Arya was taken by Yoren, who is the recruiter for those being sent to the Wall...he is very intimate with the Stark's...he is the one who told Ned of Tyrion's capture by Catelyn (remember, Tyrion left the Wall with Yoren), recruited Jon Snow to the Wall, etc...he just kind of chilled out in the town recruiting for the Wall until Ned's death...he sees Arya, takes her, changes her identity and has her join his recruits to the Wall...Winterfell is on Kingsroad to the Wall.

Unless I'm misremembering it. I just remember finishing that chapter and being all, "What the hell!?" (for a number of reasons obviously).Comment

I thought that the show was even MORE clear about this, because you can recognize Yoren by sight. IIRC, in book one, Ned gets his dome lopped off from Arya's point of view, and she doesn't recognize Yoren, and it's not like the description of him is so detailed that you go: "Oh, that's Yoren from the wall!"

Downloaded this last night and just finished the season. It was as good as I had been hearing and I'm definitely hooked now. Going to look into buying the books before the next season.Comment

It's always satisfying being able to watch everything and not having to worry about spoilers in the thread. Too bad this one has book spoilers.
Khol Drogo was one of the most badass characters ever. Without spoiling anything, will another character as awesome re-enter the story?Comment

Don't read the spoiler unless you're at least 3/4 of the way through Book 3:
Robb and Cat getting betrayed by Frey and Bolton and that whole scene of he and his crew basically being systematically butchered was FUCKING GUT WRENCHING. I seriously could not think straight for a solid 10 minutes after, even though I kind of sensed that something bad was going to happen, but it still shocked me. It's murder for me too because all of my friends got into the series AFTER the show ended so most are either on book 1, or in the case of one friend he is on book 3 but in the first quarter. It's maddening. I need like a support group at this point.Comment

Lol yeah that shit was FUCKING CRAZY. But its like i said, no ones safe in this series, at all. I kinda saw that scene coming, but i didn't know it'd be as bad as THAT.Comment

Yeah, like I said, I sort of saw SOME type of betrayal coming at the hands of that douchebag Frey, but the level of it was just bananas. And definitely no one is safe. It's crazy too how things just turn on a dime with his books too. One minute there's a bedding coming, the next Cat thinks she's overreacting to someone not wanting to dance, and then boom. Crazy shit.Comment

Saluki, having read the 4 out so far, how would you rank them? I am LOVING book 3 right now. Book 2 ended awesomely, but it took some time to pick up for me. Book 1 was great as well. As of now I'd probably go 3 > 1 > 2.
Some of the reviews on Amazon of 4 are somewhat negative, but part of me feels like that might be blowback from the delay between 3 and 4. Thoughts?Comment

Book 5 is supposed to be really a book and a half, with the other half of what was supposed to go into book 4 in it according to Martin.
All that being said, for me it's prob equal across the board.Comment

3 and 1 are equal to me. While 3 was better, 1 introduced us to the whole world. I'm always partial to the first book in any series. 2 is solid and 4 starts off slow but it picks up and ends up being alright. Book 5 had better blow 2 and 4 out of the water.Comment
