Leo is one of the best actors of my generation. His range is unparalleled.
You wanna talk about overrated - talk about Christian Bale. That dude is the most overrated actor of our time. Outside of American Psycho, he hasn't given a performance worth mentioning.Comment

the Machinist is good stuff, too, but overacting and overrated is reserved for CB.Comment

Seeing this tomorrow night or on Sunday afternoon. Looking forward to it, but not getting my hopes up or expecting anything Oscar-quality... There's a reason this release was pushed back to early 2010. It's probably not gonna be that great, but solid and entertaining nonetheless.
I'm expecting a solid 6-7 out of 10.Comment

The Machinist is a good movie, but don't let Christian Bale's appearance fool you into thinking he did an amazing acting job. Acting wise, his role wasn't that difficult to play, and if there's one thing Bale can play it's a very quiet serious dude with anger/mental problems.Comment

lol at saying his role was easy to do. So anyone could have been thrown into his role and the movie would be fine, no problamo. I hate when people say that. Hes not really overrated theres a reason Nolan picked him as Batman and chose to stay with him for The Pretiege. Really the only thing hes done wrong is Terminator Salvation but thats because the movie overall was complete shit.Last edited by Buzzman; 02-20-2010, 10:54 AM.Comment

Come on. I'll give you the rest but The Newsies was a fucking lame plot combined with poor acting all around. It bombed in the box office, and Bale was NOT good in it. His singing was absolutely horrendous and his Brooklyn accent he tried to put on was a total failure.Comment

LOL @ you posting his diet when I specifically said:

Originally posted by SaucemanYeah that doesn't seem very difficult to do. And it's not like he's been in some excellent movies where his performances were praised such as:
Newsies
American Psycho
Equilibrium
The Machinist
The Prestige
3:10 to Yuma
And other excellent films such as:
Batman Begins
The Dark Night
Public EnemiesLast edited by Tailback U; 02-20-2010, 03:24 PM.Comment

Esquire magazine has an interview with Leonardo DiCaprio in this month's issue that is pretty cool to read.

Originally posted by SaucemanWell yeah, obviously you wouldn't. But what's your explanation for this 'most overrated actor of all time' being in so many great films...despite him? I'd think if he was mediocre these roles would have gone to someone else. And no one here said his range parallels the likes of Di Caprio or Depp. However, is he a great actor? I certainly think so and see no proof to feel otherwise.
American Psycho was definitely great - one of my favorite films.
Batman Begins was great. Bale did a solid job here.
The Dark Knight can be considered great by some - not by me - and only because of Heath Ledger, not Bale.
Not to mention, Bale is not even close to being the best Batman ever. Those movies are great because of the story. The fact that Bale is literally hiding behind a mask and a costume for the majority of the movie proves that those movies were good despite him - definitely not because of him. Honestly, in my opinion, he was a shitty Bruce Wayne. He lacks the charisma, arrogance, and wit that Bruce Wayne should have. As Batman, who gives a fuck. He was behind a mask and grumbled all his parts. Anybody can do that.
I was exaggerating with "most overrated actor of all time." I moreso meant that Bale has no range and lacks any on screen charisma, wit, and humor. He can play one role and one role only.
Bale is very limited in what he can do. He picks and chooses his roles very carefully and it's important he does so or he will be exposed. Hell, Hugh Jackman was the star of the Prestige, and Russell Crowe of 3:10 to Yuma. Bale can only play a serious role with little to no real emotion.
How can you call an actor who lacks range a "great" actor? A great actor, in my opinion, has range and personality. Bale has none, therefore there is no way I can think of him as a great actor.
Bale probably wouldn't even make my top 10 actors, yet I hear so many people calling him a great actor and one of the best actors out there.
Lastly, nobody can prove anything. This is all preference. You have yours, I have mine. We can agree to disagree and it's all fine by me.Last edited by Tailback U; 02-20-2010, 09:56 PM.Comment

I decided to go ahead and come up with a list of actors I think are better than Christian Bale.
Brad Pitt
Tom Cruise
George Clooney
Robert Downey Jr.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Leonardo DiCaprio
Jack Nicholson
Denzel Washington
Meryl Streep
Russell Crowe
Sean Penn
William Hurt
Daniel Day Lewis
Johnny Depp
Mel Gibson
Kevin Spacey
John Malkovich
This is right off the top of my head so I'm sure I'm leaving other people out. There are others like Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis, Matt Damon, Samuel L., etc. that I think are more talented than Bale but don't grab me like the guys mentioned above do.Comment
