Should be interesting with Westbrook starting. Good luck.

Owned!
Pavano pitched a gem, Indians lose.
AP - Cincinnati, OH - Things were looking good, Pavano pitched well. The bullpen took over, the Indians climbed back in it. And then Catcher Ryan Hanigan hit the solo shot that gave the reds a walk off win in game one, of "The Battle". Kerry Wood watched as Choo was unable to reach the ball and the Indians miracle come back was cut short by the solo shot. The Indians struggled to keep runs off of the board, but battled back in the ninth to put three on to tie the game at 6.
"It's frustrating." Said Pavano. "I'm the turn guy, that middle of the order guy that's supposed to turn things around if their going sour. They were after that Kansas City game, real sour. Now the taste is unbearable. Hopefully Jake and Aaron can get us back to winning before Tampa Bay." The Indians are struggling now to get solid wins, one like today would of catapulted them mentally for the road ahead. A roller coaster May however continues.
Tomorrow night is the debut of Jake Westbrook on the mound for the Indians as he tries to turn the tide in this three game series and set up the rubber match for Aaron Laffey. His debut should be a good one, hopefully.

A Losing Battle.
Westbrook Impressed, but with no run support got the loss.
AP - Cincinnati, OH - Oh where, Oh where, have the Indians bats gone? The bats that were so active a series ago have vanished somewhere between Kansas City and Cincinnati and the Indians are continuing the search for them as we speak. After dropping the second game of this series the Indians are looking to bounce back, in any way to salvage this last game before heading back to Cleveland to host AL East Opponents Tampa Bay and New York.
"We've gotta win." said Travis Hafner. "I hate losing to these guys, I hate watching them score runs and we don't I hate watching the Cincinnati fans go home happy. I want to win, I want them to go home disappointed I want to go to Cleveland with a win." Really big guy? Then use your bat. The Indians are still last in the league in home runs this season. They continue to score in less than a third of their hits and slowly what was looking like an upside to an already bad month has made a turn for the worse.
The Tribe prior to this series were climbing back into contention, they've now taken a step back before taking steps forward and face two dangerous opponents over the next eight games at home. To walk out of Cincinnati with a win tomorrow would be a victory for this beaten Tribe. We'll see what Aaron Laffey can do on the mound tomorrow. As for Westbrook? He impressed in his first start of the season, unfortunate though, he didn't get the run support one needs to get a W. The Tribe will try to avoid the sweep against the Reds in their next game tomorrow.

Bats Go Off, Indians Avoid Sweep.
V-Mart's Home Run in the first inning, started the whole thing.
AP - Cincinnati, OH - "I could get used to this fifth spot!" Said Aaron Laffey after the game. Since moving to the fifth spot, Aaron has gotten a win in each of his two starts from the end of the rotation. "In all seriousness, I went out there and tried to win every time I pitched. If I had it my way, I'd be 8-0. That's not the case though, I'm on this team, one way or another. I'm here, and I'm pitching fifth." Laffey proved once again that the decision to keep him on the club hasn't back-fired.
The Indians who struggled in game one and two of this series, finally got a win on Sunday. Which is great heading into their next two match-ups. "We've got Tampa Bay, and then New York. That's a tough back to back four game series. The next eight games are key. Key to getting back in the Wildcard, especially against New York whose ahead of us right now.
The Indians also watched as the White Sox took over the AL Central lead. They've been the hot team as of late and with Detroit finally starting to come back down to Earth, the lead has changed hands in the White Sox favor. Currently Chicago leads Detroit by a half game in the AL Central. The Orioles and Tigers are tied for the AL Wildcard with the Yankees a game back, and the Indians sitting two and half games back.

Key Bank's "Keys to Succes"
1.) Good Pitching - If the Pitching is on, it's safe to say the Indians win. Coming back home after a disappointing trip at the southern end of I71, the Indians are looking to bounce back. They'll be led by their Ace Fausto Carmona, it's key to establish a first game victory, to set the tempo the rest of the series.
2.) Final Six - This series and the first two games of the Yankees series will determine the outcome of the month of May. The Indians wish to end on a high note, they can do that by at least winning this series 3-1.
3.) Don't Scoreboard Watch - Don't pay attention to what Chicago does, The Tribe will have a chance to challenge them later, the Yankees are on deck and the Wildcard race is a key factor to that match-up. They don't need to worry about the White Sox and need to focus on their games against Tampa and New York.25-02, 23:16 Yawkey Way celtics fucking suckComment

Vic Does It Again!
Victor gets it going for the Tribe again, even with broken wood.
AP - Cleveland, OH - Defense decided to take a back seat for game one. Both teams defenses struggled throughout, failure to communicate in the outfield. Failure to turn double plays in the infield. It was ironic that neither team got scored with errors after it was all said and done. One play in particular sticks out when you discuss this game, that being the play by none other than The Indians own right fielder, Shin Soo-Choo.
Choo let an inside the park home run happen when he mis-judged the angle coming on to a fast roller in right field. One that had enough power behind it to roll to the wall and make a dead stop. Normally on passed balls Grady Sizemore is there to back up guys, with Ben Francisco new to center field that was not the case and Choo had to recover on his own. "Tonight, you seen why Grady is missed. If he's out there, that becomes a triple, at best." Said Choo.
That wasn't the only mistake though, Choo was also caught in a run down after being flat footed on a base hit, and on another occasion he was tossed out heading to third, just too slow to get to the bag as he was instructed. "Today was a day I wanted to forget, that's for sure. You have a lot of good days that you don't think about, this game will be with me for awhile."
All mistakes aside the Indians were able to rally in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead and seal the game with Kerry Wood on the mound for his fifteenth save. Hafner, Garko and DeRosa all made it on base when Victor Martinez hit a shot to center field, that dropped just before the wall but took such a nasty nick at the wall bounced well beyond play. Giving Vic his second triple of the year, one that cleared the bases. Peralta would bring him home on a hit, and later in the inning, Ben Francisco would complete the five running fifth.
The only thing nasty to say about the eighth inning was the ejection of Asdrubal Cabrera who reached safely on a base hit that advanced Peralta to third, however, the ump called him out. Cabrera argued, and was ejected. The Indians look to continue their dominance on the Rays as the series continues for three more games in Cleveland.

