Awesome list Dell. I'll have to get on some of these I haven't heard. I would have liked to see "Easy Skanking" a bit higher (I mean, it's only Bob f'n Marley, for chrissakes!) Also, for once I must concur with HoustonBoy, "Crumbling Erb" is an excellent song about weed, not just one of my favorite smoking songs, also one of my favorite OutKast songs period. Another good Kast song about smoking is "Ain't No Thang" (but a chicken waaaaaang)

Obviously, you had your hands full because there are 100s of songs to choose from, nearly every musician at some time or another releases a song about tokeage. Even Jay-Z praises the reefer in depth in "Feelin' It".

You've done a nice job of compiling some well known and lesser known songs. Sadly, I now know the answer to the question presented by The Mighty Diamonds, because at the moment I know just how it feels when you've got no herb. I'll have to revisit this thread when my funds get back up. For now I'll just have to hope for some weird Jimi Hendrix-like Oceanic dreams.

    Until next time.....

^That reminded me of a song by Jimi Hendrix called 1983 (A Mermaid I Could Be). It's more of a trip song than a weed song, but it's cool nonetheless. That's all the fuck JH song about - weed and acid... and bitches...

Oh, also, there's a song by Luda called "Blueberry Yum Yum." It's kinda dumb, but it is about getting high.

My two favorite weed songs I'd listened to when I used to smoke was

          Afroman - Smoke a Blunt

          Ludacris - Blueberry Yum Yum

Specifically about gentrification and how you see a liquor store on every corner in the black communnity
One of the most truthful & powerful movie scenes, ever. However, a large number of the "black" artists on this list are rastafarians. The gentrification issue, as Furious was speaking of it, deals specifically with African Americans, or more accurately people of color in poor American neighborhoods. And I would argue that weed would come in at best 4th on his list of concerns after crack, malt-liquor and guns (though it could be argued marijuana can be lumped in with crack under the umbrella of drugs, as can alcohol). That is not to dismiss your point, only to differentiate issues. For the rastas on the list, it really is a part of their spirituality. They honestly see smoking weed as something that will get them closer to Jah. You, or I, may disagree with that but it is part of their accepted doctrine. On the other hand, the rap songs are mostly speaking from the viewpoint of getting high almost as sport and wreaks of the issues Boyz N the Hood exposed.

Pass the Dutchie is an awful, awful song. Boo! Please explain yourself.

Props for Peter Tosh being #2, though.

How on earth could I forget Blueberry Yum-Yum? It's not just a tribute to weed, but an exact strand.

Used to love Pass the Dutchie as a kid but yeah, its definitely a pop tune. Nowadays, I like the original, Pass the Kutchie better. Oh well.

Or are they saying weed head? Either way, song jams.
