tennessee. Speaking of the Volunteers, they play a very good Alabama team in Knoxville. The top 25 could look very different after today.

Chris: Well, there is our little SEC roundup. Now to to this game guys. Before we get to the picks, I understand that Erin Andrews has an injury update on Clemson HB Chuck Jean...
Erin: Yes. I am being told that junior HB Chuck Jean (87 ovr) should play today. The pain from his pulled groin has subsided and he is ready to go. Jean, who was the nation's top HB prospect this season coming out of a junior college in Louisiana gives Clemson a much more explosive tailback even though HB Dan Satele (78 ovr), who was hyped up earlier in the year, has played well thus far. Clemson head coach Gary Crowton told me definitively that Jean is their guy. Back to you guys...
Chris: Thanks Erin. Ok. Time for your picks.
Kirk: VT QB Sam Concepcion played great last week and what a great win for the Hokies but having that same kind of success here in Clemson is unlikely to happen. The Tigers are tough to beat at home as they have an 18-game winning streak at home. And with HB Chuck Jean back for the Tigers that is all the more reason that they get it done today.
Lee: Kirk, you failed to mention Clemson's superstar OLB Ryan Williams (99 ovr). He might be the next Lawrence Taylor and is likely the number one pick in the upcoming draft. In any case, what a beast this guy is. Williams will make it tough on Concepcion but I think this will be much closer than the experts think. (Lee puts on the Tiger headgear as the crowd cheers)
