      Sunday Match-up Preview

      @

Jacksonville Jaguars () @ Green Bay Packers (5-2)

The Packers finally got back on track last week against St. Louis, they hope to continue, and put a streak together. This week they are up against the Jaguars, who have been mediocre so far this season. Aaron Rodgers, who hasn't thrown a single interception since week 3 against the Seahawks. Rodhers is looking at his second MVP title and a consecutive one at that. He is having a tremendous season thus far. While the Defense and run game have been way to inconsistent between weeks.

      Keys to the game
In order for Greenbay to win:
-Keep Cedric Benson hot, after a 200+ yard game last week, look for McCarthy to go right back to that.
-Force Chad Henne to turn the ball over
      -Contain MJD

In order for the Jaguars to win:
-Pound the rock with MJD and Rashad Jennings
-Chad Henne needs to manage the clock and keep Green Bays defense on the field.

Packers Defense finally shows up, Offense doesn't. Jags squeek by 26-22

        __________________________________________________ ___________________________________

Usually when your kicker is your main income of points in a game, you're almost always going to lose. This is not at all a jab at Mason Crosby who had a historic night, making all five of his field goals. Four of them which were over 50 yards including a record breaking 65 yard field goal! Apart from Crosby, and maybe the Packers pass defense, the team sputtered through all four quarters. MJD ran all over them and Rodgers had his first game without a touchdown. On the bright side, Aaron Rodgers keeps the consecutive pass attempts without an interception streak alive which is sitting at 228. Just 66 attempts away from the record held by fellow ex-Packer great, Bart Starr. Next week the Packers take on the Cardinals on the road who are 3-4-1. Coming off of a 23-23 tie against the San Fransisco 49ers who have been atrocious this year, currently 1-6-1.

          Week 8 in review
          What we will be covering:
          - Five fun facts
          - Weekly score results
          - Hot off the press! Flacco's return, Randy Starks re-sign, injury Deja-vu + more!
          - Stat of the week
          - Injury Report

Five fun facts after week 8
          1. The fall of the last undefeated team. That is right folks, there will be no undefeated teams in the NFL this season. As the last remaining team, the Pittsburgh Steelers went on the road and suffered a 23-30 loss to division rivals Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals have been a middle of the row team, going into the game at 3-3 and getting back on track with a win. Putting them above .500 and a key division win over the Steelers. Oh and Roethlisberger will miss at least one week due to injury.
2.Ties are possible. Yes it happened, as the Arizona Cardinals played the 49ers that ended in a 23 all draw.
          3. Lovie Smith gets his 75th win. 75 wins and counting for Lovie Smith. He and his Bears are enjoying a 5-2 and a 5 game win streak after giving away the first two games to the Colts and Packers. Now back on track and just half a game behind the Packers, who have slipped as of late, are looking to continue this success.
4.Eagles snap a 4 game losing streak. Coming out of their bye, the Falcons were on the bad end of a Michael Vick turn around. Vick led his Eagles to a 45-23 victory and a perfect QB rating for himself. 5 TD's, 76% and no picks. Vick has turned his season around after putting up weak numbers thus far.
          5. Injuries do comeback! After Jahvid Best has missed up until this week due to injury in the preseason, Jahvid Best made his return for the Lions at home against the Seahawks. His return would be short-lived as he would suffer a Fractured foot that would keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.

          Week 8 Results
          Thursday's Games
          Buccaneers @ Vikings 20-6
          Sunday's Games
          Jaguars @ Packers 26-22
          Dolphins @ Jets 32-38
          Chargers @ Browns 17-10
          Colts @ Titans 41-17
          Patriots @ Rams 20-16
          Falcons @ Eagles 24-45
          Panthers @ Bears 16-27
          Seahawks @ Lions 17-34
          Redskins @ Steelers 16-21
          Raiders @ Chiefs 28-25
          Giants @ Cowboys 29-37
          Saints @ Broncos 23-27
          49ers @ Cardinals 23-23 TIE

The return of Joe. Joe Flacco will be returning for week 9 against the Cleveland Browns. The Ravens are just coming off of their bye, and a huge win the week previously overthe Houston Texans where the Flacco-less offense thrived under Tyrod Taylor who had a near 300 yard game along with 4 touchdowns and just one interception. Flacco has been out since d7cef0199b10a61568d30d3a201645f8.jpgtheir week 4 win against the Browns in which they knocked Flacco out late in the game. How ironic is it that his return will be against the team that put him out for a month?

