The apprentice storylines have got to go, god damnit there's like one a season now.

I sez it once, and I'll sez it again...this show went to shit when Dexter started trying to relate to people and having meaningful relationships.

I have no idea who that interests outside of the cast and crew. People want to see Dexter kill motherfuckers and get away with it. Period. The shows works best when Dexter has a heel foil who is trying to catch him. The show has really struggled to create anything captivating after killing Doakes. They got really lucky with Lithgow who provided a strong heel foil (I will say, if it was anyone BUT Lithgow, people would be saying Season 4, too, sucked), for Dexter. But other than that...lots of shit trying to get something to stick quite like the dynamic Dexter and Doakes had. They tried briefly to get Quinn in on the action...then Deb...then LaGuerta. All big time fails.

I'm curious to know. What other dramas have gone on for more than 5 seasons and didn't have a giant cast of good characters? I was thinking about Dexter and why the show went to shit and its pretty clear it lasted way too long. It's crazy that they stretched the show this far and they legit haven't made a single good series regular in the 8 seasons except for Dexter. Has there ever been a show that went on long, that focused on one person, and still held its quality? That's my biggest problem with Dexter. I hate that it lasted too long, gets repetitive, and has had some terrible season long bads, but how do you not have a single side character worth focusing on? I hate every single one.
