Martinez Leads Indians In Comeback Win Over Tigers

    (18-12) @ (16-14)

Curtis Granderson continues to tear the leather off the ball, connecting on his 8th home run of the season in the Tigers loss.

Detroit battled hard on the road but ended up on the losing end of a 4-3 score, as Cleveland collects a divisional win this afternoon. Nate Roberton, who only gave up 1 hit which was a solo shot off the bat of Victor Martinez, took the loss in relief, as he failed to protect the tie score he was entrusted with. Miguel Cabrera had a solid game at the dish, going 3 for 4 in the loss.

It'll be the Tigers Edwin Jackson (2-1 , 2.14 ERA) facing off with Fausto Carmona (4-0 , 2.43 ERA) in the series finale at Progressive Field tomorrow. Cabrera hopes to add to his 11-game hitting streak.

question, how do you like the Zumaya/Rodney flamethrower set up?

In the 2 games i've played against the tigers it seems that Zumaya is more dominant than Rodney.

I agree! If Miguel keeps it up, ASG might not be the only thing he wins. cough mvp cough

He's hitting .400 and leading the AL in home runs. :whisper:

Really? Rodney has been far more dominant than Zumaya up to this point of the season. I love the 1-2 bunch they offer me in late game situations though.

But Zumaya has 2 blown saves. He throws hard no doubt, but is very vulnerable to wild pitches and hitters reading his pitches. Rodney has a lot more movement with his 2 seamer which keeps hitters off balance.

alright cool. I haven't seen Zumaya has much either, he's only come in for like .2 IP. The only drawback is that they both throw hard, so hitters don't have to adjust much. Looking good as always mike.

He has always been a 20-20 guy, as long as he doesnt go on a cold streak in the middle of the season its all good!

Errors Help Tigers Win Series And Maintain Top Spot In AL Central

                    (18-13) @ (17-14)

Fausto Carmona hangs his head as he gives up a home run to Magglio Ordonez in the top of the 6th.

Narrowly escaping with a win in Cleveland was just fine for the Tigers, who won yesterday's game with the Indians by a final score of 4-3. Leading the way offensively was Curtis Granderson, who homered in his 3rd straight game, and brought in 2 runs. Ryan Perry, who entered the game with the score tied at 3, was able to notch his 1st win of the season, in relief of Edwin Jackson, firing 2 and a third innings, and allowing no runs on 1 hit. Miguel Cabrera came in for the game winning run in the top of the 9th in after Indians third baseman Mark Derosa's throw to 1st after a chopper off the bat of Michael Young ended up in the outfield. The Tigers were not able to add on any more runs in the inning but Fernando Rodney came in and closed the door. Rodney earned his 12th save of the season, and is now 5 for 5 in his last 5 save opportunities.

Next up for the Tigers are the Twins in Minnesota after a much needed day off. Jeremy Bonderman (2-1 , 1.19 ERA) and Nick Blackburn (2-1 , 3.57 ERA) are the game 1 probables. Miguel Cabrera will look to add to his 12-game hitting streak.

                      Series Review:

                      Things We Did Well:

                      - Went into Cleveland with confidence. The Indians swept us at Comerica earlier this season but we managed to take the series 2-1 in their house. All 3 games were decided by 1 run. Gritty, grind em out wins.

                      - Granderson. Granderson. Granderson. 3 homers in 3 games. This guy is insane. Average, power, glove, speed. arm. Turning into my five-tool player.

                      Things We Didn't Do Well:

                      - Zero stolen bases. That isn't like us. We are at our best when Anderson, Granderson and Laird are aggressive on the basepaths.

                      - Giving up home runs. The Indians killed us with the long ball in the 1st series we had with them and they did it again. Luckily this time around, a lot of them were solo shots. How do you have to pitch to these guys to avoid them smacking it out of the park?

                      - We hit 6 homers this series but only got 14 RBI's out of it. A big part of this has to do with hitting into lots of double plays. We ruin any chances of getting rallies going if we just ground into double plays all game.