Dolphins nab Randy Starks for another 5 seasons.
The 'Phins announced that they have officially re-signed veteran DT Randy Starks to a 5 year deal worth $32,000,000. The 8 year pro out of Maryland has had a pretty good season, his stats don't prove much. But he's got 2 sacks on the season along with 18 tackles and 1 for a loss.

Mike McCarthy challenges defense. The usually well-demeanered Packers coach challenged his defense to "step up to the plate" as he said early after their loss to the Jaguars. The Packers coach isn't the one to go to the press, but he announced his displeasure with how the team has performed defensively. As he has all the reason to believe so. "This is not the type of defense we find acceptable at Greenbay. We have a history of played sound defense and we are not playing like that right now. Our guys in the trenches aren't filling in gaps properly and our linebackers are missing tackles. It's not a great sign when you see guys in our secondary as our lead tacklers on the stat sheet. That's when the alarm goes off." An expressive McCarthy said. But he is correct, the second, third, fourth and sixth top tackle leaders on the Packers defense are secondary players.

Bears plagued by injuries. How the Bears remain 5-2 somehow is beyond me. The Bears have suffered this season from injury more than anyone else. They currently have 6 players injured. 4 of which that are done for the season, this includes starting C Roberto Garza, 2nd string C Edwin Williams, and second and third stringer DT's Okoye and Toeaina. The addition of Haynesworth has been a great saviour to their defense. Forte has seen time on the bench due to injury earlier in the season and the latest hit to their starting LT is just what Lovie Smith does not need to hear right now.

          Stat of the Week:
          Michael Vick 23-30 335 yards 76% 5 TD's 152.0 QBR

Here is this weeks latest additions to the injury report:

Rodgers ends streak, manage to win 33-31 thanks to Matthews & co.

            @
            __________________________________________________ ___________________________________

The streak is over, officially ending at 231, Aaron Rodgers threw his first pick in a little over a month. We knew another interception was inevitble, but boy did they come in bunches. Aaron Rodgers would throw four interceptions on the night. Along with two additional Packer fumbles, yet they still eek out a victory over the Cardinals on Sunday. Thanks largely in part of Mason Crosby who kicked four fieldgoals, the longest tying the old record (now owned by himself) of 63 yards. The fourth fieldgoal coming at the dying embers of the game as time ran out. "It was an ugly win" was the best way coach McCarthy could sum up the game. "Defense rose to the occasion, they held Beanie Wells to under 100 yards, got two interceptions, forced a fumble and sacked Skelton 11 times tonight. I'm proud." Clay Matthews would account for nearly half of those sacks, picking up five for himself, Rookie CB Casey Hayward would also have three. "My play was unacceptable, big shoutout to the defense who not only kept us in the game, but won it for us" a frustrated Aaron Rodgers said on the podium earlier, who was quick to get leave. "I got alot of work to do, receivers included." Aaron would also note. As the Packer receiving core, despite have three one hundred yard receivers on the night, would account for 11 total drops. 5 committed by Donald Driver, 4 from James Jones and 2 from Jordy Nelson. The Packers eek out the victory and head into their BYE week on a semi-positive note.

                      Hot off the press!
Peyton Manning leading the pack in the MVP race. It has been a tremendous season thus far for Peyton Manning, many wondered if he would ever return to his elite status we all know him for after he missed the 2011 season and went through multiple neck surgeries. Peyton couldn't have proved the doubters any more wrong as he is leads the league in Pro Bowl votes with just over 1.1 million and is currently ranked #1 in many eyes as the lead MVP candidate (although a strong case can be made about his brother Eli and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers). Peyton Manning, in fact, is having one of his greatest seasons over his 14 year span. Amassing for 3,600 yards, 30 touchdowns to a mere 5 interceptions with a 61% completion rate. With five games remaining, Peyton Manning ison pace to have arguably the greatest QB season of all time. With over 5,200 yards, 45 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. What is even more surprising is the fact he is doing all this on a new team with a new system. Yet he still has put up these explosive numbers. Manning has led the Broncos to an 8-3 record. Just second behind the Chargers who were able to beat them by three in week 11.

