    Remember The 90's?: Re-Living Greatness

Hey guys i've been running this franchise for some time on another forum, and decided to share here for those that haven't seen it. I'm currently at the 1992 NFL Draft, but will put all the previous updates in here and try to catch up where I'm at.

    Welcome to the Year 1990

Here I shall be reporting upon my Madden 2005 - PC franchise, with a twist. I will be creating, and using, complete rosters simulating the beginning of the 1990 season. I will try to re-create as closely as possible the events that have occured during the 90's. I shall try my best to attempt too piece together a recognizable facsimilie of each team, however, there will without a dobut be some interesting differences. What if team X never lost player Y for the season and drafted player Z and selection A? Here's where you find out! Will the Bills finally win a superbowl? Will Dan Marino become the most prolific passer in NFL history? Will Barry Sanders stick around and produce long enough to earn the rushing record? Will Marion Butts play like he did in 1990 and not dwindle away? Will Jerry Rice become the best player in history....or will it be Haywood Jeffries? Will Derrick Thomas shatter sack records? Only this 'chise will tell.

Since the PC Version won't be coming out for a bit, I will post some information on each of the NFL teams and get you re-aquainted with NFL history. More information will also be posted once the rosters/game are in my possession so right now it's more of a bare-bones knowledge giving.

The Bears are coming off of a vastly disappointing 6-10 season the previous year. The Lions, Packers, and Vikings all managed to outdue the Bears in a struggling season. Jim Harbaugh wasn't starting for most of the year as Mike Tomczak threw for 2,058 yards and 16 touchdowns (but also 16 interceptions.) Neal Anderson continued to run strong for the team, not only leading them in rushing, but in receptions and recieving touchdowns as well. Which is more of a testement to the lackluster Chicago recieving corps rather then Anderson's stellar pass-catching abilities. Richard Dent sacked Joe Montana this year to become the all-time Chicago Bear sack leader at this point in his career. The Chicago Bears and Mike Ditka are looking forward to this season with Jim Harbaugh taking the helm. They are also looking forward to seeing how Wendell Davis performs as one of their main receivers as they've demoted Dennis Gentry for the season.

The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off an 8-8 season in 1989. Now some would say that's pretty decent, but when the other 3 teams in your division all get 9 wins, it doesn't look as impressive in your eyes. With the edition of upcoming defensive standouts like James Crancis and Carl Carter the Bengals are looking forward to a much improved defensive output. James Brooks had a great year in 1989 where his 221 carries saw him average 5.6 yards per carry. The Bengals are hoping that he produces similar numbers this year at the right hand of the team's leader, Boomer Esiason. Esiason had a solid year last year earning himself a 81.7 quarterback rating with his 3,525 yards, 28 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions. The Bengals high-powered offense is looking forward to making a super bowl run this year with their minimal, but integral, changes.

The Buffalo Bills are looking like they're piecing together a contending team this year. With solid offensive rocks such as Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, and Andre Reed they're already setting up a triplet combo that will without a doubt be productive. Last Year the Bills snuck into the playoffs with a 9-7 record that ound them atop the AFC East division. After solid years by Jim Kelly the team is expecting nothing less from him in the upcoming seasons. IF the Bills can harness the power they have on offensive, and have their defensive players like Kurt Talley peform, they could easily become contenders in the super bowl picture.

The Denver Broncos are very hopefull about this years outcome. After a solid performance that saw them go 11-5 in 1989 they are without a doubt pumped up and ready for this years game. After suffering an absolutly demoralizing loss to the San Francisco 49ers, 55-10, in the Super Bowl, the Denver Broncos are coming back this year with a vengenace.

Bud Carson had a decent opening performance as the Cleveland Browns new head coach last year. He managed to skate by with a 9-6-1 record at the hands of his talented Cleveland players. However the team is rather unsure about this years upcoming season. Right now there is conflict ath the runningback position between Metcalf and Mack which should make for an interesting season. Bernie Kosar has been struggling as of late, and they are unsure if they'll be able to committ to a season similar to last years.

