So a question for my fellow Wire fans:

    Do you like Stringer Bell?

I don't mean, do you like him as an actor or character or whatever...do you actually like him? Personally, I think he's the devil and to this day will not believe that Avon betrayed him without knowing/reading that Stringer had betrayed him first. I think he sold out Avon (perhaps my favorite character) and it still irritates me.

(Watching the series with the GF and just finished S3 so that is the impetus for this question)

Season Two forced me to check out. I gave it the handwave about 75% through. I'm normally pretty patient, but the pace of this show just kills me.

My GF powered through the whole series, and I caught about half of the episodes or so from 3-5. Season Four was really the only season where I was compelled to watch every episode. Season Five might have been worse than two.

I agree I think 5 was worst season.

Re-watching this with my roommates. We just finished season 2 and it was a lot better than I remembered. Frank Sabotka is such a tragic character

He was my favorite character. The businessman angle appealed to me. Just the way the character was written made me like him that much more.

After just finishing the second season for the 3rd time, I can see how Stringer Bell can be not as liked. I loved him my first go around, but the more I watch I can see how he can be unlikable. Very smart but kinda soft and burned too many bridges that finally caught up to him (omar, d'angelo, brother mizzone).

Couldn't get into this show. Way too slow for me.

I'd consider Breaking Bad the greatest show ever for what its worth.

I love Stringer Bell, but I can see how a lot of people hate him, which is why his character is so great.

He is probably my favorite TV show character of all time.

Stringer's definitely a divisive topic. On one hand he's intelligent and charismatic, and watching him do business is fascinating. You kind of root for him as he's not your average drug dealer. On the other hand he's a ruthless, two-faced, back stabber.

Very compelling and interesting character for sure, one of the most well-written and acted in TV history IMO. My personal favorite is Prop Joe, but you can argue that Stringer is the best character on the show, if it's not McNulty or Omar.

It's almost sad for me to think that it's been 10 years since The Wire first aired.

I can remember watching it with my friends like it was yesterday. I was in high school and 4 or 5 of my buddies would get together to watch this every single weekend.

I decided to watch the series again a couple weeks ago. I finished season 1 in a couple days and flew threw season 2. Season 2 was better than I remembered. It's not as good as the others, but it has some really powerful moments and underlying themes in it. I'm just starting season 3 and I'm really excited for it, it's weird how fast I'm getting through this and how much I'm enjoying every episode.

My life has changed a lot since the first time I watched this show. I've changed a lot. But the show hasn't. If it were to air today it would be just as good as it was 10 years ago.

The series concluded in 2008, a little before I finished college, and there really hasn't been anything on TV that's grabbed me like the Wire. It changed the way I thought, it changed the way we acted with each other, and it showed us a very real side of life that we'd never seen before.

To this day, my buddies and I still reference the Wire and use quotes from it.

It will never be as good as watching it for the first time a decade ago but anyone that doesn't watch this series is doing themselves a disservice. It does require some patience and focus, it's not an action packed crime series, the story is great but the show is about the characters.

Somehow, the writers help you identify with every character, whether it's a homeless crackhead or a gay gangster who robs drug dealers. Do yourself a favor and watch this show from start to finish if you have time.

Breaking Bad is a great show. No doubt about it. But The Wire is better. Fact.

For fans of the show you should also check out Homicide: Life on the Street and The Corner. The latter was a mini series from HBO that was basically the impetus for The Wire.