Packers are the roller coaster team of the NFL. Just when you think these guys are the superbowl favourites they look poor and you begin to write them off, then the very next week they comeback and look hot, then the next..You see the trend? The only consistent factor in the Packers has been Aaron Rodgers, who has seemed to have settled down and is looking human again (throwing more ints). Cedric Benson has been surprisingly picking it up, but he too, has been far to inconsistent through each week. But the worst part is the defense. Each week either the secondary or front 7 will look elite while the other looks horrendous, the very next week? They trade places. It's frustrating to see Clay Matthews and co. one week get 9 total sacks but then the very next week, give up 150+ yards on the ground game. I want to love them but they are giving us a lot of reasons to favour the teams like the Chargers and Giants and Steelers who have shown consistency all year. With 5 games left and sitting at 7-4, in a very tough NFC North where the Lions are 7-4, Bears 6-5 and Vikings 5-6. You do not have time to afford a loss now in the season.

                      What happened to the 49ers?
                      Going into the season they were widely considered the NFC superbowl representative favourite. 12 Weeks in, they are 3-7 with all but no hope left for a recovery. The defense is ranked 5th in the league while they have the 26th ranked offense in the league. What do you get? A team that stays in games but never make that play to tie the game or take the lead. Instead, they lose 21-14 every game. Alex Smith looks ok with 21 touchdowns and 11 int's. But his conservative play and low completion percentage (55) leads to games where he isn't winning games. He's just kinda playing it safe throwing little dump offs. With just over 200 yards a game average. Frank Gore has had a good season in terms of yards. With just about 1000 yards, but only 4 touchdowns to his name, 7 in total to the entire 49er rushing attack. The offense aren't making a lot of mistakes, but, they just aren't doing anything. Aldon Smith has been the light of the team, he has picked up 11 sacks and 61 tackles along with an int so far this season. Admitedly, the defense has only caused 5 turnovers this season. Although they force many three and outs it would be nice to see them putting their offense in better field position to put points on the board;

                      The Terrific Ten

                      1. Chargers. At 9-2 you cannot deny that they are the hottest team in the NFL right now with 6 straight wins. Over good teams too!

                      2. Giants. Another 9-2 squad, I felt enticed to put them at #1 but I feel they lack the surge Chargers have right now, and they almost had the Packers beat them last week.

                      3. Steelers.
Since their first loss, they have been 2-2. But no worries as they are on a 2 win streak right now with a healthy Ben Roethlisberger! At 8-3 I like the Steelers come playoffs.

                      4. Broncos.
The highest scoring offense with Peyton Manning (surprised?) Along with a defense that has played very well so far this season. A loss to SD doesn't put them in the top 3 but look out for these 8-3 Broncos.

                      5. Patriots. The Bills should probably be here, "The Bills, seriously?!" as most of you may be thinking, Patriots took a beating to the Bills in week 11, but a thrashing given to the Colts keeps them in the top 5. Plus, at 8-3 with Brady? That warrants a spot.

                      6.
Bills. One of the biggest surprises this season, if not the biggest. At 7-4 The Bills are looking great on offense, but the defense really hurts their spot. You need a defense in the playoffs and in harsh Buffalo climates, you need a defense to rally the team together for wins.

                      7. Colts. Not to bash the Colts, but I think their record of 8-3 is a tad misleading. This is no jab at Andrew Luck, who has played well as a rookie so far. They have scored well on offense along with a mediocre defense. I just can't see these guys getting into the NFC conference championship against the teams that they will be up against. Prove me wrong Andrew.

                      8. Packers.
Could be a top 3 ranked team but the inconsistency of this entire squad is what hurts them. They have faced losses against both the Colts and the Giants so I can't warrant them a spot any higher. But Aaron Rodgers is looking hot and there are a few other bright spots on defense and in the receiving core. But with a front 3 that can't consistency eat up blocks and the shotty tackling along with the horrendous O-Line, an 8 is about the best I can push them. Sitting at 7-4 right now.

                      9. Lions.
One of the unsung teams in the NFL right now I would say. The Lions have similar stats as the Colts on offense and defense, but I feel that their potential exceeds these numbers. I see the Lions gaining a wildcard spot in the playoffs and actually making a splash or two..At 7-4 the Lions hope to rally in a second straight win.

                      10. Saints.
Alot of 6-5 teams I could put here, such as the Seahawks, Bucs, Bengals, Bears and Titans. I chose the Saints because of Drew Brees alone. The rest of these teams are lacking a leader and elite quarterback. Brees is both, The offense has sputtered occasionally and the defense looks meh right now, but Brees is one of only a few quarterbacks I'd have trust in leading my team out of hell and into the light. Bears could have taken this spot but injuries have plagued them, badly.
