I spent like 3 hours in the SOIAF wiki the other day, and as if I didn't already know this after reading all 5 books but...this shit is DENSE. There are VERY detailed pages on the history of characters that are only mentioned briefly at times. It's insane.
It's too much for even GRRM to keep track with at times. Apparently he has a 50 or so page document with character notes and backstory, but even with that he still gets minor details wrong sometimes. He says he's been corrected by fans over changing a minor character's eye-color and shit like that.

I read book 1 after watching season 1 and agree that it helped me understand the show better by giving me more details on the characters. In the middle of book 2 now and I'm sure I'll finish books 3 and 4 by the time next season starts.

I haven't read the books. I am only critiquing as a TV show. I can't compare the two. And, yeah, I thought they were zombies or something.

That's still no excuse since this is the third appearance in the series. The very first scene in the pilot was an Other (or White Walker), then in the middle of the first season a wight (zombie) came and attacked the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, only to be saved by Jon Snow. You have no basis to critique a show that you can't even keep up with.

i didnt think the finale was nearly as good as the episode prior to it with the huge battle in kings landing. it was a good finale but didnt knock my socks off like i expected it would. i agree with mgoblue that everything just felt rushed to get all the storylines to close the season with a nice little bow on them.

It's easy to just join the gang and pile on. I doubt I'm the only GOT fan who thought season 2 was a disappointment. But, again, I am speaking as a GOT fan who has only watched the TV show.

Reading some of the reactions in the newb thread on AV Club are hilarious. Some are complaining that we didn't get enough major character deaths, saying we *only* got

                      Renly
                      and

                      Maester Luwin
                      .

These corncobs didn't even mention Doreah. I'm sho gonna miss her. :sammysosadatass:

That is what I felt as well. After a huge battle (the "oh fuck me" line hand me loling) I felt the finale was more of just a lot of set up stuff. Kahlessi didn't even show up till like halfway through the thing and she was a major storyline. The ending with the white walkers was cool and all, but I think it just missed that "OH HELLZ NAH!" ending I kind of expected after the show before.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

                        "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

Obviously episode 9 was the climax.

You are barely paying attention and then making some half assed remark about zombies. That's the problem. As someone else mentioned, the white walkers have been mentioned many times and shown in 2 other episodes, 1 of which was the fucking premier episode.

Most HBO shows climax on the next to last episode. The last episode on most HBO shows is for clean up and lead in for next season. Showtime shows do this too.
