I completely turned off the radio freshmen year(4 years ago). And kicked it straight old school. I listen to the mainstream good artist like Kanye and whatnot but all these other guys that people here at VSN love I let them slip bye and I'm too lazy to start listening to them.

Like Kid Cudi for example, I haven't heard 1 full song by him. Only songs I know by him is Day and Night and Poke her face and I haven't listened to either one fully.

eh, my point is I let some good arist slip by without listening to them cause I assumed they'd be trash since all the other current rap I heard was bad. You can't just turn on the radio anymore for good music, got to actually search for that shit now a days. lol Not gonna lie I'm too lazy for that.

Lil Wayne shouldn't be on the list, much less top 10. I was willing to forgive that though and chalk it up as a difference of opinion, until I got to this part:

Wayne has some of the best lyrics in the game, and possibly ever

My top 5 would be Budden, Dre3k, Lupe, Common and Nas in no particular order.

I'm loving all of the discussion here. Anyway to answer all of the questions on where is this person where is that person, its simple, the measure of a great artist not only includes his talent, but also how successful he/she is.

Yes some of these artist that you all are naming have great talent, but if you're not selling albums what does it matter?

And i appreciate the people that actually stated a full opinion instead of just saying "This sucks" or any variation of the sort.

Bro your missing the entire point of your own list. It wasnt about who is selling out, It was about pure talent.... Raekwon just released an album, GZA did and RZA did the past couple years, Meth, Crooked I is sick, Budden has talent, Tech N9ne, Guilty Simpson, Sean Price, Slug from atmosphere is one of the most underrated artist EVER, listen to dynospectrum, overcast etc ( I know these albums are old and his last LP wasnt very good) Andre 3K, MF Doom! Theres so many people who are better "rappers" in the sense they have WAY better lyrics and flow then almost everybody on this list, they just decided not to sell out.

                          Wayne over Andre 3k?

                          HAHAHAHAHA

Wayne over just about anyone is a joke.

Hell take a look at my avatar. Wayne isn't even the best mainstream rapper. Chamillionaire and even Jeezy are better than he is.

Okay but part of having the talent, is still having the ability to sell records. I'm not saying that they have to go Platinum, but they need to be able to find some way to make it into the eyes of the mainstream media. I'm am aware of Meth, Tech N9ne(who i'm still on the fence about, and Budden is just meh to me).

This list was made with people who have either put out an album in the past year, or are slated to put one out this year. 3k will be on the decade list. Chamilionaire is one of my favorite rappers, i bought his first CD on the first day it was released.

So much goes into how an artist "sells" records, that should never be the measure of a good MC.

It deals with so much more business then being able to rap. It's advertising, marketing, trends, price, distribution, etc.

Thats the biggest key as of right now, the trend is leaning more towards dancing and drugs than ever before, but people like Nas, Jay-Z, and Common have stood the test of time and Lupe goes gold on every single album.

Also i didn't name this thing "The Top 10 MC's" for a reason, a MC is much different from a rapper, if i was to name it that the list would be a bit different with people like Wayne, The Game, and T.I. possibly not making the list.
