Late Inning Collapse Leads To Tigers 3 Game Win Streak Being Snapped
(35-23) @ (28-31)
Mike Hessman continues to impress off the bench, hitting his 3rd home run of the season in the losing effort.
The Tigers fell to the division rival White Sox in Chicago tonight, ending a 3-game winning streak. Detroit played Chicago tough on he road, but ended up on the wrong side of the 604 decision at U.S. Cellular Field. Rick Porcello was the starter and loser, despite giving up only 5 hits (and 4 runs) in a relatively short outing (6 and a third innings). Miguel Cabrera sparked the offense, going 2 for 4 and driving in a run.
Adam Everett is listed as day to day after leaving the game early with a bruised shin. Everett also commited 2 throwing errors in tonight's matchup which was a factor in the Tigers loss, more than likely due to pain in the shin.
The Tigers and White Sox play game 3 tomorrow night, with Dontrelle Willis (6-1 , 3.78 ERA) and Mark Buehrle (5-3 , 6.44 ERA) the probable starters.

Man, that game fell right through my fingertips.
Fuckin Everett. I guess making him play through the pain of a bruised shin wasn't a good idea. For as much as a defensive phenom this guy is in real life, 9 errors already on the year? Pretty worthless with the bat too.
Mix in those 2 errors with a mental lapse on my part. I thought there was 2 outs in that 7th inning and actually got them to hit into a double play. Only thing is, there was only 1 out. So I throw to 1st, a run scores and with me feeling like an asshole already, Fields comes in and hits a 2 run blast.
I managed to bring a run home in the 9th and get the bases loaded, but just couldn't get the big hit to force it into extras. That's why you saw I pinch hitted with Maggs and Laird. Treanor and Everett were wearing collars.Comment

Tigers Lose Game, D-Train; Look To Split Series In Game 4
(35-24) @ (29-31)
Dontrelle Willis was spinning a gem before having to leave the game early with a shoulder injury.
The Tigers gave their AL Central foes a solid fight tonight, but in the end the White Sox picked up a 2-1 victory at U.S. Cellular Field. Zach Miner, who gave up 1 run and 6 hits in 2 and two thirds innings took the loss in relief after coming into game immediately after starter Dontrelle Willis left the game with a shoulder injury. Adam Everett knocked in 1 run and went 2 for 3 to provide some offense for the Tigers.
The Tigers will look to split the 4 game series in the series finale tomorrow night with their big gun on the mound as Justin Verlander (5-4 , 2.55 ERA) will take on the White Sox and John Danks (4-3 , 3.82 ERA) in Chicago.

Tigers Disabled List A Revolving Door Of Sorts
Despite the Tigers success in the 1st half of the 2009 season, the Tigers DL has been a revolving door, with players seemingly coming on and off the DL, causing the Tigers roster to constantly fluctuate.
The latest addition to the Tigers DL is starting pitcher Dontrelle Willis. The Tigers have placed the D-Train on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his throwing shoulder.
To date this season, he is 6.1 with a 3.63 ERA. Needless to say, Dontrelle looks to be returning to the form that won him 22 games in 2005.
"He said he's all right. He's tough. He wants to compete," Tigers Manager Jim Leyland said of Willis.
"They're going to do everything they can to get me back on the mound. It could've been a lot worse," Willis said.
Zach Miner will slide into the #5 spot in the Tigers pitching rotation in the meantime.
With Willis heading to the DL, second baseman Placido Polanco has been cleared to return after suffering a broken forearm on a stolen base attempt nearly 2 months ago.
Adam Everett (batting .219 on the season with 9 errors) is currently nursing a bruised shin will likely be relocated to the bench with Polanco returning. Michael Young, who was playing second in Polanco's absence will return to his natural position and start at short.
Polanco was batting .287 with 4 stolen bases before the injury.
Tigers Updated Lineup:
LF Josh Anderson
CF Curtis Granderson
RF Magglio Ordonez
1B Miguel Cabrera
SS Michael Young
DH Carlos Guillen
2B Placido Polanco
3B Brandon Inge
C Gerald Laird
Bench:
SS Adam Everett
LF Marcus Thames
3B/1B Mike Hessman
2B/OF Ryan Raburn
C Matt Treanor

Yeah. Santiago was pretty worthless. Everett is decent. He's hitting about .210 which is the norm for him. I just can't understand why he already has 9 errors. He makes absolute web gems at times and then commits throwing errors on routine ground balls. More than anyone else on my team. Boggles my mind.
Yeah, Guillen was playing 3rd when Inge went out and at one point (right before he got injured), had him playing 2nd (because of how long Polanco was out).
Larish is doing well in Triple A if I remember correctly. I'll give you a full statline when I get home from work today. It's just that I don't have room for him with Cabrera having yet to miss a game so far this season. Not to mention Hessman can cover 1st in the case Cabrera needs a day off.
I'm hoping Polanco can come back and hit for close to .300 like he was previously doing. I could really use some more production out of the bottom half of my lineup.Comment

Yeah, guys who can hit .300 year after year don't grow on trees.
I was considering going back to the old lineup of Granderson hitting leadoff and Polanco 2nd but it's a matter of seeing how this lineup works. Granderson is having a great year hitting in the #2 spot with his power/speed combination behind Anderson.
I'm content with the batting order setup the way it is as of right now. Hopefully, it works come game time.Comment

Wow, payback's a bitch. Carlos Quentin just leaped up and robbed Magglio of a 2 run homer. :pissed:Comment
