I was going to watch anyway, because I've come this far, but now i'm genuinely intrigued with where it goes.

That's what I am reading into it. Can't think they could spin it any other way. Considering the history they tell us with the conversation between Matthews and Dexter, I also wouldn't be surprised if Matthews is also in on it.

Not sure if I agree it's the best Dexter episode in years, but I like where it's going. Still steamed with how the Ray Stevenson arc ended last season. He was a perfect villain (maybe that's just the Rome mark in me). I hope this arc ends better.

I said it last season in this thread...and I don't know why they just didn't have Matthews come out and say it to LaGuerta...he knows Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher...but he doesn't care...he kills scumbags.

It's the perfect fit for his character that's for sure.

As a liberal, I'm ok with a character like Dexter ... as long as he never breaks "The Code." Selective, intelligent vigilantism, I'm ok with.

I thought Deb was just as horrible as she always is and I just will never understand how Angel is the fucking boss. Dude is a terrible fucking cop.

Like every season of Dexter...the beginning shows some interesting and intriguing concepts and potential direction...but I just know, along the way, the flaws of the show come out.

The scenes with Deb were intriguing...because, sure, she's falling apart and as terrible as ever, but bitch was cognizant of actually getting her job done, which was an interesting wrinkle.

He really is the world's worst detective. Dude has no instincts. Nearly every character on the show lies to his face.

It would bother me if it were a more serious show, but it's Dexter.

Finally watched it, not bad at all. Anxious to see how this goes.

I think he has the instincts...his problem is, he's friends with everyone (they are seemingly his only friends)...so, he overlooks every shady thing they do.

It's still awful. The show is a parody of what it used to be as evidenced by the meta-humor they tried ramming into the script last night.

This show turned into a cartoon when the Trinity season ended.

Don't get it twisted...Season 4 would have been equally cartoony if Lithgow didn't give the performance of a lifetime.

No. The entire show has been off tonally since that season.

They write in "comedic" lines for Masuka and Angel that fall short 90% of the time. The scene with Angel and the black girl (who I guess is now a main character we're supposed to care about with no exposition) was cringeworthy.

The scene where Dexter cracks his sister's password was a cheap shot at being meta that you wouldn't have seen in seasons 1-4.

Jennifer Carpenter as less compelling than ever, so rather than the bit part she was confined to before she's been injected into every story line we go down now. (Everyone is a fan of the Dexter and Deb love story though, right?)

The further the show gets from the source text, the more and more the plots get thinned. Thus they have to fill time with expanded roles for bit characters who don't merit it or terrible throwaway scenes like last night's intro.
