Actually, newfound P.I. Debra Morgan was supposed to be tracking Andrew Briggs — their relationship was part of the job, part Deb coping with the fact that she killed LaGuerta. And it might’ve worked if we hadn’t seen this exact same story before. Here’s how lazy the writers are: Deb’s Season 8 squeeze was Andrew Briggs. Her boyfriend in Seasons 3 and 4? Anton Briggs. It could be an intentional homage, but it’s nonsense either way.

That treatment wasn't even close to the finale episode synopsis.
Good to know the story of Dexter is a character arc of a Miami Forensic Blood Spatter Analysis by day, Serial Killer of Bad People by night and his transformation to...common loggerman.
Thanks for eight years, Dexter...it was all worth it.

Honestly, it's the best finale you can hope for, given the utter crappiness of the past few seasons.
Killing Deb by season 4 would have given this series some hope.
After Rita died, Dexter should have gone back to Dexter season 1 Dexter, but Harrison kinda ruined that.
Honestly, they should have killed Deb in season 1 and kept Doakes alive a few more seasons. My Twitch video link: http://www.twitch.tv/dave374000

Watching this show back to back with Breaking Bad makes you realize how ridiculous this show is.
Its not fair to compare...but the shows have a ridiculously similar premise. Criminals hiding in plain sight. While Breaking Bad climaxes around the idea of the central characters actions having consequences...Dexter has no such consequence for seven seasons of wrong doing. Whatever Dexter did, no matter how obvious, it happened in a little bubble and no one was truly the wiser, and those that did find out, where openly accepting of Dexter and his lifestyle. Those that didn't accept were conveniently killed off and still, no one was the wiser, regardless of the proximity to other characters (seriously, both Doakes and LaGuerta accused, OPENLY, Dexter of being a murderer...both end up dead soon after and no one seems to connect the dots, even characters that were incredibly close to these characters...Batista, perhaps, who still has a box of LaGuerta's things at home...somewhere)...and the writers, by series end, do not even give fans the acknowledgment that maybe someone always knew about Dexter's shenanigans, but didn't care (Matthews would have been perfect for this in a series finale)...there is nothing...its all about Dexter's internal struggle...and the go-home segment is Dexter stealing his sister out of a hospital filled with police officers, loading her on a boat, and tossing her into the ocean, only to escape, cleanly, and end up in loggerjack country.
Just an overall silly show and when put together side by side with a show with a similar premise that gets it "right" just shines a brighter light on how bad this show was. Terrible...F. There was legitimately, no payoff to anything this show ever did. Its like TNA booked this show.Comment

Season 1 of Dexter is great TV, period.
Season 2 was entertaining...very good television...mostly because the play off one another by Dexter and Doakes. Season 2 should have been a series finale type season...a lot of elements from the season should have been used to end the series. They spent the next 6 seasons chasing pretty much all of the elements of Season 2 to re-create them again. A FOIL for Dexter inside Miami PD (LaGuerta and Quinn), Dexter's faith in "The Code" (a constant shitty storyline), Debra's issues with men (every single season), Dexter finding a woman as flawed as he is to love (realization he loves Rita, Lumen, Hannah, etc)...Dexter Season 2 is the definition of blowing their load too soon...they spent the rest of the show's existence chasing nearly every element from this season and never caught the magic.
Season 3 was the drizzling shits and no better than 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Season 4 was great TV, but there are issues that make Dexter the drizzling shits prevalent in it, however, John Lithgow is such a force you can overlook it all, because fuck it, Lithgow's character is just so amazing it makes you forget about all the awfulness that is everything around he and Dexter. Also, the final scene was powerful and was legitimately, Dexter at its peak in popularity.
Season 4 had shit like...
-More unnecessary Debra romance drama...cheating on the black guy and getting with Lundy...again.
-LaGuerta and Batista have nothing to do...lets put them together and have them get married.
-Deb finds out that Dexter and Brian Mozer were brothers and Harry knew!
Seriously...Season 4 is filled with shit...but who cares, John Lithgow as Arthur "The Trinity Killer" was so fucking good, none of it even mattered. They spent the rest of the show's existence trying to find someone capable enough to play off Dexter as well as Lithgow did as the seasonal big bad.

As for Breaking Bad...its a powerhouse. Things that happened in S1E1 still matter and are very important in S5E17. The two as quality comparisons end with the premise of each show being about a criminal hiding in plain site...after that, they couldn't be more different, mostly, in quality and execution. Breaking Bad, by very definition of its being, is better, any season, than Dexter's best. Breaking Bad is a character study where no piece was ever bigger than the whole and every piece meant something to the greater sum of the series. Dexter isn't anything like that structurally. It SHOULD have been, but it wasn't, which is the point I was trying to make in even bringing up the comparison.
Dexter being formulaic episodically with Kill of the Week type shit and seasonal Big Bads with secondary characters have poor stop and start pushes that never pay off.
Breaking Bad, unlike any other TV show has led to some larger than life payoff that may never again be replicated. Its like comparing what New Japan is doing now, to TNA. Yeah, its still wrestling, but what they are doing couldn't be more different.Last edited by LiquidLarry2GhostWF; 09-23-2013, 12:59 AM.Comment

I liked it. I'm not gonna lie, nor defend it. Its a fucking show.
Dexter got his guy, pulled the plug on his sis, and dumped her body in the ocean as unbelievable as it was he got her to his boat. All in all, at the end he is still gonna do his thang, and his son and girl are safe and sound.Comment

Batista: Dexter why were you even in the room? You don't even work here anymore.
Dexter: ...
Batista: He shot your sister, you shouldn't have been working the case anyways.
Dexter: I just wanted to make sure it was done by the book.
Batista: Oh that makes sense, this is clearly self defense so you are free to go.
That scene last night really highlighted how fucking the police force in Miami is.
Also what happened to Masuka and his daughter? The black cop? Babysitter's new job offer? I feel like there was no payoff for these important plotlines.Comment

Good call on Dexter's "interrogation". That murder investigation was 3 minutes long.
Also, Batista, the worst cop in the history of TV, is concerned about the conflict of interest of Deb's brother working the case, but has no issue with Deb's fiancee working it.Comment

what sad is i defended this show to my wife saying "it might turn the corner" but after i read the synopsis for the finale, i tapped out.
kinda stupid considering i watched every episode every week until that moment, but enough was enough and having already knew how it would end just made it all seem so pointless, much like everything after season 4.Comment