Not much can be said about the Tampa Bay Yucks. They just dont have the kind of offensive power that is required to be a winning team in this league. They have a questionable runninggame that looks like it's going to be split between Gary Anderson and Reggie Cobb in terms of carries this season, with Cobb coming in as a 3rd down runningback. Testeverde was probably the only plus last year with his 3,000+ yards and 20 touchdowns. However he also threw for a horrible 22 interceptions as well, which didn't help the ailing Tampa Bay team.

The Arizona Cardinals have continued to struggle just like they have throughout the entire franchise history. After cycling two different coaches in last years upsetting 5-11 season, they decided to drop them both and stick with a brand new head coach, Joe Bugel. Bugel will hopefully be able to turn this ailing franchise around with what little talent they have on offnese at the moment.

After a shakey first year at head coach for the San Diego Chargers, Dan Hennings is looking forward to breaking out in his sophmore season. It won't be too hard to pre-empt his 6-10 record this year with the talent on the team. It will be intersting to see how a young Marion Butts performs this year as a full-fledged starter as he won't be splitting carries with Tim Spencer. Meanwhile quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver will hopefully play more then 5 games this year. Tolliver has a decent pair of recievers in young Quinn Early and Anthony Miller who could very well emerge this season.

After an 8-7-1 year last season that was cut short a little earlier then Marty's likings, he's looking towards going nowhere but up this season. The Chiefs know they have capable players with Steve Deberg at the helm, and the outstanding pounding runs of the nigerian monster, Christian Okoye!

Last year continued a stringent number of seasons that ended in lackluster results for the Colts. They seem to be over a hump that they just can't overcome. The 8-8 season left much to be imagined as they sat at home watching the super bowl. Last year Jack Trudeau had a mediocre season throwing, but the main focus was on runningback Eric Dickerson who had a solid 1,311 yards and 7 touchdowns. The recieving tandem of Billy Brooks and Andre Rison also helped to improv their passing game. Hopefully this season the Colts can finally give it that extra push to get into the playoffs and make a name for themselves.

The Dallas Cowboys had the worst year in franchis history in 1989 where they played an absolutely horrible 1-15 season. Young quarterback Troy Aikman struggled all year as he finished with 1,749 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions during the time he wasn't overtaken by Steve Walsh. At runningback Paul Palmer ran for 446 yards on 112 carries in the Cowboys rushing game which left much too be desired. Jimmy Johnson was surprisingly retained as the head coach, and it's going to be extremely hard for him to not improv this year greatly in comparison to his first.

After an 8-8 1989 season the Dolphins are looking to get past mediocrity and slam into the playoffs this season. Dan Marino had a solid year throwing just 3 yards short of 4,000 and had a solid 24 touchdowns. However his 22 interceptions were a little high for Shula's tastes. Sammie Smith did decently but missed a few games due to injury. The Mark's brothers are looking to help keep the Dolphins passing game top-notch this year as they're going to scorch defensivebacks all the way to the championship game.

The 1989 year was a solid season for the Philadelphia Eagles. With the mobility of Randall Cunningham gaining over 4,000 total yards (3,400 passing, 621 rushing) and 21 passing td's and 4 rushing td's the Eagles were set on offense. The runningback by committee mentality that was shared by Keith Byars and Anthony Toney was greatley effective. However Keith Byars superior pass-catching abilities (68 catches, 721 yards) made him a favorable back for Cunningham. The Eagles hope to continue along the same lines of success that they had garnerd the previous year.

One of the worst years in the NFL was had by the Atlanta Falcons in 1989. They finished with a horrible 3-13 record that didn't have many highpoints. Chris Miller's yardage and 70 quarterback rating were probably the highest points. WIth the addition of young DeioN Sanders breaking out at the cornerback spot and helping the team immensily on punt returns. The Falcons have a lot of room to improve this upcoming season, and so far all signs point to at least doubling their efforts.
