Sure the finale was shocking and jawdropping, but it pisses me off that they spent almost this whole season focusing on developing him as a character, while everyone else including Margaret/Nucky(well until the last 5 minutes of the finale) where pretty much stoic all season with barely any really interesting development (including Margaret's affair with the new henchman).
The only two characters who were fleshed out all season, Jimmy and Van Alden were swept under the rug. Seems like poor series direction but I guess now we'll just have to wait for next season which is basically a series reboot if what W2B says is true. So lame.

i thought nucky was gonna push jimmy away at the last second and shoot his brother but alas he did not. i think what made it more shocking was that nucky sort of went soft this season. pretty much because he had to with the trial and all but still, the ruthlessness he showed in the first season was pretty much all but gone in the second season and then boom he kills jimmy right after he helps him in getting out of his trial.
kinda bummed jimmy is gone, i thought he was a great character. solid storyline since the start of the show but i guess it was inevitable when he decided to cross nucky. very bold move since not many of the other characters have been fleshed out as much as jimmy. should be interesting to see how they move forward without one of the biggest characters on the show that they pretty much centered the whole second season around.Comment

Killing off Jimmy brings out way more emotions than killing off any other character besides maybe Nucky (Jimmy more-so still). In my opinion what writers want out of an audience is emotion or reaction to their work. It would have been less interesting or less 'emotional' if they killed off Eli and then we were like 'yeah we didn't care about his character that much anyways'.
Jimmy's storyline was probably the main reason why I watched the show but by killing off Jimmy they get to focus on a new storyline. They can build up new characters for us to become attached to.

Surprised by the audacity of the writers. But with Nucky back on the ascendancy, any other plot for Jimmy would have been completely unworthy of the character.
I'll be watching Michael Pitt closely from here on out because the performance was every bit as good as the writing.Comment

I think we all saw that coming. She's had enough problems off camera, and her character is nothing to the show.Originally posted by mgoblue2290If you want to win, put Drew in.Comment

I love this show. I mean, I really really love it and it's possibly the best stuff to ever grace a TV screen in terms of writing, acting, set design, everything.
But...
I think it probably peaked with the death of Jimmy. Nucky has gone from a Tony Soprano like quasi part hero, part villain, to 100% deplorable villain. And I just don't like the Margaret character enough to get behind her as the primary protagonist. Pardon the wrestling jargon, but this show needs Jimmy, and needed his eventual full babyface turn. Nucky worked as a tweener, i'm not so sure the show dynamic will work with him as a full blown heel.
If they wanted to knock somebody off, and have shock value, Nucky should have put the bullet in Margaret's head for signing the land over to the church.Comment
