TULSA HOLDS BACK FEISTY MARSHALL TEAM

Yet again, Tulsa let their opponent back into the game, and yet again, they managed to escape with a victory. The game would start in a rather unusual way for Tulsa...as Cody Green led the team down the field and threw an 8 yard TD pass to Thomas Roberson. Eleven seconds later, Tulsa would find the endzone again after CB John Flanders picked off Marshall's QB and Cody Green found Keyarris Garret wide open in the back of the endzone for a 29 yard strike. Time to get the back-ups ready. Marshall gets a couple of first downs, but Tulsa holds them on a Third and 12 and forces a punt. Only Marshall doesn't punt. They fake a punt, and RS Sophomore kicker Justin Haig throws a 55 yard TOUCHDOWN PASS to TE Eric Frohnapfel. Tulsa would add a 34 yard field goal to end the first quarter up 17-7.

TU would stop Marshall and get the ball back, and Trey Watts would shoot through the A-Gap for a 36 yard TD run. Marshall answers back, however, with a solid drive that wore the TU defense down and Tron Martinez scores from 4 yards out. Tulsa gets the ball back, but the weather picks up and the rain causes some errant throws by Cody Green. Tulsa punts, and Junior DB Darryl Roberts returns it 79 yards for a score with 46 seconds left before the half. 24-21 Tulsa.

The third quarter saw both teams drive down the field, but ultimately punt the ball away. No action, unless you like big hits and sloppy weather.

Eighteen seconds into the fourth quarter, Thundering Herd QB Rakeem Cato sees WR Aaron Dobson slip through the coverage and tosses a 9 yard TD pass to him. Marshall goes up 28-24. Two minutes later, after some nice runs by Trey Watts, Green sees Thomas Roberson blow by the safety and they connect for a 41 yard score. 31-28 Tulsa. On Marshall's second play of the ensuing drive, Dexter McCoil comes on a safety blitz and sacks Cato, forcing him to fumble, and Derrick Jackson recovers the ball and "sprints" 29 yards into the endzone to put the Hurricane up by 10, 38-28. Tulsa's defense stops Marshall one more time, and Cody Green ends the game with 3 straight kneel downs.

Thomas Roberson catches the ball to put TU up with 4:34 left to play.

Dexter McCoil forces a fumble on a sack...

..which Derrick Jackson recovers and takes in for a touchdown. The turf monster tripped Jackson up at the goal-line.

      Tulsa improves to 5-1 with a 3-0 C-USA record while Marshall goes to 1-5 with a 1-1 C-USA record.

        TULSA DOWN (cf24)RIVAL UTEP

For some reason unknown to anyone, cf24 has always hated UTEP. Maybe it's the uniforms that are as ugly as Rosie O'Donnell's butt. Maybe it's his extreme dislike for the city of El Paso (terrible place...don't ever go there.). Not sure. But he hates them. Every game against them needs to be a blowout to satisfy his hatred.

UTEP wasn't going to let that happen this year.

Tulsa won the toss and chose to receive the opening kickoff..due to operator error(busy messing with music). No problem, as it would take Tulsa only three plays to score a touchdown from a 53 yard Trey Watts run. Not to be outdone, UTEP QB Nick Lamaison found Jordan Leslie on a slant route that saw Leslie break three tackles and take to the house..76 yards. One play. One touchdown. The teams would go back and forth, trading punts, until Sophomore RB Jake Bell found the end zone from 11 yards out with 1:21 left in the first quarter. 14-7 UTEP

The second quarter held very little offensive action until the 1:44 mark when Tulsa QB Cody Green threw a 42 yard strike to Thomas Roberson that tied the game up at 14. A minute and a half later, Tulsa would score another touchdown, this time from a J.D Ratliff 50 yard interception return with 19 seconds left before halftime. 21-14 Tulsa

J.D. Ratliff dives into the end zone while Nick Lamaison shows his displeasure.

Daniel Schwarz would add a 19 yard field goal for Tulsa in the third quarter to make it 24-14. It would be the only score in the quarter.

With 6:10 remaining in the fourth quarter, Ja'Terian Douglas busted through the line for a 20 yard touchdown run. Tulsa goes up 31-14. Two minutes later, Lamaison throws a 2 yard TD pass to RB Jake Bell to make it 31-21. Tulsa's defense stops UTEP on their final possession to close out the game.

        Tulsa wins 31-21.

H-Back Willie Carter breaks an 18 yard run.

Dexter McCoil picks off Lamaison to end the game. The interception is McCoil's first of the season, but it makes him Tulsa's all-time leader in interceptions with 14. Congrats to Dex.

        Tulsa Stats
        Cody Green 12-20 202 yards 1 td 1 int
        Ja'Terian Douglas 15 carries 143 yards 1 td Trey Watts 14 carries 122 yards 1 td
Thomas Roberson 1 catch 42 yards 1 td
Dexter McCoil 8 tackles 2 for loss 1 int

            Golden Hurricane pummel Owls

This game wasn't thought to be one of the "Games To Watch" for this week...and that proved to be true. Tulsa's defense was outstanding, holding the Rice Owls to only 6 points..which came in the first quarter. Behind a strong rushing game (44 attempts for 249 yards and 3 td's), Tulsa was able to control the clock and make the misery end just a little bit quicker for the Owls. Coach Blankenship was very pleased with his running backs, saying after the game that "We may just stop throwing the ball altogether after the past two weeks we've had on the ground. JT (Ja'Terian Douglas) and Trey have been great. Willie Carter is starting to get the touches he needs, and he's doing everything he can when he gets that ball in his hands. Alex Singleton is the best short-yardage back in the nation...and you can print that. Hell, we may even give Zack Langer a couple carries next week! (Langer, a RS Freshman, is the fourth string RB who only sees the field on Kickoff team)."

