Brazilian Lucas Leiva (25 years old) and Spaniard José Enrique (26 years old) have been listed by Liverpool, made official this morning following their Barclays opening victory over West Bromwich. Leiva currently finds himself as a reserve. In the past Liverpool saw him as valuable as a center defensive midfielder, but after his injury last year others were forced to step up. "There are many lads who played brilliantly in Lucas' absence. I can't fault him (Leiva) for that, but I also need to reward those guys. We need to find a solution that works for everybody," explained coach Brendan Rodgers about the situation at hand. Left back José Enrique was also listed by Liverpool. Said Rodgers about that listing, "We have Martin (Kelly) ready to step into the first team picture immediately. Glen (Johnson) gives us the flexibility we need as he's able to play either corner. That blessing allows us to make moves to make our squad better on the pitch."
Rumor has it with these sudden moves that Liverpool may be attempting to stock up finances to make a big move. Rodgers has consistently said he's not just happy with a Champions League birth, but wants to compete in Barclays this season.