The Price Is Right For Tampa
Cliff Lee didn't perform as well as his counter-part..
AP - Cleveland, OH - It was a pitchers duel, for three innings anyways. Cliff Lee got rocked for four runs on five hits in the fourth. And David Price kept enough gas in the tank to go nine innings and get the complete game victory against the Tribe. The Indians continue to look for consistency this season, but are finding none. They win, they lose, they hit, they miss, they're hot, they're cold. No happy medium and it's starting to wear on GM Mark Shapiro.
"You know, I've kept my mouth shut and tried to just let things play out. Now it's time to reevaluate this team. I know its the AL Champs but we need to string some wins together." Shapiro has watched his club climb out of the cellar, but just stay in a mediocre third place in the Central while the White Sox climbed past them, and now battle it out for the Central Crown with the Tigers.
"The only thing I can hope for, as a GM is to watch these two clubs at top beat the snot out of each other, and maybe we can sneak in. Right now, the way we're playing, we'll be lucky to even sniff first place, let alone second." When asked if he sees any moves that could be made to better the ball club to achieve this take, Shapiro had this to say. "We continue to shop Travis, he knows that, we know that. We're a couple weeks yet away from getting Kelly back on the field. And we'll have to wait until after the All-Star game to see where Grady is at. We have the pieces, and I could pull the trigger any day. Just have to wait and see.

Indians Eying Willingham?
AP - Cleveland, OH - As the Indians continue their series with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays the series has taken the back burner to trade rumors. Cleveland announced earlier in the season that 1B Travis Hafner, who has struggled the past two season with injuries, might not be the best fit for Cleveland. The past two seasons have been classified as let downs, a loss in the AL Championship to the Boston Red Sox in 07, a 81-81 record in 08. As the past indicates this could be early warning signs for the Indians to cut bait, and start filling holes.
A teams survival in the Major Leagues, goes only as far as it's production from the players. One player, Travis Hafner, has produced a number of RBIs this season, but lacks a real "threat" issue in the middle of the line-up. With decreasing power it might be time for the Indians to say goodbye to Pronk. Who would replace him though? The story out of Cleveland is a possible deal with the struggling Nationals.
Since they acquired Josh Willingham from the Florida Marlins, Willingham has been upset. The Nationals were supposed to be a team on the rise, however, they've been a team floundering in a tough division where the Atlanta Braves have awaken to answer the call of their 1990's dominance and return to glory. That coupled with the rise of the Philadelphia Phillies and your looking a team stuck in third to last. That often means that players want out, more so than they want in.
A straight up deal for Willingham wouldn't work. The Nats are going to want a couple players in return. It has been said the Indians are purposing to send LF David Dellucci, or RF Shin-Soo Choo in the deal as well. This would start to alleviate some of the strain that's been brought upon Cleveland. Choo with his flat footed base running and his lack of defensive skills could easily be moved to Washington. What would the Tribe do however, when Grady Sizemore returns to the line-up?
While the questions rise in this trade, it's speculated that management would move Ben Francisco to left field. Willingham to right, and let Grady Sizemore would return to patrol Center Field. However, Grady isn't expected to return until after the all-star break. So who would fill in should Choo and Delluci both be traded? Could one of them be shipped out this time, and another later?
The Indians are filled with questions as to what they want to do with the trade deadline looming over the next couple of months. Will they move their foundation at first and DH to acquire younger, stronger bats? Will they accept what they have and drive on? Only time will tell for this ball club.25-02, 23:16 Yawkey Way celtics fucking suckComment

Big Ben Does It Again
Will the real Big Ben please round the bases?.
AP - Cleveland, OH - It was another big game for the Cleveland Indians and one of their rising stars answered the call. Ben Francisco's 8th inning home-run propelled the Indians past the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for at least the victory in the season series. With the win the Indians improve to 5-2 against the Rays with a game left to play, thus, the Indians will win the season series.
"Winning season series like this one, it gives you a psychological advantage later." Said Eric Wedge. "It's important for us to keep our heads in this last game though, and go out there and get the victory tomorrow. When, and if we see this team again, will be a long time down the road." That When would be October, that If, should the Indians and Devil Rays make the playoffs. This was a one sided game through five innings where Carl Pavano pitched four shutout innings in five and a third innings of work.
The Bullpen struggled to keep the Rays off of the board as they scored six runs in the late innings. Taking away Pavano's win, this has been a trend the Indians have set for Pavano, he'll leave as the winning pitcher, come the end of the game, someone else is pegged with a W, or an L. "It's frustrating, but I know for five and a third I kept our team on the winning side. Jensen Lewis will get the W tonight, and Kerry the Save, one thing that's bad about this, we should have blanked this team. " said Pavano.
The Indians wrap up the last game of this series tomorrow night before hosting the Bronx bombers over the weekend. A four game series that will be the last time the New York Yankees and Indians will meet this season, Cleveland leads that series 3-1, coming in.
