well, to give credibility to the idea that Gretchen Black Schwartz (GB) gave Walt the book Leaves of Grass, you would have to watch Season 3 Episode 6 - Sunset
Walt and Gale have there first meeting and cook. At the end of the cook they are toasting wine and Gale tells Walt what led him to the business. He mentions "the old Walt Whitman Poem" And Walt is not familiar with it so Gale recites it and ends the scene.
The very next scene has Hank staking out Pinkmans house and Marie calls him and suggests Hank call Walt for some insider info going back to when they thought Walt was buying weed from Pinkman. Hank then calls Walt who is sitting in his chair reading Leaves of Grass.
based on the timing there is no way Gale could have given Walt that book with that note inside. They had just finished cooking and Gale wouldnt have had time to get a book and write a note like that...the note stated his other favorite WW. No way Walt could be a favorite WW to Gale that quickly. But also the time kills it too because Hank has been sitting on Jesse round the clock and this scene takes place in the early evening after Gale and Walt finished the cook earlier that day. Gale would have had to gone out and gotten the book and given it to Walt with a your my favorite note inside.....not likely at all
That book had to of come from GretchenComment

Imagine if you put this much thought into productive things in your life.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.Comment

I don't get this debate over where the book came from, who gives a shit. Walt could've got it from Gary Busey and it wouldn't change a damn thing. All that is important is that now the pieces have now clicked for Hank and once he gets a theory in his head he will follow it without a shred of evidence and with or without official support.Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your ChairComment

Gale gave him the book. Here's why:
1) As you said, the recited poem. Walt Whitman, who's work was relatively unknown to our Walt.
2) Gale was OBSESSED with Walt, from the second they met. Gale basically gave him a BJ at the end of their first shift together.
3) Gale had no friends. His life was his work, and he thought he was alone in his passions. Nobody...NOBODY who has any real friends would let them make a video like that. He finally meets someone who could be his mentor, someone he's been told about, and finds he has something he can share with his new "friend." This is why Gale is so heartbroken when Walt fires him so soon.
4) If the book were from Gretchen, he would have burned it long ago. Something that personal would remind him every day about his colossal blunder, and his ego wouldn't be able to handle that. Why would the book be signed, "...an honour to work with you"? They were engaged.Comment

This show isn't Lost. Gilligan doesn't leave obvious clues without reason.

im just saying that these things give credibility to the idea that Gale did not give him the book. And if he did, that just shows a gaping hole in the plot, which isnt uncommon for this show....buts thats a very big hole...watch the show and you will see....season 3 episode 6Comment

Keeping up with what. You overlooking a fucking TV show? Aren't you the same idiot who was scanning images of handwriting to see if it was the same? Sorry, I have much better stuff to do with my time then figure out if Gale in a TV show wrote the same notes. Clearly you do not.
And if you are going to be Rossetta, you need to add a couple faggots in there. All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

if you dont want to be apart of the discussion, then why are you reading my posts and making idiotic comments? I didnt start this conversation about who gave walt the book, i was simply adding to its validity. Why you feel the need to troll a discussion you claim you dont care about is beyond me...but then again you have already shown how simple minded you are.
so much for that you have better things to do comment you made....lol.... If you have so many better things to do then go do it.Comment

Originally posted by Vince GilliganWay back when, when Gale gave Walt the book, it is there, in that episode where Gale talks to Walt about Walt Whitman, he recites the poem, “When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer,” and the next scene we see after their first cook together is Walt reading that very book. To be honest, at the time we came up with that episode two seasons back, we were not thinking about that book playing in the very important way that it plays. But having said that, it seems to fit right in. It was always in our mind that that was a gift from Gale, so we figured why wouldn’t he have written something like that?Comment