Dexter McCoil records his sixth sack of the season, while knocking QB Tyler McHargue out of the game in the process.

J.D. Ratliff strikes again in the final 30 seconds of the first half, returning an interception 52 yards for the score. Last week, he took a pick 50 yards to the house with 19 seconds before halftime.

Willie Carter takes a big shot but gets the touchdown on a 7 yard run in the third quarter.

Tulsa is the winner of the Williams Trophy.

            TU wins 38-6.

            Tulsa Stats
            Cody Green 14-23 167 yards 1 TD
            Ja'Terian Douglas 16 carries 64 yards Trey Watts 13 carries 131 yards Willie Carter 6 carries 45 yards 2 TD's Alex Singleton 5 rushes 16 yards 1 TD
Bryan Burnham 3 catches 50 yards 1 TD
Dexter McCoil 7 tackles 3 for loss 1 sack

As soon as I finished the game, someone reset the fucking circuit breaker to the house...cutting off the power to my room only, and causing everything to shut down. The game didn't save. FUCK. whatever. just gonna sim it..you can go with these as the stats since this stuff did happen. Just simmed it..and it came out to a 41-33 win.

SCRAPPY TULSA CAN'T HANG WITH THE BIG BOYS...YET.

7-1 Tulsa. 6-2 #12 Arkansas. C-USA. SEC. This was not a game that many thought would be close, let alone competitive. Tulsa was able to hold it's own for most of the game, making big plays on defense to kill drives and tiring out the Arkansas defense with long drives, but it just wasn't enough.

Five plays is all it took for Arkansas to jump to a 7-0 lead. Tyler Wilson found Javontee Herndon on a crossing route and Herndon broke 3 tackles to get into the endzone from 16 yards away. Tulsa wouldn't be as successful on their opening drive, as QB Cody Green threw his first interception of the day in the teams Red Zone.

Herndon leaves a wake of defenders behind him as he plows in for a touchdown.

The second quarter would start out on a good note for Tulsa, as Lowell Rose cut beneath a receiver, intercepted the ball, and took it 63 yards for a TU touchdown. Arkansas answers back, with Wilson throwing to a wide open Julian Horton, who walks into the end zone for a 49 yard td. With 12 seconds left in the quarter, TU kicker Daniel Schwarz knocks in a 22 yard field goal to make the score 14-10 at halftime.

Lowell Rose taunts the Arkansas players while crossing the goal line.

After trading punts to start the second half, Tulsa starts a drive at their own 38 yard line...but that's as far as they go, as Cody Green throws his second INT to Tevin Mitchel who returns it 38 yards for an Arkansas touchdown. 21-10. The Golden Hurricane offense drives down the field, using a mix of Trey Watts and Willie Carter to get down to the 18 yard line, where Green throws to Thomas Roberson who drags two defenders into the end zone for a TU TD.

Dexter McCoil comes up with his second interception of the year.

There would be no scoring in the fourth quarter, as Cody Green throws his third INT of the day to seal the victory for Arkansas with just 2 minutes left in the game. When asked after the game if the coaches are looking to make a change at QB, Coach Bill Blankenship replied with "What the f--- do you think? Cody Green is a good quarterback...when he has his head in the game. Unfortunately, that has not been the case too often this year. We WILL have a battle this week to see who will start the next game for us. We need to win games without mistakes, especially from the quarterback position. We don't throw the ball a lot. We run a very detail-oriented offense. We need the quarterback to be THE smartest man on the football field. He needs to get us out of bad plays, and into the right plays. He needs to be able to read the coverage, and make the smart throw. Cody Green has not done that.".

                Arkansas wins 21-17

                    NEW QB, SAME OLD PROBLEMS

Last week, Coach Bill Blankenship said there would be a competition for the quarterback spot. He kept the results secret until Tulsa received the ball against Houston...maybe he should've kept them secret even longer. Sophomore Kalen Henderson marched out to the 31 yard line to begin his first start of the year, and promptly did what no one expected- threw an interception. Well, so much for that battle, eh? Gone are the days of GJ Kinne throwing the ball all over defenses, and here are the days where Tulsa may just become a "running" team. Which, now that I think about, doesn't sound too bad, as Trey Watts and Ja'Terian Douglas each rushed for over 100 yards against Houston. Sure, Henderson threw two touchdowns and 222 yards. He also threw 3 interceptions and went 10-23. Not exactly what the coaches had in mind. The running backs "put the team on there backs doe", with Douglas finishing with 102 yards on 18 carries and Watts with 100 yards and 2 TD's on 14 rushes. Bulldozer Alex Singleton slammed in a touchdown from four yards out as well. Linebacker Shaun Jackson led the team with 6 tackles(4 for loss, 2 sacks).

John Flanders picks off a David Piland pass in the endzone.

Thomas Roberson got behind the defense on this 50-yard touchdown catch. Gotta love play-action.

                    Tulsa defeats rival Houston 35-17

Tulsa is now 8-2 on the year with an unblemished 6-0 C-USA record.
                    Houston falls to 6-4 with a 4-2 C-USA record.

I played the next two games (UCF and the C-USA Championship game), went to advance to the Bowl, and it froze. Shut everything down, turned it back on, and the file was corrupted. The one time I try to do this with my favortie team, and I can't make it out of the first year.

With that being said, I would like to try another one. I had fun doing this, and I've always loved reading these. I'm still playing the game every other day, so I'm not sick of it yet. I will most likely be using a different team, and am open to suggestions.

As of right now, I've got a few teams I'm thinking of.
